Security Features Of A Firewall
The first requirement is that the company must install and maintain a firewall that is properly
configured to protect cardholders data. All computer systems shall be protected from unauthorized
access by untrusted networks. A firewall shall be always be used when entering the system from the
Internet as e commerce, employee Internet access through a desktop browser, employee email access,
a dedicated connection such as business to business connections, via wireless networks, or other
sources. There needs to be a recognized process that approves and tests all network connections and

Administrators should remove default passwords and disable unnecessary default accounts and non
essential functionality before the devices are installed on the network. An inventory of system
components that are a part of the cycle for PCI DSS must be maintained.
Requirement number three is to protect stored cardholder data using encryption, truncation, masking
and hashing as part of the cardholder data protection. If a hacker manages to bypass the security
protection and get access to the encrypted data, the information is unreadable and useless without the
correct cryptographic key. Only the minimal amount of cardholder data should be stored whenever
possible. There should also be policies for data retention and disposal procedures of cardholder data
storage. Only store the minimal data needed, do not store the entire track of contents of magnetic
strips, card verification code, or PIN number. PAN numbers must be rendered unreadable anywhere
they are stored. Cryptographic keys should be stored in as few locations as possible and under secure
encrypted devices.
The fourth requirement states that the entities must encrypt transmission of cardholder data when done
across open or public networks. It is required that entities use strong cryptography and security
protocols to maintain security of cardholder data during transmission. You should never send PAN
information by email, instant messaging, chat, or other messaging technology.

Indigenous People In Canada
Introduction It is very difficult to define indigenous people. No philosopher has invented a holistic
definition of these people of the world. However, they are those people too impoverished in all
societies worldwide, reorganized by their respective societies as indigenous natives, are identified with
the pre and post colonial continuity, having links with historical kingdoms and live around natural
resources with a peculiar political, economic and social set up. Over seventy nations of this world
habit indigenous people estimated to be 370 millions. What is so important is that they a rich in
cultural archeology, linguistically exorbitant with diverse religions, storytelling, art and traditions. In

Mental health or disorders Mental and health disorders also give a measure of hospital management
for the mentally indigenous people. Statistics show that for the period 2005 2006, health officials
registered a high number of mentally sick patients of this kind in Australia. (Australian institute of
Health and welfare and australian Bureau of statistics, 2008, p. P.111). Majority of them had
psychoactive problems at 5:3 ratios for both male and female respectively, some of which were self
induced. In Canada, the situation is caused by induced and self imposed racial discrimination. For all
these reasons, the United Nations argued countries to avoid racial discrimination by promoting
equality in the provision of health services and affirmative action in indigenous communities. (United
Nations Development Program (UNDP) , 2000, P.10). Life expectancy In Australia, the life
expectancy at birth for the males had reduced and health authorities expressed the desire to improve it.
Based on statistics for 2005 2007, males expectancy was 67.2 years showing a drop by 11.5 years for
non indigenous people. For females, the standing is 72.9 years below non indigenous people by 9.7
years. From 1996 2001, the male to female ratio was at59.4:64.8 years. This meant that the Australian

Kristeva s Powers Of Horror Essay
Bell Hook s Marginality as a Site of Resistance, is an engaging and powerful comment on the
solicitude for all those colonised on the perimeter of society. That one must embrace this position and
identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing solely
to the identity of the oppressed be it race, gender or class, stifles one individualism and creativity. This
space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space where we recover
ourselves. (Hooks, 1990, p.343) To instead use this site of marginality as a vantage point to gain a
formative viewpoint and destabilise the deep structures of power and cultural domination. Julia

Kristeva is attempting to explore the different ways in which abjection works within human societies
as means of separating out the human and non human. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on Kristeva s
theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border, the mother
child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of woman as
abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The representation of
women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in Powers of Horror will
also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s abject through Barbara
Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of the monstrous feminine,
of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives an interesting insight to
Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. By looking at the construction of
female monsters and what it is about them that is monstrous, in particular the archaic mother, the
monstrous womb and the castrating mother as archetypes of the abject

Descriptive Essay On The Road
It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We are
about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping
because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear
the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as
we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I
smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid
the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of
Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun
behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in
fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to
the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down
the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I
am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to
fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting
of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel
did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and
head straight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with.
Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what
felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear.
Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading towards
the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. Colorado
was colder than the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the mountains and ziplining.

Essay on Revolutionary Causes
A number of issues raised tensions between the colonies and Great Britain. The already tense
atmosphere was pushed even further with a number of taxes, acts and proclamations passed by Britain.
These numerous acts usually dealt with taxes and other issues that came into conflict with the
independent nature of the American colonists. No one issue was solely responsible for the eventual
American Revolution. Though all of these added together raised the resentment to a boiling point and
all contributed to the revolution. The harsh frontier life led to the independent and often stubborn
nature of the American Colonists. This development of this unique colonial personality conflicted
drastically with the norms of the British Empire. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their fear led to more racial violence against the Native population. This conflict lasted from 1763
until a truce was at last finalized in 1766.
Britain instituted the Proclamation of 1763 in response to the Native American threat and the racial
tensions that permeated the colonial frontier. This proclamation attempted to appease and reassure the
natives who feared colonial expansion. The Proclamation of 1763 formed four additional colonies and
closed the frontier to further expansion. The colonies formed were Quebec, East and West Florida and
Grenada. The frontier was closed to settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. An Indian reserve
was set aside west of the Appalachian Mountains and the natives were placed under protection of the
king. This act required settlers in the banned area to abandon their farms and land. British troops were
sent to enforce the Proclamation, as the crown had no faith that the colonist would obey. The colonists
were enraged by the Proclamation. The colonists had supported the French Indian War fully expecting
to receive more frontier land as the prize of war. The Proclamation seemed to steal the valuable land
from them, as the colonists saw the situation. Most colonists had no respect for the native tribes and
did not believe that the native tribes had any claim to the land and resented Britain handing over
valuable land to the natives. The colonists also

