Discussion Essay Example
Writing an essay on the topic "Discussion Essay Example" can be quite challenging, as it requires
a careful balance of presenting different perspectives, analyzing arguments, and forming a
cohesive discussion. The difficulty lies in the need to critically evaluate various viewpoints,
articulate thoughts clearly, and provide evidence to support claims. Crafting a discussion essay
involves thorough research to gather relevant information and a deep understanding of the topic
to present a comprehensive analysis.
One of the challenges is organizing the essay in a logical structure, ensuring that each paragraph
contributes to the overall argument and maintains a coherent flow. It's crucial to avoid bias and
present a fair representation of opposing views, which can be demanding, especially when
dealing with controversial topics. Additionally, striking a balance between providing evidence
and personal opinion while maintaining an objective tone can be intricate.
Moreover, crafting a compelling introduction that captures the reader's attention, followed by a
strong thesis statement, sets the tone for the entire essay. Developing well-structured body
paragraphs with clear topic sentences and supporting evidence is crucial to conveying the
intended message effectively. The conclusion should summarize key points and reiterate the
thesis without introducing new information, adding another layer of complexity.
Despite the challenges, the process of writing a discussion essay can be intellectually rewarding,
enhancing critical thinking and analytical skills. However, it requires time, dedication, and a
meticulous approach to produce a high-quality piece.
For those facing difficulties, seeking assistance from platforms like HelpWriting.net can

Lady Macbeth s Manipulation Of Lady Macbeth
Imagine feeling in control; like every choice made was your own doing and what
you envisioned. However this is all an illusion. In reality there is someone else,
whispering every move made into your ear and steering you in a specific direction.
They are like a puppet master. They have dominance over your thoughts and
movements without you realizing it. This is the way Lady Macbethmanipulates
Macbeth in William Shakespeares play Macbeth. She persuades him to act in certain
ways, and when he falters, she undermines him until he decides that he needs to do
what she has told him. Lady Macbeth uses Macbeth s temper and frail mindthat is
susceptible to temptation, in order to maneuver her way into power. From the very
beginning of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth instills ideas into Macbeth s head; knowing
he will do what ever she wishes because he is devoted to her. The mutual passion
shared between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth depends on their shared dream of
greatness (Bloom 187). This passion is what drives Lady Macbeth to... Show more

Thomas Whately, in his Remarks on Some of the Characters of Shakespeare, states
that Macbeth had no ambition for the crown until he heard the witches prophecy.
The witches together with Lady Macbeth persuade Macbeth to act in violence and

together when she proclaims, Come, you spirits / at tend on mortal thoughts,

The Factors Of Political Socialization

Exam #2
Similar to many of the things we are introduced to growing up as humans, our
political knowledge is one of the things that does not derive from one specific source.
Our thoughts on politics is constantly evolving and maturing as we encounter
different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political socialization include
our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and
beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment
contributes to our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the
fundamentals of American government and politics, and lastly the media
continuously shapes our view of the government. All three of these agents, are
crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many intellects
will argue that family is one of the most important agents in regards to political
socialization (cite). This comes as no surprise, as children we are incapable of
making rational decisions for ourselves. Thus, our parents and family members are
tasked with making the best possible choices for us instead. In fact, as children we
want to please our parents so we are receptive to their views, this includes political
beliefs. (Stockwell, Chapter 6: Public Opinion, Political Socialization, and the
Media.) Furthermore, our family can also have an effect on how we view politics in
our future. Studies show Children whose parents
Analysis Of Coyote And The Enemy Alien
Othering: As Shown in Thomas King s Coyote and the Enemy Alien and the
Canadian Government In the short story Coyote and the Enemy Alien by Thomas
King, there is a common theme of othering that is demonstarted in the story.
Othering is defined as to view or treat (a person or group of people) as intrinsically
different from and alien to oneself (idk how to cite this). The idea of othering is
expressed through the Coyote s words and actions. Othering has been a significant
part of the Canadian society with the inauguration of the Indian Act and unethical
treatment of the Indigenous people of Canada due to the introduction of the new
legislation. In Coyote and the Enemy Aliens by Thomas King, the main character,
the Coyote, has the most important job in the world (King 55) as he states it is
more important than being truthful (King 55), reliable (King 55), fair (King 56),
and generous (King 56). The Coyote s job is a direct parallel to the job of an Indian
Agent when it was introduced in 1867. The Coyote s job is to confiscate and sell any
contraband items that the Enemy Aliens have in their possession or any items that
the Coyote believes is unnecessary for the Enemy Aliens to have. Similarly, the job of
an Indian Agent had the same duties. An Indian Agent had the right and role to
regulate everything that happened on a reserve, including confiscating property and
relocating problematic Indigenous people away from their home and family. With the
Coyote s ability to confiscate Enemy Alien property, especially the family heirlooms,
this can cause depletion of Enemy Alien traditions and heritage can become lost. The
loss of tradition was the goal of the Canadian Government when the Indian Act was
introduced, assimilation and civilisation of First Nationspeople (Gov website).
Eminently, King s installation of the Coyote s job appropriates the position that the
Indian Agents portrayed in the history of Canada. It exhibits how much
unquestionable authority and dominance the government had over the Indigenous
society and how much the introduction of the Indian Act had on how the Indigenous
people were scrutinized by society. With othering, it is viewing someone as
intrinsically different
Moral Dilemmas Of The Louisiana Purchase
The purchase of Louisiana between France and the United States changed America
forever. However, the Louisiana Purchase posed several significant moral dilemmas
for President Thomas Jefferson because of Jefferson s belief in strict constructionism
, the government conflicts that arose, and the concern of how the people and states
would come into the Union.
Jefferson s plans for the nation were dependent upon westward expansion for
educated American farmers. He wanted access to international markets to create the
ideal society of agriculturist. His enduring vision was altered and crushed, however,
when France repossessed control of Louisiana in 1801. The ambitious Napoleon
Bonaparte, who had risen to power during the French Revolution, threatened to block
American access to the New Orleans port on the Mississippi River. This port played a
crucial key in the American business. New American settlements west of the
Appalachian Mountains were dependent on the Mississippi River to transport their
goods. The then president, Thomas Jefferson understood that blocking access to
New Orleans was a grave threat to the interests of Americans. So what did Jefferson
do? Well when the vast territory presented itself, he knew he could not pass it up.
Jefferson always stated his strong belief that the federal government powers should
be followed strictly. In fact, Article IV of the Constitution states that new states could
be added, but made no provisions for the taking of foreign territories ( Jefferson and
the Louisiana Purchase ). Being a strict constructionist, he strongly felt that any
powers not specifically given to the federal government were reserved for the
interest of individual sovereign states. Jefferson followed the Constitution
religiously and when he purchased Louisiana it challenged his whole belief on it.
He previously argued with Alexander Hamilton about the Presidential Powers as
presented (The Moral Dilemma). Needless to say, he was caught in the act and
people took notice. Many of those in the Federalist Party believed that if anyone else
were to do the same thing he would have objectified on Constitutional grounds. Some
New England Federalists even began to talk of secession since their political

The first three time periods in American literature had distinguishing characteristics in
their subject matter and writing styles. Puritans wrote about their religious beliefs
and daily life during the Age of Faith. During the Age of Reason, the Revolutionary
War was going on and much of the writings were political documents as a result of
the war. The Age of Romantics brought about the first fictional writings. The three

While the Revolutionary War was going on, so was the Age of Reason in American
literature. During the Revolutionary War, the future citizens of the United States
were divided on whether or not to fight the British. Political pamphlets were given
out to get the American people to support fighting the British and once most of
America agreed to fight the British the decision still had to be made by the
president and delegates at the Virginia Convention of 1775. Patrick Henry, a
representative at this convention, persuaded the delegates to fight the British in his
very famous speech at the convention. In his speech, he used passionate words and
phrases such as the most famous, ??give me liberty, or give me death? (Henry 90).
Soon after his speech, the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in
Lexington, Massachusetts. The writers of this age also wrote autobiographies and
essays. In the essay ?Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America? by
Benjamin Franklin, Franklin examines the word ?savages? and what it really means.
He subtly criticizes the settlers who refer to the Native Americans as ?savages? and
points out that the Native Americans are less savage than the settlers. The
Revolutionary War not only brought about the independence of our country, but also
encouraged free expression.
After the turmoil of the Revolution, the people needed to relax and forget about their
worries. The writers of the Age of Romantics knew this and for the first time in

dress code is strict but it isn t always that bad. Students have gotten in trouble multiple

