A planet-wide crisis - tackling climate change effects - requires a planet-wide solution.

As a principal partner of the 2021 United
Nations Climate Change Conference
(COP26), the Hitachi Group recognizes
the need to act and has committed to
collaborating with organizations to help
them become climate change
innovators.
Along with its partners in this global effort,
Hitachi is focussing on three areas:
• Mobility and Transportation
• The Power Grid
• A ‘Basket of Green Solutions’
However, all three identified areas require
wider cooperation to spur greater change.

Mobility & Transportation
This carbon-intensive sector represents one of the greatest opportunities for innovation in
sustainability and is one of the lowest-hanging fruits for tackling change.

Smart & Sustainable Rail Systems
Rail emits only 0.06 tons of carbon dioxide
per passenger kilometre1 compared to
planes (0.08 tons) and cars (0.12 tons).
In the U.S., the first step is to revamp rail so
it has a competitive chance against carbon
heavy modes of transport.
Hitachi Rail is investing in innovative green
technologies from Hyperloop to hydrogen
to bio fuels and batteries — to transform
the railways to net zero.
Shifting public transportation from cars or planes to trains is proving to be a
more efficient and affordable option and the fastest route to decarbonization.
Hitachi Rail offers fully integrated rail solutions across rolling stock, signalling,
operation, service & maintenance, digital technology and turnkey solutions.

Electric Vehicles
Hitachi’s mobility and transportation
efforts support the massive growth
potential for the electric vehicle (EV)
industry.
Hitachi is collaborating with industry
and government partners to make
EVs more alluring to operators and
is working toward explaining the
benefits of EV operation in terms of
total cost of ownership (TCO).
This includes bringing forth EVs as a
service and creating programs to
ease the transition and make the
idea of, and business case for, an EV
fleet more compelling.

To meet these rapidly evolving needs of the energy sector, Hitachi is leveraging its
portfolio of power grid products, solutions, software and services to support the
United States' commitment to transitioning to low-carbon energy by 2035.

Hitachi’s key decarbonization
efforts includes integrating
renewables and transmitting
and distributing clean energy.
To enable this, Hitachi Energy
has developed flexible, secure
high-voltage direct current
(HVDC) transmission systems
that can deliver more power
over greater distances while
reducing losses.

The Power Grid
Hitachi Energy’s Grid-
eMotion Fleet uses direct
current (DC) technology and
can connect to any type of
power network — removing
the complexities of
integrating AC/DC chargers
into a system.
It brings a 60 percent
reduction2 in space required
for large-scale EV fleet
charging.

A ‘Basket of Green Solutions’ - Decarbonization
 Decarbonised Buildings, Factories,
Cities, and Data Centers
 Hitachi has identified several new
models already emerging, such as
those around energy trading,
recycling and waste management.
 Hitachi big data and analytics
solutions help manufacturers ensure
that their assets are always available
and that they are consuming the
minimal amount of energy needed.