The Power Of Innovation By Don Tapscott
The Power of Innovation The world has changed over the last ten years, technology has created a new
world, where we have become more dependent on it. In his article, The Eight Net Gen Norms , Don
Tapscott, discusses what he believes the net generation is and how they are defined by eight norms:
Freedom, customization, scrutiny, integrity, collaboration, entertainment, speed, and innovation. (132)
Tapscott makes some very unique observations, but there was one norm, I felt was more important,
innovation. There are many reasons why, but the one main reason is the creation of new ideas. Without
the innovated ideas, we wouldn t have the advanced technology we possess today. Think about the
world without cell phones, no web, or no medical tools? We know for a fact this era couldn t survive
without them. The workplace is starting to turn from the traditional way by allowing the employees to
be heard, but there is still a gap between generations. The power of innovation helps people with
everyday life, changing the way jobs are running, but also has created a rift between the old and new
generations. Let s face it, life is so much better with the technology we possess now. In a matter of
seconds, I can get information about the Roman Empire, just with one click of my phone, or start my
car without my key or me being in it. I reckon this is where the old generation can complain that we
are lethargic and can t do nothing for ourselves. The world has outgrown the old ways and the

Democracy And Violent Civil Conflict
Democracy and violent civil conflict
Democracy is believed to have a pacifying power. With electoral processes, the rule of law and
freedom from state oppression it makes sense that the populations has enough avenues to express
grievances without resorting to full scale civil violence. Democracy beyond mutual democratic
pacifism would thus have an impact on internal civil relations positively but this is not the case. There
have been an increased number of cases of civil and ethnic violence in government systems that we
might consider to be in stages of democratization. Evidence would seem to suggest that there are
greater levels of violent civil conflict in these sort of regimes as opposed to full blown dictatorships or
democracies. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hypothesis.
There are two major hypothesis in this paper
i. Pseudo democracies have greater levels of civil violence than do democracies ii. Pseudo
democracies have greater levels of civil violence than autocracies.
Theory
I argue that this could be as a result of a number of reasons, while an autocratic government might be
able to use force to keep the population under tight control, a weak democracy with its relative
political and civil freedoms is likely to bring strife as soon as institutions are not functional and
transparent enough. Ethnic groups, religious groups or party faithful soon take to violence when the
institutions in place is not trusted either due to incapacity or lack of transparency and since the citizens
now have a voice and might not be exposed to the dangers of brutal crackdowns they soon are
exposed to strife that soon become violent. This might be due to introduction of unpopular or
controversial laws, dissatisfaction with government performance or suspicion of government s actions.
Competitive elections presents a whole new avenue for disagreement and where the representatives
are disconnected from the electorate, they turn to violent conflict as a route to voice grievances with
less fear of extreme crackdown by the government. The problem is that most often what would start as
a peaceful demonstration explodes into an all out riot with

The Impact Of Martin Luther Spread Of Protestantism
Luther s spread of Protestantism primarily brought disunity to not only the Holy Roman Empire, but
also to England. The Catholic Church had recently just built the St. Peter s Cathedral and started to
sell indulgences to make more money off of the people. Martin Luther, a monk, was against the
Catholic Church and their teachings and indulgences were the last straw. He believed that all a person
needs to reach heaven is faith. Luther set out preaching his words opposing and questioning the church
and their faulty beliefs. People listened and followed him full of trust and faith. However, this caused
the Reformation and the beginning of a new religion. The spread of Protestantism among Europe
brought impactful periods of disunity within the Holy Roman Empire and England, yet unlike the
Holy Roman Empire, England was unified in the end. The entire reformation brought more disunity
than unity from the beginning in the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) after Martin Luther s
Reformation. It started with Luther s Ninety Five Theses in 1517, which was sparked by the Catholic
church selling indulgences and spreading false ideas. Within his theses, he called out the church for
their wrong teachings and corrupt clergy. His words, actions, and opinions inspired people and gave
them a new hope, faith, and religion. He caused a divide within the Holy Roman Empire and was the
main source of protestantism. Martin Luther provoked even more division when he said, A Christian

Research Paper On Kierkegaard
tatement of thesis: Kierkegaard emphasizes that Christian love is the only real love. Kierkegaard also
says that erotic love and friendship are just temporal love that one experiences.
Method: Kierkegaard s emphasis on the approach that God is love to an individual. The arguments
that Kierkegaard s builds are to understand the function and nature of love in the human existence.
Frame of Work: There is not doubt that Kierkegaard attempts to call attention to the statement that by
loving some people more than others, or by loving God instead of others, or even by loving others
instead of God, or by loving others by external meaning only, or with internal this causes to indulge in
self love. This helps to justify to us how know true love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian love mainly aims a change of relation in the heart in a more internal level before God in a
more conscience manner. Throughout this section it points out that Christianity does not go out its way
to change external but instead change internal where the conscience comes to play. Kierkegaard makes
it clear that love is matter of conscience in which Christianity focuses on more on the internal side
more when it comes down to making any changes. Through your conscience one can make the
decision to love the person they want in the true love way, which is before God. God and Christianity
is a big part of someone because love is developed or even expressed in that person conscience where
they have learned how to truly love. Kierkegaard emphasizes on the conscience in order to be able to
understand the concept of love in a deeper level. Through this God holds the individuals responsible
for their own conscience. There is still no doubt that other will oppose of the command that Love is a
matter of Conscience , but it will still be tested and tried until it gets accepted or once again opposed.
Overall, this section has explained that since love actually is the matter of the conscience, other type
of love must remain lower than the love a Christian learned to have. Kierkegaard stated, Love is a
matter of conscience and must therefore be from a pure heart and sincere faith (147). With this to end
it simply explains that a pure heart which is consider to be good and is able to love others after they
have loved God then one with a strong faith in Christianity is able to understand that love is part of the
conscience. This allows the person to grasp to what love is really is and how to love in a way that is
non selfish but to be more