Many students think they should be able to wear the clothes they want to as long as
they are not inappropriate. However, different people have different opinions on what
is appropriate or not. After asking multiple students, most of them think the dress code

Smart Card is the perfect media that can be used as a health card due to its small
size, secure, capability of digitizing a huge amount of personal and medical data
[4]. Some attempts have been done by researchers to develop a personal portable
healthcare record smart cards and a corresponding framework to simplify
maintenance and transfer of patient records [9]. Researchers in the U.K. have
created MyCare, a smart card with a fold out USB plug that can hold a patient s
medical history. MyCare was developed with open source that enables it to run on
different computers and operating systems. Data is protected through PINs and
encryption, with a higher level of encryption planned for further stages in the
development process [5][6]. These smart card projects work better in countries
with nationalized health care. In the US For example, competition among
hospitals is a barrier to a smart card system [5]. Smart card technology was not
widely spread due to lack of standards (Dash, 2001); the communications between a
smart card and smart card reader. The cards also need to be updated constantly
which would be hard to enforce [10]. For smart cards, user mobility is only possible
if every machine that the user access has a smart card reader attached. The machine
must support the same standard smart card reader interfaces or use the same
proprietary smart card reader [11].

The Pros And Cons Of Hydrogen
Jasmine Nguyen, Annie Vo
The energy source that will have a thorough description from how it works to what
it s made of and much more, is hydrogen fuel source. The first fuel cell was
invented by Sir William Robert Grove in 1839. Hydrogen is the fuel of destiny
mainly due to it s elevated transformation efficiency, salvaging, and non
contaminating nature. Hydrogen plays a higher role in the sustainability of life and
can be employed to cause energy. Hydrogen can also be manufactured using several
various processes such as electrolysis, solar energy, and can be assembled, both
thermochemically and biologically. Electrolysis is the process of using a dynamic
current to isolate water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Unfortunately this
procedure has more intensive energy. The electrolysis process is pretty valuable
since it involves high energy consumption. The energy used to generate a current
in the electrolysis process is pretty valuable since it involves high energy
consumption. The energy is also limited from fossil fuels like oil, natural gas or
coal. The electrical charge that is tested to water will shatter the chemical bonds
between hydrogen and oxygen atoms. As a result, it will produce charged particles
called ions. The ions must be free to proceed in order for electrolysis to work. When

but they can t produce energy all the time. With hydrogen being a fuel cell, it has a
higher efficiency than diesel or gas engines. Most fuel cells are able to operate
without making sound, compared to central combustion engines. Therefore they re

Compare And Contrast Anglo Saxon And English Language
Both the Anglo Saxons and Vikings had their own identity and language, they migrate
and then have to find ways to communicate and understand each other. The same
happened in the previous centuries when countries were invaded by other tribes and
cultures integrated. People were brought together and had to communicate, new
languages were formed or existing languages had to adapt to accommodate new loan
words and phrases. Written communication had to be such that most of the readers

shows that Old English was already a fully developed poetic language by this time,
with a particular emphasis on alliteration and percussive effects (Mastin, 2011).
Furthermore, Horne suggests, The Old English language was capable of poignant
and haunting poetic expression . Considering that the Anglo Saxons contributed not
only their language, but also the influence of their religious beliefs and the Latin used

Why Were The Bolsheviks Successful In Seizing Power
Why were the Bolsheviks successful in seizing power? What were the forces and
actions that made them successful in seizing power in October/November 1917?
Prior to the 1917 Revolutions, there was constant unsettlement within Russia; there
was a struggle for food, a struggle for economic control and a struggle for a stable
government. The February Revolution brought an end to Tsar Nicholas II reign and
emerged was a Provisional Government based on democratic ideals. Despite the
Provisional Government s success in implementing civil liberties, the Duma kept
Russia in the First World War which not only continued the depletion of natural
resources, but also heightened the discontent from citizens among all social classes.
The Kulaks fought for land ownership and fought against conscription while the
nobles and aristocracy desired to re establish the Monarchy. In October to November,

working and middle classes, did not see a red army, but rather, they decided to put

from Russia s displeased citizens to bring upon a quiet yet powerful revolution by

Preventing Drunk Driving
The biggest solution to me that would prevent drunk drivers from taking the wheel
is ignition interlock devices. They assist in preventing a driver from operating the
vehicle if their BAC is over 0.15% to 0.20% depending on the jurisdiction. (Driving
laws) Tricking the ID on the devices can be very difficult and unlikely, but if one is
feeling bold and tries it there will be major consequences if the person is caught. I
aim to have these automatically stored in all the new models of cars that are being
produced while also getting them installed to people cars now. The price to install
these now are one hundred dollars to install and ranges from fifty to a hundred
dollars a month for leasing. (Drivinglaws) I am positive that if we get more... Show

If the BAC is within the pre determined limit, the fuel cell triggers a relay to close
and the car will start. (Driving laws) These haven t caught on nationally, but would
be an added layer of prevention if made mandatory. My idea to make sure these
breathalyzers get installed is to make check points , at all the gas stations, car
shops, DMVs, and any other spots that cars are eventually going to have to make a
stop at. I plan to add a strike system for the ones who have not caught along to
getting the breathalyzers. Strike one with have to set a meeting with a financial
person to see if the problem is the person not having the right amount of funds. For
the people that make fewer than thirty thousand dollars, a year will have a chance
to apply to the program to get financial help. The money will come from the
systems and foundations already in place to prevent drunk driving. Strike two will
be a warning if you still have not gotten the device installed giving the individual a
certain amount of days to get it installed before the next check up. Strike three will
have to deal with the driver and their license getting suspended for not following the
rules after financial help and an extra deadline to get the device
Comparing The Philosophies Of Milton Friedman And
Homer Dixon
Milton Friedman and Homer Dixon both had their own idea of what the role of a
business had in society concerning social responsibilities. Friedman was on the side
of the economic perspective, while Dixon was arguing more for the natural and
environmental standpoint. Freidman purposed that the only responsibility for a
business was to increase profits, the basic fundamental aspect of business. He
believed that, only people have responsibilities, a corporationis an artificial person
and may have artificial responsibilities, but business as a whole cannot have
responsibilities (Freidman). This is a very technical type of view since Friedman
manipulates the idea that a business is not a human being where they have
responsibilities. Also, Freidman argues that the only responsibility of a CEO is to be
to the company and his employees and that the chief executive officer is to monitor
production to make sure that products are being... Show more content on

He believes that corporations should be fulfilling their duty to society. Dixon
introduces the idea of these five tectonic stresses that lead to the downfall of our
society now and in the future. They are, population stress (difference in growth rates
between rich and poor societies), energy stress (scarcity of natural resources like gas
and oil), environmental stress (damage to environment), climate stress (growing
problem of global warming), and economic stress (instability of economy and gaps
between rich and poor). (Homer Dixon). Dixon purposes that corporations do not care
about the environment and deny that these problems exist until the reach a certain
point where it is too late and the damage is done. Homer Dixon finally states, we must
constantly reinvent our societies, ourselves, and our future (Homer Dixon). What I
believe he is trying to say is that, not just these big corporations, but individuals must
evaluate themselves and their actions, for now and into the

promising, indicating that this method is applicable for DDoS strength evaluation in

