The document assesses the storm surge modeling capabilities of D-Flow Flexible Mesh (FM) software using exact analytical benchmarks. It presents two benchmarks: 1) a sudden uniform steady wind case and 2) a travelling wind pulse case. For each benchmark, it shows the analytical solution profiles and compares them to D-Flow FM results for water level and velocity at various locations over time. Minor errors are observed between the model and exact solutions, which are examined in detail. The analysis helps establish how far the shallow water equations and D-Flow FM implementation can accurately model storm surge dynamics.

Construction of Maasvlakte 2 began in 2009 and involved extracting 300 million cubic meters of sand from a borrow area 10 km offshore using a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger. An environmental impact assessment was conducted and identified potential effects from increased turbidity caused by sand extraction such as reduced primary production, less growth of marine life, and insufficient food for protected bird species. Monitoring of silt concentrations was required every two weeks during construction at three cross sections, but a new "Model Supported Modelling of Suspended Matter" approach using remote sensing data and validation with in-situ measurements was proposed to the authorities and produced silt atlases from 2003-2011.

Hydrodynamic Modeling of the Physical Dispersion of Radium-Enriched Barite Ai...Donald Carpenter
This document discusses the formation and transport of radium-enriched barite from oil and gas operations. Barite forms as a byproduct and can incorporate radium, becoming a naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM). Millions of barrels of NORM-impacted barite are generated each year. Surface gamma scans can detect radium contamination, but may be complicated over water or with obstructions. Hydrodynamic and particle tracking models can predict how barite will disperse based on its high density and other properties compared to other materials like quartz. Geomorphic assessments that consider landscape features can identify optimal locations to sample for barite accumulation and radium levels in a more efficient manner than random scanning.
This document discusses offshore wind technology and provides an overview of the current state of offshore wind. Some key points:
- Offshore wind turbines are now up to 3.6 MW and have designs optimized for offshore conditions like installation via cranes and helicopter access.
- The cost of offshore wind energy has fallen significantly from 40 cents/kWh in the early 1980s to estimates of 3-6 cents/kWh currently and projections of 5 cents/kWh by 2014 due to larger turbines, reliability improvements, and infrastructure upgrades.
- The U.S. has good offshore wind resources and developing offshore wind could help address the need to locate wind farms closer to coastal population centers where transmission and grid connections are

The Daral Khwar site in Bahrain, Swat was selected for further analysis and preliminary design. Hydraulic designs were developed indicating the site could generate up to 1131 kW of power. Detailed geological studies including core sampling and seismic surveys found the rock quality at the site varies from poor to good. An economic analysis estimated the proposed plant could generate a net annual profit of around 719,000 Pakistani rupees.
This document summarizes a study assessing future water availability in the Hunza River basin in northern Pakistan using the SWAT hydrological model. The study analyzed historical climate and river flow data, calibrated and validated the SWAT model, and used statistically downscaled climate projections to model future flows. The results show a historical decreasing trend in Hunza River flows of 39% from 1966-2004. Modeling of future flows from 2010-2099 based on downscaled HadCM3 projections shows a continued decreasing trend in flows from 2010-2040 of around 63%, but stabilization thereafter with no significant changes from 2040-2099 despite higher projected temperatures and precipitation. This indicates increased evapotranspiration early on but a positive glacier
This study analyzed nutrient removal from agricultural ditches using low-grade weirs over a 4-year period from 2017-2020. Flow discharge, nitrate concentration, and nitrate load were measured in a control ditch and treatment ditch with weirs. Time series and frequency domain analyses identified dominant periodicities from monthly to yearly. The treatment significantly reduced flow discharge by 57% and nitrate load by 61% compared to the control. While flow periodicities were similar between ditches, nitrate concentrations were influenced more by biological and chemical processes in the treatment ditch. This research helps understand nutrient management in agricultural drainage systems.

Peru evaluationhydropowerpotential finalupdateEduardo Zolezzi
This document summarizes the evaluation of hydropower potential in Peru conducted by Eduardo Zolezzi David Menéndez Arán from the World Bank and Halcrow consultants. It provides an overview of the history of hydropower evaluations in Peru since the 1970s and describes the data and modeling used in the current 2011 study. This included digital terrain data, weather/precipitation/temperature records, stream flow data, and hydrological modeling. The study estimated Peru's theoretical hydropower potential at 270,371 MW and technical potential at 114,816 MW. It also identified the best 100 potential small and mid-sized hydropower plant sites between 1-100 MW based on economic, environmental, and other criteria. Maps
The document provides details on the field development plan for the Gelama Merah field. It includes sections on geology and geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, production technology, facilities engineering, economics, and health, safety and environment. The field contains gas and oil reserves across multiple zones from U3.2 to U9.2. Based on analysis, the estimated STOOIP is 215 MMSTB and the GIIP is 71.4 BSCF. The optimal development plan is to drill 8 production wells and 3 water injection wells to achieve a recovery factor of around 25% over the field's lifetime.
Sentinel-3 Future Products Overview - EUMETCast User Forum 2014EUMETSAT
The document discusses future satellite services from the Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission. Sentinel-3 will carry several instruments to measure sea and land surface temperature, sea surface topography, ocean and land color, and more. It will generate various data products at different processing levels with different spatial resolutions, swath widths, and timeliness from near-real time to non-time critical. The products will be disseminated through EUMETCast and an online archive and will be made gradually available to Copernicus services and scientific users during the commissioning and ramp-up phase after the launch of Sentinel-3A.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT ON DAL LAKE SRINAGAR KASHMIRIRJET Journal
This document summarizes an environmental impact assessment of conservation measures taken to restore Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. The lake is becoming increasingly polluted due to human activities. Conservation efforts have included catchment treatment, silt and sediment control, wastewater management, controlling weed infestation, improving hydrology, combating algal blooms, and solid waste management. Engineering works in over 9,700 hectares of the lake's basin and planting of over 600,000 saplings have helped reduce silt and waste. Removal of excess water and improvements to water channels and dams have also helped increase water flow and regain over 1.5 square kilometers of the lake.