The Establishment Of A Free Market Economy
The establishment of a free market economy with the creation of joint stock companies in the modern
day Netherlands during the 1500 1600s spelt the beginning of capitalism, an economic system which
has, since this period, brought untold prosperity to billions throughout the world. Its proliferation
throughout Europe is one of the primary reasons why in the centuries thereafter it became the sole
hegemon on the world stage, with its greatest embracer, Great Britain, holding sway over a fourth of
the globe by the mid nineteenth century. Since these European centuries, liberal economic thought has
spread throughout the world, with vibrant, flourishing economies sprouting in places from Singapore
to Japan to even China, with its tentative economic liberalization being the direct result in hundreds of
millions being lifted out of poverty. With such a good track record, one would be surprised that the
bulk of the intelligentsia of this country is opposed to the continuation of a liberal, free market system.
Indeed, in their papers on higher education in America, Mark Edmundson and William Deresiewicz
indict the capitalist system as the bane of higher education, accusing the profiteering of private
institutions as the primary reason why students are receiving a sub par education. Using terms such as
consumerism and neoliberalism pejoratively, they posit that each system has had an adverse affect on
higher education, and present differing solutions to put an end to the problems

Color In The Wizard Of Oz

Similarities Between Anslinger And Hearst
Mexican Americans. One of the differences seized upon during this time was the fact that many
Mexicans smoked marijuana and had brought the plant with them, and it was through this that
California apparently passed the first state marijuana law, outlawing preparations of hemp, or loco
weed (Guither, 2013) Harry J. Anslinger and William Randolf Hearst greatly aided the widespread
criminalization of marijuana. Anslinger saw the opportunity for success that the Bureau of Narcotics

soon realized that opiates wouldn t be enough to help build his success in the Bureau of Narcotics, so

Results: The results indicated that all three agents provided significant shade lightening about baseline

products. Using Whitestrips is probably the most convenient way to whiten teeth at home.
SIDE EFFECTS:
The most common side effect associated with tooth bleaching is the sensitivity, which tends to resolve
once the bleaching process is stopped.
Hypersensitivity: increased sensitivity to stimuli often occurs during early stages of the bleaching
treatment. The use of desensitizing toothpaste may alleviate discomfort. Agents like Potassium nitrate
and sodium fluoride reduce tooth sensitivity following bleaching.
Irritation of mucous membranes: Tissue irritation as a result of an ill fitted custom tray rather than the
tooth bleaching agent.
Over bleaching: Too much bleaching will cause the teeth to appear very translucent.
Bleachorexia: bleaching is abused, and an individual develops an unhealthy obsession with whitening.
This condition is similar to body dysmorphic disorder. It is recommended to set a target shade before
starting bleaching treatment to help with this

Violating Its Investment Treaty Obligations
In order to satisfy the necessity requirements, the responding government must demonstrate that
violating its investment treaty obligations is the only way for the State to safeguard an essential
interest against a grave and imminent peril. Moreover, the breach must not seriously impair an
essential interest of the State towards which the obligations exists . In LG E, the tribunal determined
that economic, financial or those interests related to the protection of the State against any danger
seriously compromising its internal or external situation, are also considered essential interests. The
tribunal in Enron, on the other hand, acknowledged the severity of the crisis but held that it had not
compromised the existence of the State.
The next requirement of necessity as a defence is the only means standard. That is, if other measures
could lead to the same result, even if they would be more difficult or expensive, those alternative
measures should be pursued. In CMS, EDF, Suez and Sempra, the tribunals found that human rights
were relevant but the necessity defence was because it failed the only means requirement because the
government had other options available. This stringent and literal view of only means would seem to
preclude the use of the defence as there is almost always an alternative.
There have been tribunals that have taken a more liberal interpretation of the requirements. The first
time an investment tribunal accepted a necessity as a

Ancient Greek Food
Ancient Greek Food Imagine yourself in a room with one of best cooks in all of Ancient Greece, you
are watching him put in Bechamel Sauce, the Kalamata Olives, and Feta Cheese, you breathe in and
smell the dish as it comes together. Then he pours in the best red wine in all of Ancient Greece, and
lets his creation sit for forty five minutes. Now it is your turn to try the masterpiece. You feel as if
your mouth has exploded with the best flavors you have ever tried. Soteriades the Sage was one of the
most famous cooks in Ancient Greece. Legends say he served many kings and always had a new dish
for each type of person he served, including the elderly, lovers, and philosophers. This is proven in my
source Greekalicious a historical cookbook written by Maria Bernardis; Who (Soteriades the Sage)
claimed he prepared different dishes for different moods and ages. The Ancient Greeks had very
similar culinary techniques as the modern day Greeks. The Greeks valued a variety of foods and plants
and incorporated them in preparing some of their finest dishes, many that are still prepared and eaten
today.
Bread and wine were some of the most important ingredients to the Ancient Greeks. They ate bread
with almost every meal. The Ancient Greeks most common breakfast was bread dipped in red wine
with fruit. They also occasionally ate bread with lunch and dinner and often had it as a midnight

In Amish culture there is a tradition known as Rumspringa where when you are 16 you leave the
community to experice the modern world and make the choice to get baptized and live in the

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Kambili is a girl struggling with her brother Jaja to gain independence
from her abusive father. Kambili and Jaja would have benifited from Rumspringa because they would

For the past few years, the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as drone, has
grown quickly. Originally, drones were developed for military applications and now it is significantly
important in the technology field and society. There are certain proposals and public interest in using
drones for food and package delivery (Elzweig, 2015). This indicates that drones have diversified
from military use to consumer use, becoming a part of everyday life. However, there are several
concerns associated with implementing delivery drones, this includes organisational structure, safety
and security, privacy and airspace interference (Doa, Gopi, Maione, 2016). This report s objectives
are:
To discuss the use of drones in the future for delivery in New Zealand.
To identify the benefits of using drones.
To address potential concerns associated with using drones.
To discuss how to mitigate these concerns through application of management function, planning.