The proposed scheme has an advantage over traditional packet marking schemes in
terms of scalability and storage requirements in victim or intermediate routers. The
method stores only short term information of traffic entropy in order to detect the
DDoS attack. The research also presented experimental analysis to claim that the
method is able to implement accurate trace back in a large scale DDoS attack
scenario within a few seconds. In addition to variation scheme, a few other methods
also exist to trace back DDoS sources. The classification is given below. In packet
marking schemes, the idea is to trace the path through uplink routers up to the attack
sources. It is a common method employed in trace back implementations but contains
inherent drawbacks. In the packet logging scheme, the information of each packet is
stored at routers through which the packet is passed. The stored information of the
packet contains constant header fields and first 8 bytes of the payload which are
hashed through many hash functions to produce digests. These digests are stored by
DGAs using bloom filter, a space efficient data structure. In the pushback scheme, the
router under congestion sends the rate limit request to upstream routers. It determines
from which routes the stream of packets is arrived and devises an attack signature for
such traffic. The signature belongs to the aggregate traffic having common property
such as the same destination address. A mechanism called

that solid fueled rockets are harder to shoot down. While this is true, in most cases

the author misleads the audience. He states that North Korea has an estimated 10 to

Hydrogen Batteries And Fuel Cells
Introduction Batteries/Fuel Cells Fuel cells operate via a chemical reaction which
generates electricity. All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and
an electrolyte to carry the charged particles through the cell. They also contain a
catalyst which will increase the rate of the reaction occurring. The electricity
produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in turn, creates a circuit
with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction ceases .
Recently the development metal air batteries (which can be produced from a range of

previously the anode is composed of Magnesium metal (atomic weight 24.312 )

lightweight, cheap and has a high standard potential. These fuel cells are also
generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy storage is made possible by
the fact that a protective film is naturally produced over the positive anode.
However this decreases once some of the energy has been released from the cell.
Hence it is not ideal to be used in a situation where over a long period of time there
are times when the cell is not being used. This is part of the reason why lithium

My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have
never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always
found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any
other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression
in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my
point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say.
This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my
mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider
myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be
critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like
the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening for me. I assume I am
being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look
over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The irony of all
of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft
contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal
from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of
my grammar and proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and
English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism
Russian Negotiation Report Essay
Russian Negotiation Report (Director of the Archives)
1. What, in general, did you learn about negotiation from the simulation? What
surprised you? What would you do differently?
The pub was chosen to be the place to meet. It was meant to be a friendly place
with drinks so that barriers would be broken. Of course, given it was just a
simulation and we actually knew each other as friends, I m guessing the real world
scenario would be slightly different, or at least the effect of choosing a friendly
place would have different impact than I would imagine. That being said, I did
notice that in an environment with a lot of background noise (I remember a
basketball game was on), people tend to speak loudly, which leads them to ... Show

I didn t care much about whether the money comes directly from Pipeline or from the
Russian Government internally. All I cared about was scaling the $10 service I
demanded to at least $3,000,000, given we had from 300,000 to 400,000 tapes in the
archive.
It s also worth mentioning that I had a secondary strategy that didn t work very
well. I planned to come up with believable intangible demands that will hopefully
make Pipeline uncomfortable to the point that they are willing to remove some of
these demands in exchange for raising the service fees or the money paid to the
Russian Government in general. One example of these believable intangible
demands was: Printing the Russian Archive Institution s logo on the cover of every
CD published. Nice, right!? The bad news to this dirty trick was that this was a
complete simulation. These intangible demands didn t mean anything to our fellow
simulators, and they simply agreed to every single demand with out any hesitation. I
really wonder if this plan would really work in real life negotiations.
3. How did the concepts of process, power (structural and/or personal), interests, and
/or mutual gains, etc. actually occur in the simulation?
It was very obvious that the Russians had the absolute power. Pipeline tried very hard
explaining and describing about the superiority of their technology in the market.
They kept saying they were the best by a great margin over their competitors. To
Samsung Of Samsung Galaxy Note
Would anyone have think about using a smartphone that does not have a flat
screen? In this September 2014, Samsung introduced a new type of Samsung
Galaxy Note Series called Galaxy Note Edge. It is a smartphone which looks
similar to Galaxy Note 4, but has a curved right edge that has its own behavior and
purpose. Almost a year has been past already since the Galaxy Note 4 came out.
Many Galaxy fans were waiting for this. They even got more excited when Samsung
presented their unexpected new Galaxy Note Edge. Now, the Galaxy Note fans are
in trouble because they have to choose between Galaxy Note 4, which is reliable and
credible, and Galaxy Note Edge, which is fresh and new. Many other mobile
companies are paying sharp attention to this new model since the phone looks totally
different than previous phones. It might change the market trend completely.
Now, Samsung can be sure that they are one of the major mobile phone markets in
the world; the company sold most mobile phone in 2012, accounting for 22 percent
of the market. Samsung s mobile market success starts when the company brings out
the idea of brand new touch screen smartphone in 2008. Samsung releases their first
Galaxy S Series, S stand for success, in March 2010 which was the company s first
actual attempt to take on the iPhone; iPhone was the most popular and number one
selling smartphone in that time. Later, Samsung becomes success at growing its
company as a major mobile company by launching Galaxy S2, S3, and
Elements Of Characters In Prisoners, Sicario And Arrival
Dramas are films with realistic plots, settings, characters, and situations. Dramas tend
to be driven and somewhat dependent on powerful actor portrayals and good
direction, rather than CGI effects or action. Dramas tend to include characters that are
complex and well developed throughout their films. But perhaps one of the most key
elements in dramas are the themes of intense and real struggle centered around the
human condition. These themes can be expressed overtly through the plot and story
or symbolically through several different film elements. Denis Villeneuve is a
director whose all but mastered the art of creating dramatic films, consistently making
films that become exemplary models for what dramafilms should evoke in an
audience. His three films Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival do not fall outside of this
classification. Each of these are unique in their own respect, yet Denis Villeneuve
uses several different thematic elements, particularly color, in all three to craft
complex symbols and commentary that reside deep in the recesses of each film s
narrative.
The first film, Prisoners, is about two regular, All American families whose lives are
flipped upside down when the daughters of each family goes missing. Most of the
film centers around the investigation and how members of each family cope with
their situation. The basic plot of Prisoners isn t very original nor unique to be quite
honest, however it s unique use of lighting, cinematography and profound
Jimmy Carter Failures
Jimmy Carter, the 39th president, was a very simple and relatable man from
Plains, Georgia. His ideals appealed to the Southern democrats. Washington was in
chaos after the resignation of Nixon and the citizens of America were tiered of the
government s drama. This is what made Carter so popular in the 1976 election.
Carter appealed to America because he was an outsider to Washington. He also
wanted to comply with what the people wanted for America; Carter sought to
portray himself as a man of the people ( Jimmy Carter , 2009). He used the
Watergate scandal to his advantage. He promised America he would always be

