The document discusses efforts by companies like Accenture, Marks and Spencer, and others to address youth unemployment in the UK. It describes Accenture's Skills to Succeed Academy, which provides online training to develop employability skills for young people. Marks and Spencer outlines its three-part approach including a program with The Prince's Trust giving young people work placements and engaging suppliers. It also discusses the Movement to Work initiative where companies pledge to provide 4-6 week training placements for unemployed youth equivalent to 2% of their workforce and engage suppliers to multiply the impact. The goal is to create 100,000 placements for unemployed youth by June 2015 to help develop skills and lead to jobs.

MOVING BEYOND EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT: THE EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE INDEXHuman Capital Media
Employee engagement is often viewed as the proxy for employee well-being. The line of thinking is that if engagement is good, that means employees are good, resulting in better business outcomes for employers. But is employee engagement the best construct that employers should use to positively impact productivity and performance?
New research suggests while engagement is important, it’s only one piece of the broader picture — the entire employee experience. In reality, people want to work for a company that allows them to bring their full selves to grow and thrive. Creating this kind of workplace goes beyond just ensuring that employees are engaged — discovering the ingredients that create the most positive employee experience, then creating the conditions to cultivate them. When companies enhance the employee experience, business benefits directly.

From UI to UX: Building Ethnographic Praxis in a Usability Engineering CultureSalesforce Engineering
Talk given by Rebecca Buck, Lead UX Researcher at Salesforce, at Praxis Conference 2015 in October.
In this never before shared case study, we explain how our UX research team increased its scope of work from surface-level UI issues to a full portfolio of user-centered research. We use organizational ethnography and organizational change literature to develop a three phase model of research team growth. We then discuss the implications of our model for strengthening ethnographic praxis in cultures dominated by usability engineering. We conclude with a reflection on building internal bridges to facilitate change. Keywords: organizational change, UI, UX, research, ethnography, usability, lean.

Talk given by Jonathan Brossard, Principal Product Security Engineer at Salesforce, at Defcon on August 2016
With this presentation, we take a new approach to reverse engineering. Instead of attempting to decompile code, we seek to undo the work of the linker and produce relocatable files, the typical output of a compiler. The main benefit of the later technique over the former being that it does work. Once achieved universal code "reuse" by relinking those relocatable objects as arbitrary shared libraries, we'll create a form of binary reflection, add scripting capabilities and in memory debugging using a JIT compiler, to attain automated API prototyping and annotation, which, we will argue, constitutes a primary form of binary code self-awareness. Finally, we'll see how abusing the dynamic linker internals shall elegantly solve a number of complex tasks for us, such as calling a given function within a binary without having to craft a valid input to reach it. The applications in terms of vulnerability exploitation, functional testing, static analysis validation and more generally computer wizardry being tremendous, we'll have fun demoing some new exploits in real life applications, and commit public program profanity, such as turning PEs into ELFs, functional scripting of sshd in memory, stealing crypto routines without even disassembling them, among other things that were never supposed to work. All the above techniques have been implemented into the Witchcraft Compiler Collection, to be released as proper open source software (MIT/BSD-2 licenses) exclusively at DEF CON 24.
Apprenticeships are an effective means of employers developing their own talent. They also offer a viable alternative to university for people looking for a direct and affordable route to skilled jobs and careers. However, many employers have yet to recognise the full benefits of apprenticeships, even though their value extends to most sectors and occupations.
The CIPD’s new guide on apprenticeships gives practical advice on how employers can tailor high-quality apprenticeship programmes that meet their current and future skills needs.

150723 inspiring next generation career successv6ME+
Businesses are spending heavily on recruiting and developing young talent through direct entry graduate schemes and other early careers programmes, yet 25% of companies have unfilled positions due to graduates having a lack of employable skills.
Whilst the transformation in Further Education funding has increased the focus of universities on employability, this is failing to engage a large number of students and provide the personalised support in their moment of need. Many young people are feeling overwhelmed as they take their first steps on their career resulting in high numbers of employees being disengaged and uninspired in their work.
So, who's doing anything about it?
There's a gaping divide in who owns the problem, with employees looking for their employers to take the lead and provide visibility of their future careers options and businesses looking for individuals to take control.
ME+® fills the gap, putting people in control of their own careers and guiding them to achieve their ambitions.

Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

youth unemployment are
x4 greater
in the last decade
53% of NEETS
unemployed for more than a
year feel they have been
permanently left
behind
in life due to unemployment
Over the next decade
youth unemployment
could cost the UK an
estimated
£28 Billion*
Young NEETS
are more than x2 as likely
to feel unable to cope

There are three elements to the plan:
1. Delivering Make Your Mark in M&S - Launched in May
2013, Make Your Mark is a programme run with The
Prince’s Trust which has given 1440 young people
(NEETs) a 4 week work placement in an M&S store, with
a 50% into work target for those young people.
2. Engaging our Suppliers- working with a core group of
suppliers across to open up more opportunities for young
people and to test the ‘accelerator model’. Currently have
88 suppliers across Foods, Property & Construction,
Logistics, IT, GM, .Com, will reach c100.
3. Working with other UK Businesses - Movement to
Work
A coalition of businesses committed to building their
programmes and work with their suppliers: Unilever, BT,
Accenture, Tesco, Barclays, Centrica, GSK, National Grid,
HSBC, Kingfisher, BAE Systems, WPP, Civil Service.

M&S Approach to Addressing Youth Employment
14. 14Department for Work & Pensions
Movement to Work will create 100,000 vocational
training and work experience placements for
young people, aged 18-24, who are not in
education, employment or training (NEET) by
June 2015.
Efforts will be focused on those NEETs who have
been out of education, employment or training
for some time.
The placements will be designed to deliver a wide
range of positive outcomes including developing
new work skills and experience, gaining self-
confidence and motivation, or entering or re-
entering education or training.
In addition, placements will, where possible, be
linked to jobs or apprenticeships in order to
meet the Movement’s aspiration to collectively
support 50% of young people trained to
progress to fixed term or permanent employment.
Employer pledge
To provide 4-6 week
employability training
placements for NEETs aged
18-24 equivalent to up to 2% of
the company's UK workforce.
To link placements, where
possible, to fixed term and
permanent jobs or
apprenticeships.
To engage own supply and
client base in the programme,
asking them to make the same
commitment, in order to create
a nationwide multiplier effect.
