Agile Software Development (ASD) has been on mainstream through methodologies such as XP and Scrum enabling them to be applied in the development of complex and reliable software systems. This paper is the end result of the Master’s dissertation of the main author, and proposes a solution to guide the development of complex systems based on components by adding exceptional behavior modeling practices to Scrum, resulting in the Scrum+CE method (Scrum with Exceptional Behavior).
In order to evaluate the proposed method, a synthetic controlled experiment was conducted with three groups.We compared the efficiency of the new process in relation to plain Scrum and the results were the production of a better quality software but with less features implemented during the same amount of time.

Learning how to assess learning portfolios
When institutions switch from a program assessment system to individual learning portfolios, students spend more time reflecting upon, personalizing, and documenting their work. During such a transition, assessment design becomes more challenging. Alignment of artifacts to program standards is essential to ensure continuity of learning and program documentation. We describe a transition from a sterile electronic portfolio system to a learner centered, reflective blogging portfolio (bPortfolio) using free WordPress.com accounts. Session attendees will receive access to examples of portfolio entries, assessment rubrics, and strategies for using four types.

Study Island is a web-based program that breaks math topics into five anchors and provides instruction, practice, and assessment of state standards through multiple choice questions, classroom response systems, printable worksheets, and games. It allows teachers to create classes, assign topics, and view reports on student progress including the number of questions answered and time taken to earn a blue ribbon for scoring proficient or above on each topic.

Internet-based project work (IBPW) allows teachers to incorporate the internet into language lessons in a structured way. It encourages cooperative learning and cross-curricular topics. Steps to prepare an IBPW include choosing a topic, defining the task, finding resources, and deciding on the outcome. WebQuests are mini-projects where most information comes from online. They have a rigid structure and specific learning goals or outcomes. Examples of WebQuest topics include global warming, planning a UK trip, and investigating who made athletic shoes.

We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Building Production Ready Search Pipelines with Spark and Milvus
Spark is the widely used ETL tool for processing, indexing and ingesting data to serving stack for search. Milvus is the production-ready open-source vector database. In this talk we will show how to use Spark to process unstructured data to extract vector representations, and push the vectors to Milvus vector database for search serving.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