The War Of World War II
World War II was the most widespread war in history and it directly involved more
than 100 million people from over 30 countries. This war lasted from 1939 to
1945. The war pinned the Axis nations which were Germany, Italy, Japan versus the
Allied nations which were led by Britain and its Commonwealth nation, the Union
of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States. The Allies were victorious in
the War. It was one of the most significant periods of time in the 20th century. The
war resulted in many changes across the world including major advancement in
technology. The post war world changes also included the end of end of European
colonialism, the civil rights movement in the United States, and the modern
women s rights movement, as well as the programs for exploring outer space. Two
major superpowers emerged from World War II. This included the United States
and United Soviet Socialist Republics. These two countries entered into the Cold
War with each other which really defined the rest of the century. The effects of
WWII were not all positive. The war had a negative impact on many things
including the global economy, the growth of communism in China and the cold
war between United States and USSR which was why World War II was bad. The
negative impact was present across the world. Some believe that World War II was a
simple continuation of the First World War that had ended in 1918. Some others
believe that World War II started in 1931 when Japan seized
Examples Of Symbolic Interactionism In Tuesdays With
Morrie
In the novel tuesdays with Morrie, a man by the name of Mitch Albom goes to
visit his old sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, after hearing word that Morrie
was dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or most commonly known as
Lou Gehrig s disease. During their last few Tuesday meetings Morrie gave Mitch
serious advice on life death and everything in between. This paper will address
various concepts in sociologythat are portrayed in the novel with the help of the
symbolic interactionismperspective.
The symbolic interactionism perspective is best defined as society being the
product of everyday life experiences. Humans act a certain way toward things
based on the meanings they have for them, these meanings stem from social
interaction. Social interaction is the way people act with one another and how
they modify their behavior in the presence of others. The best example in the
novel that portrays the idea of social interaction is when Mitch observes that when
visitors come to see Morrie they go in happy prepared to bring up certain topics,
but at the end they come out sad. It is not that Morrie has taken pity on his visitors,
but rather encouraged them to talk about their own lives instead of focusing on
his. His example also ties in to the concept of role taking. Role taking is the ability
for an individual to place himself or herself in someone else s position. Ideally, it
would be presumed that since Morrie is the one suffering a slow and painful death
he would
Cosmopolitan Canopy Analysis
In cities all across America, people congregate in certain areas to either accomplish
daily tasks or just for personal gain. Whether one may know it or not, these places
can become refuges from the sometimes chaotic nature of reality even if it s for
less than an hour. The Reading Terminal Market in Center City, Philadelphia, serves
as just one place among many. There are people who rush either by foot or in their
cars to get to wherever their destination is outside, but the moment someone steps
through the entrance, the market itself transforms into its own domain.
Occasionally, whenever someone opens the door, you can hear the car horns and
shouts from people who are frustrated. However, when you just look at the market
and all it has to offer, all the stress from the day seems to melt away. In Elijah
Anderson s The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life, the
Reading Terminal Marketis a prime example. Through the atmosphere, people, and
personal first hand encounters, anyone could call the Reading TerminalMarket a
cosmopolitan canopy. To begin, it may be useful to get some insight of Anderson s
piece of cosmopolitan canopies. As defined by Anderson, a cosmopolitan canopy is
a place where people come together from all varying walks of life to take time to
themselves and away from their busy lives. It serves as a common ground for people
in a surrounding area through a common interest or activity. There is no evidence of
bigotry or tensions within this
Why Is Artemidorus The Most Honorable Man In Julius
Caesar
Artemidorus or Pindarus? Some of the most honorable people are some of the most
forgotten or irrelevant whereas some of the most corrupt are the most known. There
are more corrupt men than honorable men in the world. Without honorable men, the
world would overflow with corrupt people. The Tragedy of Julius Caesarhas both
honorable and corrupt men within the play. In my opinion, Artemidorus is the most
honorable man is the play, whereas Pindarus is the most corrupt man in the play. To
begin with, an honorable person is someone who can be trusted and are highly
respected by everyone. Honorable do the right thing even if it s the hardest thing to
do. Artemidorus is one of the most forgotten characters in the play, but plays a
significant role. Artemidorus is the most honorable man in the play. Artemidorus
writes a letter to Julius Caesartelling him about the conspiracy and names all the
conspirators. By doing this he is risking his life to protect the life of Julius Caesar,
because he is a devoted friend. Artemidorus then proceeds to go out and wait for
Caesar to pass by to give him the letter on his way to the Senate to be pronounced
King. This shows that no matter what the cost is, Artemidorus stands up for what he
believes in and has the best intentions in mind. Artemidorus writes in this letter that
despite the whole conspiracy going on, the gods are on Caesar s side. By telling him
this in the letter it shows that even when times are bad, he always has something

Soon enough, the government took away the use of paper money and replaced it
with taxes and financial incentives. Although the Tang and Song had this similar
achievement of credit, the empires had different forms of printing as well. The
innovations of woodblock printing and movable type printing were revolutionary
during the Tang and Song empire, with the invention of woodblock printing
originating in the Tang empire, and movable type originating in the Song empire.
Woodblock printing was a process of block printing on paper , and became
widespread across China after Tang influence. Due to this widespread influence, the
Song empire made a technical change to woodblock printing, and created the
movable type method. This method allows the mass production of test preparation
books as well as an increase in the obtainability of printed books.
A political achievement similarity the Tang and Song empire share is experiencing
a change in empire size. The Tang empire, originating in Central Asia had extended
its power into Inner Asia, causing the empire to increase in size dramatically. Soon
enough, the Tang were defeated by an army of Arabs, Turks, and Tibetans, which
prevented the Tang from expanding their empire westward, resulting in growth to
cease. The Song empire, also experiencing a change in empire size, had to shift south

Cesar Chavez And The Civil Rights Movement
There is no such thing as defeat in nonviolence.
When the depression hit in August 1929, millions of people were left jobless. Many
Mexican Americans fled to the fields for a job, working for growers who ignored
their rights and gave paltry pay. Cesar Chavez and his family lost their family store
and decided to go to America. They began the drive to California with only $40 of
savings. His family quickly went to work in the fields, moving around frequently to
find work. After Cesar Chavez s father was injured in a car accident, Cesar dropped
out of 8th grade to work in the fields full time. He worked for a few years until he

Companies began trying to stop the UFW from boycotting lettuce and other

growers will sign contracts with the UFW. After three years of UFW
Daylight Savings Research Paper
The Effectiveness of Daylight Savings Daylight savings is the act of setting clocks
back an hour in March and setting them back in November; this is done as way to
reduce the consumption of energy. Many claim that daylight savings has proven
effective in reducing the usage in energy and helpful in other areas such as safety.
However, others claim that daylight savings has not made an impact on energy
usage and that it can affect the way people function. While daylight savings has
proven effective in some areas, daylight savings should not be continued because of
the individual effects it has on people s mood and behavior. To begin with, daylight
savings has not been proven effective due to the little evidence there is in how energy

The Effects Of Digital Media On Child Development
Throughout the years, technology has impacted our daily lives. Specifically, digital
media, which is our smart phones, laptops, video games, and anything else that is
computerized. We rely on digital media through everyday tasks because it has proven
to be beneficial in navigating and connecting us with the world, however there is
great debate whether our technology has any detrimental effect on our cognitive
development and skills. As we know, technology has become a great part of our
identity. Although, there is evidence that digital media has various benefits and risks
for our cognition. Nevertheless, it remains a topic of discussion since technology
continues to thrive and become part of our daily routine.
Chassiakos and colleagues (2016) discusses the costs and benefits of digital and
social media use in children and adolescents. There are various ways digital and
social media may impact the child s development. The authors explain that digital
media may improve cognitive and social development for young children depending
on the amount of exposure, type of digital content, and active parental guidance.
Additionally, the authors explain how digital media advocates social engagement and
community that helps teenager s development and self esteem. However, the authors
provide plenty of evidence that the use of digital and social media may be linked to
the risk of obesity, cognitive development, safety, mental health, behavioral risks, and
sleep deprivation. For instance,

The Role of Oracles, and Dreams in Herodotus The History
Throughout Herodotus The History, Oracles, and dreams play an important role.
While the gods have almost no presence throughout the book, the Oracles and/or
dreams are linked to many of the major events. We first encounter the Oracles in
Book I, when Croesus asks the Oracles at Delphi if he should attack the Persians, the
Oracle replies telling him (in a very ambiguous way) that if he fights, he will destroy
a great empire (7.12). Unbeknownst to Croesus, the empire he will destroy will be
his own. However, this answer from the Oracle is one of the things that convinces
Croesus to attack Persia, in a manner jumpstarting the ... Show more content on

Dreams also play a particular role in Herodotus The History. Like the Oracles,
dreams influence people to make certain decisions. And like the situations with the
Oracles, fate also plays a role. These people had these specific dreams because they
were fated to make said decisions. The dreams, possibly, were the only ways to
convince them, or to ensure that fate run its course.
So was the case with Astyages, who dreamt of his daughter, Mandane, making
water so greatly that she filled all his city and flooded...all of Asia (1.107).
Astyages immediately went to visit the Magi who were dream interpreters. Fearing
that this meant she would have more powerful offspring, he married her, not to a
Mede, but to a lesser, Persian man. However, fate would not back down. After his
daughter was married to the Persian, Astyages had another dream. ...It seemed to
him that out of his daughter s privy parts there grew a vine, and the vine shaded all
Asia (1.108). Astyages again went to dream interpreters among the Magi, who
suggested that this dream meant that Mandane who was now, in fact, pregnant would
have a child who would become king in the place of Astyages. This is the point in
the story where fate really comes into play.
Much like the story of Oedipus, attempting to control or otherwise act in a way
opposed to, fate seems to be exactly what allows for fate to run its course. Astyages
takes the child, a son, when it is born and

