2. Relevant trends
• Share of water-related renewable energy (like Aquifer Thermal
Energy Storage, tidal energy etc.) will continue to increase in the
future energy mix.
• Critical infrastructures in urban areas deteriorate at an unknown
pace.
• Risk based design, operation and management demands for a
fundamental understanding of failure mechanisms.
• Operation of water & energy related infrastructure becomes more
complicates (smarter) posing new design challenges
10 november 2015
3. Goals 2018
• To improve performance, safety and robustness of Water & Energy
Infrastructures
• Design
• Providing tools for a proper choice of design tools (scale test,
numerical models, field measurements, expert rules).
• Research into failure mechanisms provides a basis for risk-
based design and asset management.
• Operation & Maintenance
• Smart operation of water and energy infrastructures become
“Powered by Deltares”.
• Methods and tools are developed for assessing ageing
processes.
• Engineers around the world use Deltares tools and are trained at
Deltares academy.
