This document provides an evaluation of a DVD digipack design. The front cover features an image of the artist with an edge detection effect on a black background, representing the rock genre. Images of the artist were chosen to portray him as serious and mysterious. The pictures behind the discs show the artist standing in a corridor with light behind him, making him appear powerful through the lighting and composition. The simple black and white design carries through to the booklet interior.

This is my DVD Digipack, For the front cover I used an Image with an edge detect on making the back ground black, I found this image effective, and dynamic, I had identified edited pictures as a convention of special edition digipacks and wanted mine to look stylised and more obviously a special edition. I represented the genre by showing the electric guitar on the front cover. The genre is also mentioned on the back. I designed the logo around guitars representing the fact the Nick plays many acoustic songs as well using a distorted font that represented the rock genre.The images I used had Cam looking serious, and not directly at the camera. This would appeal to the target audience as they would take music seriously and would not consider a artist smiling at the camera as appropriate. I used black in the background and had Cam wear a black jacket as this represents him as dark and mysterious, conventions of the Rock genre. These pictures would serve to get the Artists image out there, compensating for the lack of an unedited cover photo, also being more effective than one as in this layout the images of Cam’s face are not blocked by textThe pictures behind the discs of Cam standing at the end of a corridor with the light behind him I think work well. With a disc in place all the light would be covered and the image would be hidden. The light being behind Cam makes and the low angle of the shot represents him as powerful, a convention of the genre, him being the highlighted by the light around him, and also centred by being at the top of a couple of steps in the corridor and the photo being slightly blurred amplifies this image of power well. The rectangle made by the walls and ceilings also frames the panel and therefore the disc well. I left the ox in the background as I felt it added a little more to the picture than just a barren corridor and also adds mystery to the photograph helping to connote Cam as more powerful.

3. This is my Digipack booklet, I choose to use the same picture as the front cover for the front of the booklet, this is a convention of CD’s. Many in jewel cases just had the front of the booklet under clear plastic as the cover. I continued the simple black and white design on the back including information about the record label, the logo and a small black and white image of the front cover without the edge detect effect. I felt this simple design worked for the booklet.On the inside I divided it simply a disc on each page with thanks and some small photos at the end, I made sure it clearly stated the content, using the CD and DVD logos to emphasise the mix of content. I used a similar edge detect effect on the photos to keep with the style of the rest of my digipack.