I think Calpurnia is a good mother figure because the kids appreciate her more, and
their love for her is stronger. I think that is most important. As Alexandria comes in
she is super awkward, does not know how to make a good conversation. Scout
starts to notice that especially. If you cannot talk to your supposedly mother figure,
then what is the point. Atticus says how she needs more feminine around the
house saying she is getting older so she needs advice on clothes and boys. With
Alexandria I feel scout will not get that. They mention how Alexandria fits in to
Maycomb really well, but does not fit in with Scout and Jem. Now Calpurnia the
kids were always exited to see her, as with Alexandria they did not want her to live
with them. Alexandria thinks Calpurnia is too harsh on the children, but kids need
discipline sometimes. In the end they always say how they need Calpurnia, so it is
an obvious Calpurnia is the mother figure Scout and Jem

The Idea Of Vengeance In Homer s Odyssey
Vengeance happens every single day. Ever since the attack on the World Trade
Center tragically occurred on September 11, 2001, the United States of America
targeted and pursued the man who was responsible for the attack: Osama Bin Laden.
Ten years later, the United States of America succeeded locating and killing Osama
bin Laden; as well as avenging the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001, and
the soldiers who gave their lives protecting the United States of America. The concept
of vengeance has been shown in movies, television, and literature. In Western dramas,
vengeance is one of the main concepts portrayed in Greek literature, particularly in
Aeschylus s Agamemnon. Aeschylus s Agamemnon is a Greek tragedy that centers
on the protagonist, Clytemnestra; who seeks vengeance against her husband,
Agamemnon. Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s eldest daughter,
Iphigenia, to escape the wrath of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Thus, the concept of
vengeance affects justice, sacrifice, and forgiveness. The concept of vengeance is
indicated in several Greek plays. The concept of vengeance is demonstrated in
Aeschylus s Agamemnon, Euripides Medea, and Homer s The Iliad and the Odyssey.
Aeschylus s Agamemnon is the first installment of Aeschylus s The Oresteia, that
begins the cycle of vengeance with the murder of Agamemnon. Despite the stigma of
vengeance, it s as natural to the human species as love and sex. In art and culture,
everyone roots for the
Reflection Of Jeremiah
Jeremiah deals with the reality that he was groomed and chosen for his position
before the Lord. He grew up in Anathoth(Jer. 1:1), which if you look at the history
of Israel was where the Solomon banished the old Priest Abiathar (1 Kings 2:26 27)
to, so you can guarantee that there was education based on the old ousted priesthood
in Jeremiah s teaching in Anathoth. Which would have contributed to his theology of
state. However, being that he was groomed for this position, identified throughout his
call narrative in Jeremiah 1:4 10, he was setup to be this voice of the Lordto the
people. Now, while you may say that Jeremiah was different because of his special
role as a prophet, and while I would agree that does play into an extent, the role that
we as Gods people are to be in the world is that of a prophetic voice for those who
need to hear the Lord. Accompanying people who are going to live out the values of
God and speak with the insight and revelation of the Lord will be surely met with
hostility and rejection. While this idea might be surprising to some it also reveals
the lack of biblical literacy because this was that case with all the prophets (those
who spoke on behalf of the Lord) and to the most important representative Jesus
himself. Now, I will also say that not every situation gives rise to this hostility, but it
is going to definitely something that Jeremiah has to be warned about and even built
up by the Lord to defend against it, however only in the

strength in his experiment because he was where it began in the story. A weakness
he had was that he never seemed to be wrong when it comes to finding where Moses
and his followers ended up and to see if the Exodusreally happened. Another strength
was that he had the Stella of Ahmose. This helped explain what the Exodus was.
Pharaoh Ahmose s was an important person to find because in the exodus it was said
that Ahmose went with Moses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because to me it seemed more dramatic than an actual experiment.
Throughout the video he would say no one knew something that happened in the
Exodus, or some proof of the exodus was never found until now. I feel that it was
not impressive. I feel like he was a bit goofing off with the drama of the video.
Also, when he brought up the Ark of Covenant and where it was place lasted. He
had no solid proof as to where it was. No one knows where the Ark of Covenant is
since the exodus and I believe if we knew where the exact one from the Exodus is,
then we will be able to clearly stated that the Exodus happened. The Ark of
Covenant is an important artifact when dealing with the Exodus. There were many
areas in this video where I could not stay focused while watching it because of what
I feel like was cliche to do to be dramatic when they thought they found something.
In all the dramatic scenes, there was not one moment where he did not find
something. This documentary just seem too good to be true. Some aspects of this
video just did not really fit in. It jumped around a bit I feel. That made it a little
confusing which did not make it compelling for me. Although I did enjoy watching
the movie and learning a few things from
Themes And Symbols In Tamburlaine
Tamburlaine concentrates all his efforts on two objectives: the achievement of his
empire, and marriage with Zenocrate. During the play, his two intentions are seen as
complementary aspects. The use of the same category of images both for Zenocrate
and for thrones and empires has the effect of keeping them in a close relationship
from the beginning, anticipating the explicit recognition of their connection in the
last act. In his first dialogue with her, Tamburlaine pictures her as his future queen,
Enchased with precious jewels of mine own / More rich and valurous than Zenocrate

In his opinion, she is fairer than rocks of pearl and precious stone. (p.34) And during

There are some critics suspecting that Marlowe was inclined to introduce names in
the raw, straight from his note books into the speech. They suggest some kind of
effort as if these names were trying to convince the writer himself and the readers.
Marlowe s mood seems logical and scientific rather than imaginative. But there are
passages in which the imagery gives the measure of part of Marlowe s poetry and
Tamburlaine abounds in long passages of majestic description which, although they
cannot be considered poetry, have a power that represents the highest of rhetoric.
The first of these is the picture which Tamburlaine presents to Zenocrate of her life
as his empress: the swift seeds, the Median silk, the jewels, the ivory sledge and the
frozen mountain tops that dissolve at the sight of
Endothermia Condition In Dinosaurs
The reading passage discusses an interesting topic about the possibility of the
endothermia condition in dinosaurs and provides three reasons for support.
However, the lecture cast doubts on the claim made by the article and opposes
each of the reasons of the reading passage. First, the reading passage sustains the
idea of endothermic dinosaurs on the fossils discovered in Polar Regions, meaning
that only this type of animals could survived in such low temperatures. On the
contrary, the lecture refutes this idea by arguing that the area where the fossils were
discovered was warmer back in those days when dinosaurs were alive. Moreover, as
many reptiles today that live in areas with cold winters, the dinosaurs could migrate
or hibernate escaping
The Syrian Vigil
On the day of February 12, 2015, the then called the Islamic State of Syria released
a video of themselves savagely beheading 21 Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Christians
in which were kidnapped. This event shook my friends and family, as I myself am a
Coptic Christian. This was not the first time these barbarians have murdered simply
due to the fact that their prey if you will, did not share their beliefs. These incredibly
faithful individuals were willing to die by the hand of the sword in order to preserve
their doctrine. This could not go unnoticed, and the entire Coptic Community had
decided that this cannot keep happening. The youth and I at the local Coptic
Orthodox in Daytona Beach, Floridaheld a gathering and decided to hold a vigil in...

