This document provides an overview of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). It discusses the operational principles of DSCs through electron transfer processes and energetics. It also reviews the development of key materials used in DSCs, including nanostructured metal oxide electrodes, sensitizing dyes, electrolytes, and counter electrodes. Additional sections cover characterization techniques, module development, and provide a future outlook for DSC research and commercialization. DSCs offer promising efficiencies of up to 12% for small cells and about 9% for minimodules, with potential for low-cost production methods. However, further improving performance and stability remains an active area of research.
