Fault tolerance is important for distributed systems to continue functioning in the event of partial failures. There are several phases to achieving fault tolerance: fault detection, diagnosis, evidence generation, assessment, and recovery. Common techniques include replication, where multiple copies of data are stored at different sites to increase availability if one site fails, and check pointing, where a system's state is periodically saved to stable storage so the system can be restored to a previous consistent state if a failure occurs. Both techniques have limitations around managing consistency with replication and overhead from checkpointing communications and storage requirements.
Subnetting
Subnets divide a network into smaller sub-networks or subnets. Each subnet is treated as a separate network and can be further divided. When a packet enters a network with subnets, routers will route based on the subnet ID which is a combination of the network ID and subnet portion of the IP address. Subnets are only relevant for routing within an organization and are transparent outside the organization.

1) A study evaluated quality of life in rectal cancer patients who underwent sphincter-preserving surgery following neoadjuvant therapy through questionnaires.
2) The questionnaires assessed fecal incontinence, quality of life, and other issues. Results found that 61-67% of patients reported some accidental bowel leakage but did not require proximity to a bathroom at all times.
3) Scores on other scales regarding lifestyle, coping, depression, and embarrassment indicated acceptable to good quality of life despite some mild functional impairment. The majority of patients did not prefer or think their quality of life would be better with a stoma.

High performance Serverless Java on AWS- GoTo Amsterdam 2024
Java is for many years one of the most popular programming languages, but it used to have hard times in the Serverless community. Java is known for its high cold start times and high memory footprint, comparing to other programming languages like Node.js and Python. In this talk I'll look at the general best practices and techniques we can use to decrease memory consumption, cold start times for Java Serverless development on AWS including GraalVM (Native Image) and AWS own offering SnapStart based on Firecracker microVM snapshot and restore and CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) runtime hooks. I'll also provide a lot of benchmarking on Lambda functions trying out various deployment package sizes, Lambda memory settings, Java compilation options and HTTP (a)synchronous clients and measure their impact on cold and warm start times.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