As great as the entire vigil turned out, it certainly was no walk in the park. Many
hours were spent planning and we paid a pretty penny. We had to rent out the
bandshell, print out hundreds of flyers and thank you cards, and making numerous
phone calls to many different people and businesses. The last second location
change wasn t pleasant either. However, it was unquestionably worth it. We also
were faced with the challenge of people who were not understanding of our cause,
as some even cursed at us. On the other hand, all our troubles seemed to fade, as the
love and support from our community was felt, and we were able to send the money
and other donations back to Egypt to the friends and family who were in mourning.
Another significant reward was the small sense of self fulfillment, in which you
worked so hard in order to preach and to try and make an impact on a global
The Big Lebowski And Fargo Film Analysis
1.Analyze elements of postmodernism and the themes of the film illustrated in these
clips from CHILDREN OF MEN.
Children of Men is a perfect example of Postmodernism in film. It features
apocalyptic stories and setting, shown in both of the clips. In the first clip, the
opening scene of the movie, we are introduced to this world of infertility and
grayness. Even before we see anything, audio of news reports tell us of the world to
expect in the film. In a dreary, gray toned cafГ©, people gather and watch in silence
as the news tells of the death of the youngest person alive. The somber hopelessness
and fear of the ever approaching end of humanity is clear. Theo is detached and cool

Political Beliefs Of Shia And Sunnis
Sunni and Shia are part of the 1.6 billion Muslims followers across the world. After
all, Shia are a minority group that have been recently attacked by Sunnis. Shias are
being targeted and killed for their beliefs. Yet, Sunni and Shia have many similar
beliefs and customs, but their main difference is based on who should be the political
figure. When the Sunni and Shia chose different political figures, they also came
upon different ideology. Soon as the prophet Muhammad died in the seventh century,
he did not designate a political ruler after his death. Thus, the country was left
without an appointed figure leaving the Muslim community without a caliphate.
Consequently, the people had to decide who was going to be appointed as the leader
of the Muslim community. The Sunni believed that Abu Bakr should be the leader
and was given the popularity of the vote, but Shia believed that the family of the
prophet should be the leader. However, Shia argued that only Aliwas qualified to
uphold the spiritual values that underpinned the whole future direction of Islam.
(Rogerson 5) The disagreement of who should be the leader grew to the
establishment of Shia, who supported Ali. Shia believed that Ali should have been
the first caliphinstead of Abu Bakr being the first. Shia came to the conclusion that
Sunni falsified hadith and Abu angered Fatima, in which Fatima was part of
Muhammad causing Shia to believe that he does not have right to become first caliph.
As a result, that left

The Romantic Er The Victorian Period And The Romantic
Period
Earlier in The Victorian Period, also known as the Victorian era began in the year
1837. It was also an important period, because it was the year that Victoria became
Queen. Also years passed and the Victorian Period ended with her death in 1901.
History says that the Victorian period is one of the longest periods ever. The Queen
Victoria lasted 63 long years and lasted longer than many British monarchs. Despite
the fact that the Romantic period lasted less than the Victorian. The Victorian period
is said that lasted twice as the Romantic period. The Victorian period was a very
influential movement. For example a Victorian period novel is A ChristmasCarol by
Charles Dickens. The Victorian period even though it ended it is steel known in
modern days. In the year 1843 there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

gambles and happily enjoying time away from her family. Later on Gwendolyn
which is the name of the protagonist finds a letter from her mother and when she
reads the letter, her life changed from better to worst. In fact the author had
problems at first; she took a man s name to begin with. Eliot said that girls were
not taken seriously as they take men. She believed that if she changes her name she
would get more respect from other people. Her novel was great but some people do
not like the novel because it caused a lot of confusion and problems. In conclusion
Robert Louis Stevenson literary career did not begin till 1878. More importantly his
first success was with Treasure Island in 1833. What Robert did changed his life
and became a famous writer. To conclude Charles Dickens of all the three authors I
have, he is the most who made an effect. To summarize Dickens work he is the best
in my opinion in writing novels. Dickens work is known to everyone in the literature
culture. The characters in A Christmas Carol had a lot of
Puerto Rico Territory
Why do so many people argue about how Puerto Rico became a territory? Several
historians believe that Puerto Rico was made a US Territory by The Foraker Act of
1900. Other historians say that The Jones Shafroth Act of 1917 made it a US
Territory. Some might also say it was World War I. This essay will tell you about,
Puerto Rico, all three things, and also which one is truly correct. Before starting to
truly explain things, let me explain how this whole thing started.
At the beginning is how Puerto Rico was discovered. Puerto Rico was found by
Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas, when he was trying
to find his fort on Hispaniola called La Navidad which was destroyed. Then Juan
Ponce de LГ©on stumbled across Puerto Rico again while on his search to find the
mystical Fountain of Youth . Then for the next three hundred years, Spain will rule
Puerto Rico with an iron fist until 1898 when the Spanish American War broke out
and the USA got Puerto Rico for themselves. The Spanish American War was a
three month war that started on April 25, 1898 and ended on August 12, 1898. The
war was started when the USS Maine blew up on February 15, 1898 by a supposed
underwater mine. The Americans blamed the Spanish even though there is no
evidence leading to that the USS Maine was blown up by an underwater mine. If

Puerto Rican House of Representatives would now have 39 representatives and 19
senators. It also gave Puerto Ricans a bill of rights and allowed the people elect the
Resident Commissioner instead of the President choosing. But on the downside, the
actual Puerto Rican citizenship started decreasing, the reason why is because as the
US citizenship started increasing, the Puerto Rican citizenship started
Internship At National Load Despatch Centre ( Nldc ),...
ABSTRACT
Internship at National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC), Power System Operation
Corporation Ltd can be divided into two periods. In starting weeks, I get the
overview of Indian power sector, understood the Indian power grid, functions of
NLDC and many technical terms but later the project Short TermLoad Forecasting
(STLF) using ANN Techniques was assigned to me. I have to forecast the load for
Delhi using ANN Technique.
Load forecasting is the technique for prediction of electrical load. It is much need
for a generating company to know about the market load demand in a deregulated
market for generating near to accurate power. If the generation is not sufficient to
fulfill the demand, there would be problem of irregular supply and in case of excess
generation the generating company will have to bear the loss. There are various
factors which influence the behavior of the consumer load. These factors can be
categorized as Time factor, weather, economy and random disturbances. Accurate
forecasting can maximize the profit of producers and for consumers, it can maximize
their utilities. STLF plays an important role in electric power system operation and
planning. An accurate load forecasting not only reduces the generation cost in a
power system, but also provides a good principle of effective operation. It is trained
using back propagation algorithm and tested. The results obtained from neural
network are presented and the results show that the neural network based

