Contextual learning analytics apps to create awareness in blended inquiry lea...Andrii Vozniuk
The paper was presented at ITHET 2015: http://infoscience.epfl.ch/record/206896?ln=en
Blended inquiry learning, where students for example use online labs to perform experiments, is considered a promising approach to increase the skills and interest of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics domains. For teachers to provide adequate guidance to their students, it is critical that they are aware of the progress and difficulties encountered by each student. This can be accomplished through visual learning analytics, namely by tracking student interaction, data analysis and adequate visualisations. To address this awareness issue, we present in this paper a set of contextual learning analytics apps which provide the teacher with learning-specific information. This paper presents a requirement analysis from a summer school with 32 teachers, the design and implementation of three contextual learning analytics apps, the main outcomes from a case study as well as an outlook on future research avenues.

This presentation has been designed as a starting point for anyone thinking about online learning. It's a very brief overview that looks at some of the outcomes and interactions that might be desired, along with a tool that may be used to help achieve this (with careful learning design). It is not supposed to be exhaustive...more of an indication of potential and something that leads to more questions.

Researchers are surrounded by technology whether they like it or not. NVivo is the CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software), available at York St John University to staff and students undertaking qualitative research. However, the numbers of users taking up the opportunity are low. Why is this the case?

Presented by Cheryl Dobbs at the BDA International Conference 2014.
As part of a qualitative study that investigated the different contexts in which students used digital technologies to support their personal difficulties with writing, this paper focuses upon one student's experience. It culminated in an exploration of his use of different technologies and specifically his adoption of speech recognition software to support his issues with dyslexia and dyspraxia. This student’s experience does not dwell purely upon successful implementation but demonstrates the problems, frustrations and barriers he encountered as he endeavoured to strive for productivity in different educational environments. This included his experience in both primary and secondary schools, and subsequently university. Some of the strategies he ultimately employed to facilitate use will be explored, since these emphasise the importance of personal autonomy and responsibility for his own learning needs.

Applying and translating learning design and analytics approaches in your ins...Bart Rienties
This interactive workshop delivered by the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organisation and Informatics (UZ) and the Open University UK (OU) will build on two large-scale implementations of learning design and learning analytics, and how you could potentially implement similar approaches in your institution. The OU has been implementing learning design for nearly 20 years as a structured design, specification, and review process for blended and online courses. The learning design is focused on "what students do" as part of their learning, rather than on "what teachers do" or on what will be taught.
Building on this work, UZ has recently developed the Balanced Design Planning (BDP) tool specifically for educators working in hybrid and blended contexts. The tool is more focused on intended learning outcomes and automated learning analytics and is currently being developed, tested, evaluated and implemented with 1000+ practitioners from dozens of institutions in 20+ countries as part of four European projects (eDesk, Teach4EDU, RAPIDE, iLED), and is publicly available for other institutions to use for free. It has been shown by studies conducted by OU and UZ that when these learning design (LD) approaches are used, they help educators to make real-time informed decisions based on learning analytics (LA) and improve the predictive modelling of student behaviour.
Attendees should bring their laptop for this workshop session.

I need 10 pages of report and 10 slides PurposeThis course pdoylymaura
I need 10 pages of report and 10 slides
Purpose
This course project is intended to assess your ability to comprehend and apply the basic concepts related to information security management, such as the following:
The ability to discern when a risk assessment should be performed and carrying out the task
Understanding user or customer access requirements, whether remote or local
Using a layered security approach to establish and maintain access controls
Working with other departments, such as the human resources department, to identify and implement methods to prevent unwarranted exposure to information by inappropriate personnel
Your ability to execute the tasks within these information security domains and others will be evaluated against the learning objectives as identified and described in previous lessons of instruction for this course.
Required Source Information and Tools
The following tools and resources will be needed to complete this project:
Course textbook
Access to the Internet
Access to the library
Text sheet: Integrated Distributors Incorporated (access_project_ts_integrateddistributors)
Learning Objectives and Outcomes
Successful completion of this project will ensure that you are capable of supporting the implementation and management of an information systems security framework. To be able to do so, you need to be able to do the following:
Relate how an access control policy framework is used to define authorization and access to an information technology (IT) infrastructure for compliance.
Mitigate risks to an IT infrastructure’s confidentiality, integrity, and availability with sound access controls.
Relate how a data classification standard influences an IT infrastructure’s access control requirements and implementation.
Develop an access control policy framework consisting of best practices for policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines to mitigate unauthorized access.
Define proper security controls within the User Domain to mitigate risks and threats caused by human nature and behavior.
Implement appropriate access controls for information systems within IT infrastructures.
Mitigate risks from unauthorized access to IT systems through proper testing and reporting.
Project Checkpoints
The course project has a checkpoint strategy. Checkpoint deliverables allow you to receive valuable feedback on your interim work. In this project, you have four ungraded checkpoint deliverables. (See the syllabus for the schedule.) You may discuss project questions with the instructor, and you should receive feedback from the instructor on previously submitted work. The checkpoint deliverable ensures refinement of the final deliverables, if incorporated effectively. The final deliverable for this project is a professional report and a PowerPoint presentation.