The Importance Of Looking At The Sky
For thousands of years now, people have been observing the sky and the universe. Most would assume
that this did not happen until the Renaissance period, from the 14th to the 17th century, when in fact it
started much earlier than that. We can thank many of the Greeks for this matter, such as Aristotle for
an example. The main reasons for the use of looking at the sky was obvious in many cases, the two
main reasons were for traveling and farming. It was essential for surviving to know the seasons for
crops and to tell what kind of weather was to come before going places. One person who played a
huge role in astronomy and science was Galileo Galilei. Galileo had paved the way for many modern
day scientists and innovations. This man had devoted his entire life to his findings and to better
educate the public. In the poem The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, it was said by Sarah Williams, I
have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night, and this perfectly explains the relationship
Galileo had with astronomy. With all the struggles that Galileo went through he could have stopped
believing in what he did, yet he never did. His ideas were revolutionary in science and the world.
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15th in the year 1564 in Pisa, Italy. This period of time was right
in the middle of the Renaissance era. Galilei was the first born of six children to a famous musician
and scholar by the name of Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia degli Ammannati. His family

Analysis Of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
I attended the Maverick Theatre Company s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a play about a middle school spelling bee held
in one of America s many Putnam Counties. As the bee goes on, each contestant has to come to terms
with themselves, the world around them, and growing up. The promotional material for this
production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee doesn t actually give much away in terms
of what the play is about. The poster, for instance, just has the name of the play, a picture in the
background of someone s anxious feet, and the tagline Winning isn t everything... or is it? If there s a
more vague poster, I don t know what it is. So, I had no real expectations going in. I knew that there
was going to be a spelling bee involved and that this was a musical, and I d heard that there would be
some audience participation and lots of mentions of the word erection. That s about it. The plot of The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a bit contrived, though, wholly enjoyable. All of our
characters are introduced in the first song, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It s a bit of
a contrived way to introduce characters, though it hardly stands out. After all, this is a musical. We
expect songs as a way to advance plot, and here we get introduced to all of our characters and their
initial motivations. Starting off, they re actually a pretty one minded group. They all have

Hepburn And Streep Research Paper
There have been a wide variety of memorable actors and actresses that have taken Hollywood by
storm. Ranging from opera singers to theater performers, all of these stars may share many similarities
and differences, ranging from personality to number of awards. Of the many famous female stars of
Hollywood, Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Streep are by far some of the most accomplished and well
known. Both Hepburn and Streep acquired an interest for theater, acting, and performance at a young
age. Katharine Hepburn s interest in theater and acting was sparked as child when she and her siblings

Both women challenged stereotypes for female actresses regarding the characters they portrayed.
Hepburn played a wide variety of characters, ranging from queens to librarians ( Katharine Hepburn ).
Hepburn did not only accept roles for elegant women with class and sophistication. She took on a
variety of roles and became the outstanding performer known today. Hepburn was also an
astoundingly strong woman. At a young age, she lost her brother, with whom she was very close with,
to suicide. Hepburn remained strong through the tragedy, and along with her four siblings, she created
a self directed performing group with other neighborhood kids (Socha 867). Meryl Streep also played
characters who were not necessarily seen as feminine and graceful. Streep s physical appearance,
beautiful while still flexible, allowed her to easily become characters who were not ladylike and
tender, which was perfect for her to play a variety of characters ( Meryl Streep ). Hepburn and Streep
both strayed away from what women ordinarily played, changing the roles actresses in Hollywood
accepted and also changing the way society saw women. After seeing such great stars become females
who were not considered normal, it was much more acceptable for real women to not be what society

Florence Nightingale Influence
In nursing school, I remembered learning about Florence Nightingale and her impact in nursing. Still
to this day, her teachings and work to advance nursing is discussed. The nursing profession has grown
and evolved a great deal since the times of Nightingale. However, visionaries such as her and their
theories have been the ones making that happen. The first three American training schools for nurses,
modeled after Nightingale s famous school at St. Thomas Hospital in London, opened in 1873 (Black,
2014, p. 26). As nursing grew and more work was done to advance nursing as a profession, the
developing of professional associations such as ANA and NLNE helped further that goal. As author
Black (2014) continues, The precursor to the National League for Nursing, the American Society of
Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, was formed to address issues in nursing education.
The society changed its name in 1912 to the National League of Nursing Education (NLNE) and in
1952 became the National League for Nursing (NLN). This event held during the Chicago World s
Fair became a pivotal point in nursing history. Three years later, in 1896, Isabel Hampton Robb

Kirksville Library Volunteers Case
Introduction to Organization and Environment In regards to the Kirksville Library Volunteers Case,
this is a medium sized public library located in a large, southern city. Non profit. Funding. In order for
the library to function beyond the limits of its normal paid staff, the library relies on a large volunteer
reserve of 75 volunteers.
This library functions like many other libraries in its input, throughput, and output. It is most likely a
non profit organization that is funded by sources such as taxes, grants, and private benefactors. The
library also likely runs on a quarterly budget if not a yearly budget and it does not often have to
change how things are done. Because of this, the library by definition falls into a placid environment.