Crafting a discussion essay involves thorough research to gather relevant information and a deep understanding of the topic to present a comprehensive analysis. One of the challenges is organizing the essay in a logical structure, ensuring that each paragraph contributes to the overall argument and maintains a coherent flow. • 2. Lady Macbeth s Manipulation Of Lady Macbeth Imagine feeling in control; like every choice made was your own doing and what you envisioned. However this is all an illusion. In reality there is someone else, whispering every move made into your ear and steering you in a specific direction. They are like a puppet master. They have dominance over your thoughts and movements without you realizing it. This is the way Lady Macbethmanipulates Macbeth in William Shakespeares play Macbeth. She persuades him to act in certain ways, and when he falters, she undermines him until he decides that he needs to do what she has told him. Lady Macbeth uses Macbeth s temper and frail mindthat is susceptible to temptation, in order to maneuver her way into power. From the very beginning of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth instills ideas into Macbeth s head; knowing he will do what ever she wishes because he is devoted to her. The mutual passion shared between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth depends on their shared dream of greatness (Bloom 187). This passion is what drives Lady Macbeth to... • 3. The Factors Of Political Socialization Cheryl Lee Robin Datta November 13, 2015 Exam #2 Similar to many of the things we are introduced to growing up as humans, our political knowledge is one of the things that does not derive from one specific source. Our thoughts on politics is constantly evolving and maturing as we encounter different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political socialization include our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment contributes to our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the fundamentals of American government and politics, and lastly the media continuously shapes our view of the government. All three of these agents, are crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many intellects will argue that family is one of the most important agents in regards to political socialization (cite). This comes as no surprise, as children we are incapable of making rational decisions for ourselves. Thus, our parents and family members are tasked with making the best possible choices for us instead. In fact, as children we want to please our parents so we are receptive to their views, this includes political beliefs. (Stockwell, Chapter 6: Public Opinion, Political Socialization, and the Media.) Furthermore, our family can also have an effect on how we view politics in our future. Studies show Children whose parents
  • 4. Analysis Of Coyote And The Enemy Alien Othering: As Shown in Thomas King s Coyote and the Enemy Alien and the Canadian Government In the short story Coyote and the Enemy Alien by Thomas King, there is a common theme of othering that is demonstarted in the story. Othering is defined as to view or treat (a person or group of people) as intrinsically different from and alien to oneself (idk how to cite this). The idea of othering is expressed through the Coyote s words and actions. Othering has been a significant part of the Canadian society with the inauguration of the Indian Act and unethical treatment of the Indigenous people of Canada due to the introduction of the new legislation. In Coyote and the Enemy Aliens by Thomas King, the main character, the Coyote, has the most important job in the world (King 55) as he states it is more important than being truthful (King 55), reliable (King 55), fair (King 56), and generous (King 56). The Coyote s job is a direct parallel to the job of an Indian Agent when it was introduced in 1867. The Coyote s job is to confiscate and sell any contraband items that the Enemy Aliens have in their possession or any items that the Coyote believes is unnecessary for the Enemy Aliens to have. Similarly, the job of an Indian Agent had the same duties. An Indian Agent had the right and role to regulate everything that happened on a reserve, including confiscating property and relocating problematic Indigenous people away from their home and family. With the Coyote s ability to confiscate Enemy Alien property, especially the family heirlooms, this can cause depletion of Enemy Alien traditions and heritage can become lost. The loss of tradition was the goal of the Canadian Government when the Indian Act was introduced, assimilation and civilisation of First Nationspeople (Gov website). Eminently, King s installation of the Coyote s job appropriates the position that the Indian Agents portrayed in the history of Canada. It exhibits how much unquestionable authority and dominance the government had over the Indigenous society and how much the introduction of the Indian Act had on how the Indigenous people were scrutinized by society. With othering, it is viewing someone as intrinsically different
  • 5. Moral Dilemmas Of The Louisiana Purchase The purchase of Louisiana between France and the United States changed America forever. However, the Louisiana Purchase posed several significant moral dilemmas for President Thomas Jefferson because of Jefferson s belief in strict constructionism , the government conflicts that arose, and the concern of how the people and states would come into the Union. Jefferson s plans for the nation were dependent upon westward expansion for educated American farmers. He wanted access to international markets to create the ideal society of agriculturist. His enduring vision was altered and crushed, however, when France repossessed control of Louisiana in 1801. The ambitious Napoleon Bonaparte, who had risen to power during the French Revolution, threatened to block American access to the New Orleans port on the Mississippi River. This port played a crucial key in the American business. New American settlements west of the Appalachian Mountains were dependent on the Mississippi River to transport their goods. The then president, Thomas Jefferson understood that blocking access to New Orleans was a grave threat to the interests of Americans. So what did Jefferson do? Well when the vast territory presented itself, he knew he could not pass it up. Jefferson always stated his strong belief that the federal government powers should be followed strictly. In fact, Article IV of the Constitution states that new states could be added, but made no provisions for the taking of foreign territories ( Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase ). Being a strict constructionist, he strongly felt that any powers not specifically given to the federal government were reserved for the interest of individual sovereign states. Jefferson followed the Constitution religiously and when he purchased Louisiana it challenged his whole belief on it. He previously argued with Alexander Hamilton about the Presidential Powers as presented (The Moral Dilemma). Needless to say, he was caught in the act and people took notice. Many of those in the Federalist Party believed that if anyone else were to do the same thing he would have objectified on Constitutional grounds. Some New England Federalists even began to talk of secession since their political

While the Revolutionary War was going on, so was the Age of Reason in American literature. During the Revolutionary War, the future citizens of the United States were divided on whether or not to fight the British. Political pamphlets were given out to get the American people to support fighting the British and once most of America agreed to fight the British the decision still had to be made by the president and delegates at the Virginia Convention of 1775. Patrick Henry, a representative at this convention, persuaded the delegates to fight the British in his very famous speech at the convention. In his speech, he used passionate words and phrases such as the most famous, ??give me liberty, or give me death? (Henry 90). Soon after his speech, the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in Lexington, Massachusetts. The writers of this age also wrote autobiographies and essays. In the essay ?Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America? by Benjamin Franklin, Franklin examines the word ?savages? and what it really means. He subtly criticizes the settlers who refer to the Native Americans as ?savages? and points out that the Native Americans are less savage than the settlers. The Revolutionary War not only brought about the independence of our country, but also encouraged free expression. After the turmoil of the Revolution, the people needed to relax and forget about their worries. The writers of the Age of Romantics knew this and for the first time in

Smart Card is the perfect media that can be used as a health card due to its small size, secure, capability of digitizing a huge amount of personal and medical data [4]. Some attempts have been done by researchers to develop a personal portable healthcare record smart cards and a corresponding framework to simplify maintenance and transfer of patient records [9]. Researchers in the U.K. have created MyCare, a smart card with a fold out USB plug that can hold a patient s medical history. MyCare was developed with open source that enables it to run on different computers and operating systems. Data is protected through PINs and encryption, with a higher level of encryption planned for further stages in the development process [5][6]. These smart card projects work better in countries with nationalized health care. In the US For example, competition among hospitals is a barrier to a smart card system [5]. Smart card technology was not widely spread due to lack of standards (Dash, 2001); the communications between a smart card and smart card reader. The cards also need to be updated constantly which would be hard to enforce [10]. For smart cards, user mobility is only possible if every machine that the user access has a smart card reader attached. The machine must support the same standard smart card reader interfaces or use the same proprietary smart card reader [11]. Research Statement Due to the barriers of smart cards usage including, the high cost value, the

The first fuel cell was invented by Sir William Robert Grove in 1839. Hydrogen is the fuel of destiny mainly due to it s elevated transformation efficiency, salvaging, and non contaminating nature. Hydrogen plays a higher role in the sustainability of life and can be employed to cause energy. Hydrogen can also be manufactured using several various processes such as electrolysis, solar energy, and can be assembled, both thermochemically and biologically. Electrolysis is the process of using a dynamic current to isolate water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Unfortunately this procedure has more intensive energy. The electrolysis process is pretty valuable since it involves high energy consumption. The energy used to generate a current in the electrolysis process is pretty valuable since it involves high energy consumption. The energy is also limited from fossil fuels like oil, natural gas or coal. The electrical charge that is tested to water will shatter the chemical bonds between hydrogen and oxygen atoms. What were the forces and actions that made them successful in seizing power in October/November 1917? Prior to the 1917 Revolutions, there was constant unsettlement within Russia; there was a struggle for food, a struggle for economic control and a struggle for a stable government. The February Revolution brought an end to Tsar Nicholas II reign and emerged was a Provisional Government based on democratic ideals. Despite the Provisional Government s success in implementing civil liberties, the Duma kept Russia in the First World War which not only continued the depletion of natural resources, but also heightened the discontent from citizens among all social classes. I plan to add a strike system for the ones who have not caught along to getting the breathalyzers. Strike one with have to set a meeting with a financial person to see if the problem is the person not having the right amount of funds. Strike three will have to deal with the driver and their license getting suspended for not following the rules after financial help and an extra deadline to get the device
  • 13. Comparing The Philosophies Of Milton Friedman And Homer Dixon Milton Friedman and Homer Dixon both had their own idea of what the role of a business had in society concerning social responsibilities. Friedman was on the side of the economic perspective, while Dixon was arguing more for the natural and environmental standpoint. Freidman purposed that the only responsibility for a business was to increase profits, the basic fundamental aspect of business. He believed that, only people have responsibilities, a corporationis an artificial person and may have artificial responsibilities, but business as a whole cannot have responsibilities (Freidman). This is a very technical type of view since Friedman manipulates the idea that a business is not a human being where they have responsibilities. The comparison results were promising, indicating that this method is applicable for DDoS strength evaluation in router or a separate unit communicating with the router. The proposed scheme has an advantage over traditional packet marking schemes in terms of scalability and storage requirements in victim or intermediate routers. The method stores only short term information of traffic entropy in order to detect the DDoS attack. The research also presented experimental analysis to claim that the method is able to implement accurate trace back in a large scale DDoS attack scenario within a few seconds. In addition to variation scheme, a few other methods also exist to trace back DDoS sources. The classification is given below. In packet marking schemes, the idea is to trace the path through uplink routers up to the attack sources. It is a common method employed in trace back implementations but contains inherent drawbacks. In the packet logging scheme, the information of each packet is stored at routers through which the packet is passed. The stored information of the packet contains constant header fields and first 8 bytes of the payload which are hashed through many hash functions to produce digests. These digests are stored by DGAs using bloom filter, a space efficient data structure. In the pushback scheme, the router under congestion sends the rate limit request to upstream routers. It determines from which routes the stream of packets is arrived and devises an attack signature for such traffic. The signature belongs to the aggregate traffic having common property such as the same destination address. A mechanism called

