• The history of mankind has continuously remained interlocked to the
surrounding environment.
• The first civilizations realized that there were plants with healing
potential. The value of plants has a long history in saving human beings
cutting across different cultures in the world .
• Utilization of medicinal plants by individuals lies on the knowledge
accumulated through the interaction of people with the environment and
the diffusion of information, traditionally transmitted orally through
subsequent generations . In the contemporary world of conventional
medicine, the practice of herbal medicine has attracted more attention
and is becoming accepted Globally .
• Traditional medicine is not well documented in most African societies .
However, the practices and resources have been orally transferred from
one generation to another thus limiting its reliability