Volunteers would be guaranteed projects and tasks to do during their shift. In this situation there
would only be one employee managing the 75 volunteers, again this may be too much for one person.
Managing a lot of individuals can cause frustration for the selected employee who is managing the
volunteers, thus disturbing morale in the workplace.
The most practical solution for this management case would be to choose three to four serious, eligible
and qualified volunteers to become Volunteer Coordinators. Each Volunteer Coordinator would be
assigned to one section of the library e.g. circulation, technical services, or outreach and so on. They
would be liaising with staff from the designated section, creating a list of projects and tasks that could
be fulfilled by the volunteer. Previous communication issues would more than likely be solved
between staff and volunteer coordinators.
The Volunteer Coordinators would then select which category of the library volunteers would work,
dividing them up evenly as possible. A trusting relationship will begin to form after the volunteer
works in their designated section. One disadvantage of this arrangement could be that

New York City Cops The NYPD is one of the finest law enforcements when it comes to containing

Around the early 70 s, heroine was being brought over to the united states at very high rates. New
York City was a famous shipping ground for heroine, which made times tough for the law

3. How much time do I have to execute this before the cops find out?
In the 70 s before there was much technology to help and crack down these major dealers, the police
would have to deal with it by purely just evidence.
These cases always have to be dealt with patience. Buddy and Popeye tail a Lincoln that eventually
parks on a side street. Just like in real life they wait and wait to see if anything occurs and surely does,
at 4:10 A.M they both catch two thieves trying to strip the Lincoln. The Lincoln is towed back to a
garage where it is searched for evidence or in this case drugs.
They search everywhere from the trunk, under the hood and in the seating but come up empty. They
start to get a bit impatient but do not give up and eventually do find the drugs. It turned out to be in the
car s rocker panels underneath the doors. From this they have all the evidence they need to put these
mobsters in prison once and for all. As in reality a big case such as this will never be solved in a
couple of days, it could take weeks, months or even years.
The French Connection is one of the most realistic police movies that I have ever seen and teaches a
lot about cops. There are some stereotypes as Popeye who plays the tough cop role and at times could
be racist, while his partner buddy is the more patient and quiet one than his loud and obnoxious
partner. It s a common formula seen in other police movies. This

The Growing Culture Of Athletics

Mini Review Draft Two
Introduction
The growing culture of athletics has exploded into more than that of just a sport. Collegiate and
professional American football has grown itself into a multi billion dollar industry with a fan base of
over 350 million people. As the game of football has grown and evolved, so has the demand for bigger
athletes. All positions have increased in size through the years, however one position has seen the
greatest increase in size. The average weight of an NFL offensive lineman today is 310 pounds. This is
an average increase of 50 pounds in 60 years. Teams and coaches are pushing for players to get larger
at a faster rate, primarily offensive lineman. The drawback with this philosophy is as the size of the
individual increases, as does the risk of health complications. However, size isn t the only concern for
these players that has recently has had light shed upon it, the process of playing a line position
(offensive or defensive) includes repeatedly taking head collisions against the opposing player. Recent
research has shown that this type of play, even while wearing protective headgear, is causing lasting
brain damage and head trauma. The purpose of this review is to examine the research that has been
conducted on the negative health effects associated with playing the offensive lineman position at the
collegiate and professional level. Also, why these conditions are arising and what the

The Errors Of Second Language Learners
Many researchers in the field of error analysis have stressed the significance of errors of second
language learners. Corder (1967), for example, in his important article, notes that they are significant
in three different ways. First, to the teacher, in that they show how far towards the goal the learner has
progressed. Second, they provide to the researcher evidence of how a language is acquired, what
strategies the learner is employing in his learning of a language. Thirdly, they are indisputable to the
learner himself because we can regard the making of errors as a device the learner uses in order to
learn (p. 161).One of the most difficult challenges handled by non native speakers of English is
understanding the system of English articles. This study aims at providing a comprehensive account of
the types of errors produced by Persian speaking learners of English in their use of articles. Data were

Mann Act Case
The volume of Mann Act cases began to decline in the 1930s as juries had become less willing to
convict someone for consensual sex unrelated to prostitution. Although, as late as 1959, a federal
judge still determined that a Mann Act conviction was apt simply for having the intent to violate the
law, as long as the man had crossed state line. He stated, Proof that he accomplished his illicit purpose
is not necessary to conviction. However, the terms of the law have been amended multiple times since
its passage. The Mann Act still exists, but it had become broadly viewed as antiquated by the 1970s.

The Washington Redskins Name And Mascot
The Washington Redskins name and mascot represents one of the most recognized American Indian
figures in the United States. The controversial team name has been used since 1933, ever since
changing from its original name Boston Braves . It has sparked a nationwide outcry among the
remaining Native Americans who reside in the United States. Indians are forced to be reduced to
cartoon savages, ferocious warriors, and animal like heathens. After centuries of rampant dismissal,
removal, and destruction of this group, White Americans are still finding ways to subtly keep these

The slow yet brutal destruction of their population took place from 1492 1891. According to the legal
definition by the UN, this act is considered genocide which was perpetrated by both European
colonizers and the United States government. Tensions escalated and soon they were dehumanized to
the point where massacres such as Wounded Knee, hundreds of innocent Native Americans were
slaughtered by American soldiers. A significant precedent of the genocide was when White Americans
began making Indians the other . By viewing them as uncivilized creatures, it is easy to separate
oneself from a group so different. The use of Native American mascots is detrimental to young
American Indians and their psychological well being. When the mascot is constrained to a
stereotypical demeanor, it also constrains the way contemporary American Indians see themselves. In
mainstream media, Native Americans have little to no roles in movies, television, or music. The only
well known Indians in American culture are conventional characters created by large corporations
such as Disney s Pocahontas, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, and sports team s mascots. The few
representations of Native Americans are nationally broadcasted and provide misleading and immoral

