  1. We are at this generational inflection point again. Don’t expect HP/Dell/MS/EMC/Cisco/Oracle/SAP/SIs to drive this change. As usual, this will give rise to new vendors. Lots of new players will be there for some years to come.
  2. We are sure that Cloud, Apps and Data is happening. This is not in dispute.
  3. Part of the reason app proliferation will happen is because costs are falling.
  4. Soon core apps will cost no more than supporting or situational apps. This is because apps are going modular… (go to next slide).
  5. Traditional applications are gettingplatformized. On top of that, business process specific applications and data-driven task specific apps are being built. This data-enabled modularization of apps is making umbrella apps redundant. A few years back, quote-to-cash was an umbrella app. Now its many separate apps using the same data model.
  6. These two forces – radical cost reduction and data-driven modularization of apps – are creating a flat world for apps.
  7. In this flat world, India is rising to the surface as an innovation hub. Tell stories about FusionChars, KissFlow, EmployWise.
  8. So apps spending will rise. Apps will bring competitive advantage to firms. Who’ll do make buying decisions for these apps? CIOs or LOBs? This is a big question. I posed this to Piyush Singh. His answer was instructive.
