1. Dilip Kumar Sarma- a brief profile
After winning the Gold Medal from Guwahati University in Arts I went on to
complete my Masters from Pune University in 1974. After a brief stint at
teaching, I decided to change direction to pursue my Masters of Personnel
Management from IMDR, under Pune University then a new field and LLB (Gen.),
Symbiosis College (second batch of the institution) under Pune University in
1982 with a plan to make a career in management.
I possess over 35 years of work experience in processing (Paper and Pulp
Conversions, Pune) in Manufacturing (Hindustan Lever Limited, Sewri Factory,
Mumbai and WIMCO, Dhubri) and in Tea (Williamson Magor Group, Balipara and
Margherita TEs and Assam Tea Corporation). After working for close to 20
years I realized my dream of entrepreneurship (Founder North Eastern
Management and Labour Consultancy Services and Vidisha Institute of
Management Studies, Guwahati). I currently serve as the Executive President of
North East Chambers of Commerce and Industry, NECCI, Guwahati) having
joined it as Secretary in 1998.
As an entrepreneur I got to minutely observe the aspiration of the youth when it
came to career choices and decided to author a book about the right way to
choosing a career (You and your career, 1999, A H Wheeler &Co.), later I also
edited books and magazines for NECCI, I am a personality trainer, orator and
consultant. In my working life I have donned many colorful hats and am ever
enthusiastic to interact with youth, guiding them, counseling them or sharing
experiences gathered during my many international visits. I am also an HRD
Consultant and have conducted many Supervisory and Management Training
programs for NEHHDC, HPC, Jagiroad, HDFC Bank, etc.
I reside in Guwahati with my family; my wife is a languages trainer while my son
is hospitality trainer. If offered a respectable remuneration I shall be ready to
work for 10 years on contractual basis too.

3. Achievements
1. Established the Personnel Department in Paper and Pulp Conversions Limited
from scratch.
2. Handled strong unions at Hindustan Lever Ltd. and managed not to allow strikes
during my tenure.
3. Created general awareness about the company, value of work culture, product
development, sense of belonging among the workforce through various HR
programs at WIMCO Ltd, Dhubri.
4. Created a name for Tradewings Institute of Management in the entire North
Eastern Region of India. My students are placed all over India.
5. Developed NECCI from scratch, created a name and brought the turn over to
over 1.5 cr.
6. Visited Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
7. Was member of the Business Development Team, sponsored by the World Bank
for development of trade and business between Bangladesh & NER of India
8. Organized a number of seminars, workshops for NECCI, sponsored by
Government of India, NEC, World Bank, etc.
9. Edited number of journals for NECCI in connection with seminars organized by
us.
10. Published number of articles in magazines and newspapers, etc.
11. Presented a number of papers in seminars organized by other organizations.
12. Published a book titled ‘You and your career’
13. Edited a book on entrepreneurship
14. Edited a book on Agricultural development topics
15. Liaison with Government and Semi Government organizations on developmental
issues of the North Eastern Region as part of advocacy
16. Mobilized participants for the various seminars organized by NECCI to lead the