Women Of An Amorous Woman
In his The Life of An Amorous Woman, Ihara Saikaku traces the demise of a woman whose thoughts
and actions were controlled by insatiable lust and sexual desire. She begins as a wife and then
progresses to a court lady in waiting, a concubine to a feudal lord, courtesan, priest s mistress, brothel
prostitute, and, finally a streetwalker. Though courtesans did not play a major role in ancient Japan, by
the seventeenth century, the courtesan class was sanctioned by the government to the extent that
official decrees created a separate district to enclose them and put up physical boundaries that
mirrored the division between them and traditional prostitutes. According to Chesemore in her essay,
Women of the Floating World, as in all areas of Japanese life, attention was paid to the distinctions in
the rank of the various inhabitants of this world, and clearly the courtesan reigned supreme
(Chesemore, 1990). Saikaku writes that, because of her beauty and talent, she had her choice of men,
and in the streets she walks with her head held high and does not step aside for anyone. Far from the
traditional Confucian gender roles, the amorous woman can afford to be haughty, as she was showered
with gifts and other luxuries. In Japanese society, at the time when these works were created, the
feminine sexuality of a wife and of a courtesan were seen as two dichotomous roles that could not
possibly be carried out by a single woman, at least in an ideal world. While it is true many

Just like a child who has had a toy taken away from him, he becomes upset that something he views as

name, thus marking her as his. Just like a true narcissist this brings out a narcissistic rage in Henchard.
He quickly begins to criticize and rage at her for anything she does that reminds him of his former life.
For example, her occasional pretty and picturesque use of dialect words , which reveal her poor
upbringing, force Henchard to think of his own past when he too was poor (99). Though, quite
hypocritically, though he is uncultivated himself he becomes the bitterest critic the fair girl could

inability to completely erase the tongue of her past, though ironically he can t erase his past either. Just
like how Elizabeth Jane s accent occasionally slips into her speech, similarly, Henchard s past
throughout the novel continues to slip into his new life. Needs more quotes: As the novel progresses,

Importance Of New Year In Iran
New Year is one of the highlights of the year. For many, it is a time they spend with their loved one
and count down until midnight to start the first day of the new year. New Year means new hopes, new
adventures, new opportunities, and most importantly new beginnings. Every new year brings a great
story for us to begin. All around the world, people celebrate the new year and start a fresh year that is
filled with happiness and joy. For example, some celebrate Rosh Hashanah, which is the Jewish new
year that is celebrated on September 20th, or Chinese New Year, which is celebrated between January

The freezing waters of Lake Huron were dotted with huge chunks of ice that bobbed in the waves.

Introduction to Confidence Intervals (page 248)
In chapter 7 we discussed how to make inferences about a population parameter based on a sample
statistic. While this can be useful, it has severe limitations. In Chapter 8, we expand our toolbox to
include Confidence Intervals. Instead of basing our inference on a single value, a point estimate, a
Confidence Interval provides a range of values, an interval, which at a certain level of confidence
(90%, 95%, etc.) contains the true population parameter. Having a range of values to make inferences
about the population provides much more room for accuracy than making an inference off of only one
value.

While it is possible that we could know enough about our population to make an assumption about
what the population standard deviation is, it is much more likely that if we do not know the population
mean, then we do not know the population standard deviation. In this case, we can t use the standard
normal distribution, and we use a different distribution, the Student s t distribution. Instead of , we
use s, the sample standard deviation.
The formula is: x±ta/2, df sn .
/2 is still defined the same way, and df is degrees of freedom, calculated as n 1, where n is the
sample size. Degrees of freedom determine the extent of the broadness of the tails of the distribution;

According to Stephen Crane s poetry it says that Swift blazing flag of the regiment, Eagle with crest of
red and gold, these men were born to drill and die. Point for them the virtue of slaughter; Make plain
to them the excellence of killing, and a field where a thousand corpses lie . (Crane). Country that
fights in a war will always have people that are strong and brave enough to give up their lives for
other people but those people that fight in a war will not have mercy for others fighting opposite side

Comparing and Contrasting The Passionate Shepherd to His...
Love throughout the years has been interpreted as an intense interpersonal attraction ( I love my
partner ). Love can also refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the
emotional closeness of familial love, or to the platonic love that defines friendship, to the profound
union or devotion of religious love. Love had been defined by individuals to get close to someone who
have actual feelings for or deeply care about, and one that you will actually risk your life for. But now,
love has been given a bad reputation because now some people are only interested in having non
intimate sex with others. People prefer temporary relationships, instead of dedicating their lives to
their loved ones. These types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker urges his love to live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the day. Sir Walter Raleigh
wrote a response to this poem in 1600 called The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. He uses the nymph
as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph s physical
appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph
thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The
shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure
of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love. In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him the realistic answer to why they cannot be
together.
Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a
passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He tells her
they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This implies that they
will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. He says he will make beds of roses and give her fragrant
posies (Marlowe 1). He promises to outfit her in fine clothes and that she will not want for anything.
He uses all these tempting things to help his

Colonial America Analysis
A seven letter word that is shrouded in both hatred and guilt of the destruction of countless cultures; at
the expense of cheap labor and profit. Yes slavery can be seen as one of humanities worst point in
history. To separate a family or force another man/woman to do your biding is absolutely deplorable.
And we have looked back to our past in shame and wondered how these people that went through
slavery got through all of it. We know of a way to find out by looking into the actually stories and
occupancies in all perspectives. In order to truly understand and relate to these unheard survivors.

In a historical fiction story by Toni Morrison called Beloved it follows what life is like during the
Reconstruction period of America. In Beloved we follow the life of Sethe along with her daughter
Denver. They use to be a family of seven until the ghost of Sethe s first baby daughter; the baby was
named Beloved. Later in the story a friend/lover from the plantation Sethe came from named Paul D.
Eventually Paul D rids the family of the ghost baby, but later on a strange woman comes into the trio s
life who coincidently is named Beloved. Whenever Beloved is around Sethe and Paul D she reminds
them of the horrors of slavery and the bad that they both have done in their life, while when she is
with Denver she sees hope and the idea of a sister she never had. Once Sethe begins to accept the
wrongs she has done Beloved is no longer around. Beloved as a woman represents all of the harm and
horror of slavery, because Sethe remembers all of the abuse and murder while Paul D thinks of
himself as only a

That one must embrace this position and identify as, but not be defined as the marginalised. Hooks argues in her essay, that succumbing solely to the identity of the oppressed be it race, gender or class, stifles one individualism and creativity. This space that is the margin, that is a site of creativity and power, that inclusive space where we recover ourselves. (Creed, 1993, p.8) It will focus on Kristeva s theory of the abject and the construction of the human subject in relation to the border, the mother child relationship and the feminine body. It will also explore how the representation of woman as abject is almost always in relation to her mothering and reproductive functions. The representation of women in relation to Freud s castration and the religious abject as discussed in Powers of Horror will also be examined. This chapter will also include a discussion on Kristeva s abject through Barbara Creed s The Monstrous Feminine. All human societies have a conception of the monstrous feminine, of what it is about women that is shocking. (Creed, 1993, p.1) Creed gives an interesting insight to Kristeva s abject and Freud s theory on castration in horror films. We are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and head straight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear. Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading towards the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. The already tense atmosphere was pushed even further with a number of taxes, acts and proclamations passed by Britain. These numerous acts usually dealt with taxes and other issues that came into conflict with the independent nature of the American colonists. No one issue was solely responsible for the eventual American Revolution. Though all of these added together raised the resentment to a boiling point and all contributed to the revolution. The harsh frontier life led to the independent and often stubborn nature of the American Colonists. Their fear led to more racial violence against the Native population. This conflict lasted from 1763 until a truce was at last finalized in 1766. Britain instituted the Proclamation of 1763 in response to the Native American threat and the racial tensions that permeated the colonial frontier. This proclamation attempted to appease and reassure the natives who feared colonial expansion. The Proclamation of 1763 formed four additional colonies and closed the frontier to further expansion. The colonies formed were Quebec, East and West Florida and Grenada. The frontier was closed to settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. An Indian reserve was set aside west of the Appalachian Mountains and the natives were placed under protection of the king. This act required settlers in the banned area to abandon their farms and land. British troops were sent to enforce the Proclamation, as the crown had no faith that the colonist would obey. The colonists were enraged by the Proclamation. The colonists had supported the French Indian War fully expecting to receive more frontier land as the prize of war. The Proclamation seemed to steal the valuable land from them, as the colonists saw the situation. Most colonists had no respect for the native tribes and did not believe that the native tribes had any claim to the land and resented Britain handing over valuable land to the natives. • 10. The Power Of Innovation By Don Tapscott The Power of Innovation The world has changed over the last ten years, technology has created a new world, where we have become more dependent on it. In his article, The Eight Net Gen Norms , Don Tapscott, discusses what he believes the net generation is and how they are defined by eight norms: Freedom, customization, scrutiny, integrity, collaboration, entertainment, speed, and innovation. (132) Tapscott makes some very unique observations, but there was one norm, I felt was more important, innovation. There are many reasons why, but the one main reason is the creation of new ideas. Without the innovated ideas, we wouldn t have the advanced technology we possess today. Think about the world without cell phones, no web, or no medical tools? We know for a fact this era couldn t survive without them. The workplace is starting to turn from the traditional way by allowing the employees to be heard, but there is still a gap between generations. The power of innovation helps people with everyday life, changing the way jobs are running, but also has created a rift between the old and new generations. Let s face it, life is so much better with the technology we possess now. In a matter of seconds, I can get information about the Roman Empire, just with one click of my phone, or start my car without my key or me being in it. With electoral processes, the rule of law and freedom from state oppression it makes sense that the populations has enough avenues to express grievances without resorting to full scale civil violence. Democracy beyond mutual democratic pacifism would thus have an impact on internal civil relations positively but this is not the case. There have been an increased number of cases of civil and ethnic violence in government systems that we might consider to be in stages of democratization. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [4] Hypothesis. There are two major hypothesis in this paper i. Pseudo democracies have greater levels of civil violence than do democracies ii. Pseudo democracies have greater levels of civil violence than autocracies. Theory I argue that this could be as a result of a number of reasons, while an autocratic government might be able to use force to keep the population under tight control, a weak democracy with its relative political and civil freedoms is likely to bring strife as soon as institutions are not functional and transparent enough. Ethnic groups, religious groups or party faithful soon take to violence when the institutions in place is not trusted either due to incapacity or lack of transparency and since the citizens now have a voice and might not be exposed to the dangers of brutal crackdowns they soon are exposed to strife that soon become violent. This might be due to introduction of unpopular or controversial laws, dissatisfaction with government performance or suspicion of government s actions. Competitive elections presents a whole new avenue for disagreement and where the representatives are disconnected from the electorate, they turn to violent conflict as a route to voice grievances with less fear of extreme crackdown by the government. • 12. The Impact Of Martin Luther Spread Of Protestantism Luther s spread of Protestantism primarily brought disunity to not only the Holy Roman Empire, but also to England. The Catholic Church had recently just built the St. Peter s Cathedral and started to sell indulgences to make more money off of the people. Martin Luther, a monk, was against the Catholic Church and their teachings and indulgences were the last straw. He believed that all a person needs to reach heaven is faith. Luther set out preaching his words opposing and questioning the church and their faulty beliefs. People listened and followed him full of trust and faith. However, this caused the Reformation and the beginning of a new religion. The spread of Protestantism among Europe brought impactful periods of disunity within the Holy Roman Empire and England, yet unlike the Holy Roman Empire, England was unified in the end. The entire reformation brought more disunity than unity from the beginning in the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) after Martin Luther s Reformation. It started with Luther s Ninety Five Theses in 1517, which was sparked by the Catholic church selling indulgences and spreading false ideas. Within his theses, he called out the church for their wrong teachings and corrupt clergy. His words, actions, and opinions inspired people and gave them a new hope, faith, and religion. He caused a divide within the Holy Roman Empire and was the main source of protestantism. Martin Luther provoked even more division when he said, A Christian man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this section it points out that Christianity does not go out its way to change external but instead change internal where the conscience comes to play. Kierkegaard makes it clear that love is matter of conscience in which Christianity focuses on more on the internal side more when it comes down to making any changes. Through your conscience one can make the decision to love the person they want in the true love way, which is before God. God and Christianity is a big part of someone because love is developed or even expressed in that person conscience where they have learned how to truly love. • 15. The Establishment Of A Free Market Economy The establishment of a free market economy with the creation of joint stock companies in the modern day Netherlands during the 1500 1600s spelt the beginning of capitalism, an economic system which has, since this period, brought untold prosperity to billions throughout the world. Its proliferation throughout Europe is one of the primary reasons why in the centuries thereafter it became the sole hegemon on the world stage, with its greatest embracer, Great Britain, holding sway over a fourth of the globe by the mid nineteenth century. Since these European centuries, liberal economic thought has spread throughout the world, with vibrant, flourishing economies sprouting in places from Singapore to Japan to even China, with its tentative economic liberalization being the direct result in hundreds of millions being lifted out of poverty. With such a good track record, one would be surprised that the bulk of the intelligentsia of this country is opposed to the continuation of a liberal, free market system. Indeed, in their papers on higher education in America, Mark Edmundson and William Deresiewicz indict the capitalist system as the bane of higher education, accusing the profiteering of private institutions as the primary reason why students are receiving a sub par education. Violating Its Investment Treaty Obligations In order to satisfy the necessity requirements, the responding government must demonstrate that violating its investment treaty obligations is the only way for the State to safeguard an essential interest against a grave and imminent peril. Moreover, the breach must not seriously impair an essential interest of the State towards which the obligations exists . In LG E, the tribunal determined that economic, financial or those interests related to the protection of the State against any danger seriously compromising its internal or external situation, are also considered essential interests. The tribunal in Enron, on the other hand, acknowledged the severity of the crisis but held that it had not compromised the existence of the State. That is, if other measures could lead to the same result, even if they would be more difficult or expensive, those alternative measures should be pursued. In CMS, EDF, Suez and Sempra, the tribunals found that human rights were relevant but the necessity defence was because it failed the only means requirement because the government had other options available. Originally, drones were developed for military applications and now it is significantly important in the technology field and society. There are certain proposals and public interest in using drones for food and package delivery (Elzweig, 2015). Most would assume that this did not happen until the Renaissance period, from the 14th to the 17th century, when in fact it started much earlier than that. We can thank many of the Greeks for this matter, such as Aristotle for an example. The main reasons for the use of looking at the sky was obvious in many cases, the two main reasons were for traveling and farming. It was essential for surviving to know the seasons for crops and to tell what kind of weather was to come before going places. One person who played a huge role in astronomy and science was Galileo Galilei. Galileo had paved the way for many modern day scientists and innovations. This man had devoted his entire life to his findings and to better educate the public. In the poem The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, it was said by Sarah Williams, I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night, and this perfectly explains the relationship Galileo had with astronomy. With all the struggles that Galileo went through he could have stopped believing in what he did, yet he never did. His ideas were revolutionary in science and the world. Galileo Galilei was born on February 15th in the year 1564 in Pisa, Italy. This period of time was right in the middle of the Renaissance era. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a play about a middle school spelling bee held in one of America s many Putnam Counties. As the bee goes on, each contestant has to come to terms with themselves, the world around them, and growing up. The promotional material for this production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee doesn t actually give much away in terms of what the play is about. The poster, for instance, just has the name of the play, a picture in the background of someone s anxious feet, and the tagline Winning isn t everything... or is it? Hepburn was also an astoundingly strong woman. At a young age, she lost her brother, with whom she was very close with, to suicide. Hepburn remained strong through the tragedy, and along with her four siblings, she created a self directed performing group with other neighborhood kids (Socha 867). Meryl Streep also played characters who were not necessarily seen as feminine and graceful. Streep s physical appearance, beautiful while still flexible, allowed her to easily become characters who were not ladylike and tender, which was perfect for her to play a variety of characters ( Meryl Streep ). The first three American training schools for nurses, modeled after Nightingale s famous school at St. Thomas Hospital in London, opened in 1873 (Black, 2014, p. 26). Though courtesans did not play a major role in ancient Japan, by the seventeenth century, the courtesan class was sanctioned by the government to the extent that official decrees created a separate district to enclose them and put up physical boundaries that mirrored the division between them and traditional prostitutes. According to Chesemore in her essay, Women of the Floating World, as in all areas of Japanese life, attention was paid to the distinctions in the rank of the various inhabitants of this world, and clearly the courtesan reigned supreme (Chesemore, 1990). In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him the realistic answer to why they cannot be together. Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He tells her they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This implies that they will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. He says he will make beds of roses and give her fragrant posies (Marlowe 1). He promises to outfit her in fine clothes and that she will not want for anything.