All fuel cells contain a positive anode, a negative cathode and an electrolyte to carry the charged particles through the cell. They also contain a catalyst which will increase the rate of the reaction occurring. The electricity produced can then used to power various appliances. This, in turn, creates a circuit with the current continually flowing in and out of the cell until the reaction ceases . Materials Involved in the production of Magnesium Air Batteries Anode As mentioned previously the anode is composed of Magnesium metal (atomic weight 24.312 ) and is oxidised to produce electrons. The reason this metal is used because it is lightweight, cheap and has a high standard potential. These fuel cells are also generally very durable and can be easily stored. Easy storage is made possible by the fact that a protective film is naturally produced over the positive anode. However this decreases once some of the energy has been released from the cell. Hence it is not ideal to be used in a situation where over a long period of time there are times when the cell is not being used. This is part of the reason why lithium batteries are

  • 20. My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism

What would you do differently? The pub was chosen to be the place to meet. It was meant to be a friendly place with drinks so that barriers would be broken. Of course, given it was just a simulation and we actually knew each other as friends, I m guessing the real world scenario would be slightly different, or at least the effect of choosing a friendly place would have different impact than I would imagine. It s also worth mentioning that I had a secondary strategy that didn t work very well. I planned to come up with believable intangible demands that will hopefully make Pipeline uncomfortable to the point that they are willing to remove some of these demands in exchange for raising the service fees or the money paid to the Russian Government in general. One example of these believable intangible demands was: Printing the Russian Archive Institution s logo on the cover of every CD published. Nice, right!? The bad news to this dirty trick was that this was a complete simulation. These intangible demands didn t mean anything to our fellow simulators, and they simply agreed to every single demand with out any hesitation. I really wonder if this plan would really work in real life negotiations. 3. How did the concepts of process, power (structural and/or personal), interests, and /or mutual gains, etc. actually occur in the simulation? These themes can be expressed overtly through the plot and story or symbolically through several different film elements. His three films Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival do not fall outside of this classification. Each of these are unique in their own respect, yet Denis Villeneuve uses several different thematic elements, particularly color, in all three to craft complex symbols and commentary that reside deep in the recesses of each film s narrative. The first film, Prisoners, is about two regular, All American families whose lives are flipped upside down when the daughters of each family goes missing. Examples Of Symbolic Interactionism In Tuesdays With Morrie In the novel tuesdays with Morrie, a man by the name of Mitch Albom goes to visit his old sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, after hearing word that Morrie was dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or most commonly known as Lou Gehrig s disease. During their last few Tuesday meetings Morrie gave Mitch serious advice on life death and everything in between. This paper will address various concepts in sociologythat are portrayed in the novel with the help of the symbolic interactionismperspective. The symbolic interactionism perspective is best defined as society being the product of everyday life experiences. Humans act a certain way toward things based on the meanings they have for them, these meanings stem from social interaction. Social interaction is the way people act with one another and how they modify their behavior in the presence of others. The best example in the novel that portrays the idea of social interaction is when Mitch observes that when visitors come to see Morrie they go in happy prepared to bring up certain topics, but at the end they come out sad. It is not that Morrie has taken pity on his visitors, but rather encouraged them to talk about their own lives instead of focusing on his. His example also ties in to the concept of role taking. Role taking is the ability for an individual to place himself or herself in someone else s position. Ideally, it would be presumed that since Morrie is the one suffering a slow and painful death he would

Whether one may know it or not, these places can become refuges from the sometimes chaotic nature of reality even if it s for less than an hour. The Reading Terminal Market in Center City, Philadelphia, serves as just one place among many. There are people who rush either by foot or in their cars to get to wherever their destination is outside, but the moment someone steps through the entrance, the market itself transforms into its own domain. Occasionally, whenever someone opens the door, you can hear the car horns and shouts from people who are frustrated. However, when you just look at the market and all it has to offer, all the stress from the day seems to melt away. In Elijah Anderson s The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life, the Reading Terminal Marketis a prime example. In my opinion, Artemidorus is the most honorable man is the play, whereas Pindarus is the most corrupt man in the play. To begin with, an honorable person is someone who can be trusted and are highly respected by everyone. Honorable do the right thing even if it s the hardest thing to do. Artemidorus is one of the most forgotten characters in the play, but plays a significant role. Artemidorus is the most honorable man in the play. Artemidorus writes a letter to Julius Caesartelling him about the conspiracy and names all the conspirators. By doing this he is risking his life to protect the life of Julius Caesar, because he is a devoted friend. Artemidorus then proceeds to go out and wait for Caesar to pass by to give him the letter on his way to the Senate to be pronounced King. This shows that no matter what the cost is, Artemidorus stands up for what he believes in and has the best intentions in mind. Artemidorus writes in this letter that despite the whole conspiracy going on, the gods are on Caesar s side. By telling him this in the letter it shows that even when times are bad, he always has something

And like the situations with the Oracles, fate also plays a role. These people had these specific dreams because they were fated to make said decisions. The dreams, possibly, were the only ways to convince them, or to ensure that fate run its course. So was the case with Astyages, who dreamt of his daughter, Mandane, making water so greatly that she filled all his city and flooded...all of Asia (1.107). Astyages immediately went to visit the Magi who were dream interpreters. Fearing that this meant she would have more powerful offspring, he married her, not to a Mede, but to a lesser, Persian man. Throughout Phoebe Prince s story a true authority figure appears to be missing entirely. Phoebe Prince, 15 years old, moved from County Clare in Ireland to South Hadleylooking to continue enjoying the teenage life. Only to come to find out, students in a little town could cause a wake of pain. The bullying became strong and ruthless. Some peers called her the Irish slut on social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). She constantly struggled with people in school knocking items out her hands, things thrown at her, and received threatening text messages. In the middle of January, Phoebe hit rock bottom. She became tormented and terrorized in the school library and hallways. That same day, Phoebe walked home from school and then suddenly, one of the instigators threw a Red Bull can as she drove by. Phoebe came home and hung herself in the stairwell defeating her pain. It didn t stop there. Students continued to post harshful
  • 38. The Idea Of Vengeance In Homer s Odyssey Vengeance happens every single day. Ever since the attack on the World Trade Center tragically occurred on September 11, 2001, the United States of America targeted and pursued the man who was responsible for the attack: Osama Bin Laden. Ten years later, the United States of America succeeded locating and killing Osama bin Laden; as well as avenging the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001, and the soldiers who gave their lives protecting the United States of America. The concept of vengeance has been shown in movies, television, and literature. In Western dramas, vengeance is one of the main concepts portrayed in Greek literature, particularly in Aeschylus s Agamemnon. Aeschylus s Agamemnon is a Greek tragedy that centers on the protagonist, Clytemnestra; who seeks vengeance against her husband, Agamemnon. Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s eldest daughter, Iphigenia, to escape the wrath of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Thus, the concept of vengeance affects justice, sacrifice, and forgiveness. The concept of vengeance is indicated in several Greek plays. The concept of vengeance is demonstrated in Aeschylus s Agamemnon, Euripides Medea, and Homer s The Iliad and the Odyssey. Aeschylus s Agamemnon is the first installment of Aeschylus s The Oresteia, that begins the cycle of vengeance with the murder of Agamemnon. Despite the stigma of vengeance, it s as natural to the human species as love and sex. In art and culture, everyone roots for the
  • 39. Reflection Of Jeremiah Jeremiah deals with the reality that he was groomed and chosen for his position before the Lord. He grew up in Anathoth(Jer. 1:1), which if you look at the history of Israel was where the Solomon banished the old Priest Abiathar (1 Kings 2:26 27) to, so you can guarantee that there was education based on the old ousted priesthood in Jeremiah s teaching in Anathoth. Which would have contributed to his theology of state. However, being that he was groomed for this position, identified throughout his call narrative in Jeremiah 1:4 10, he was setup to be this voice of the Lordto the people. Now, while you may say that Jeremiah was different because of his special role as a prophet, and while I would agree that does play into an extent, the role that we as Gods people are to be in the world is that of a prophetic voice for those who need to hear the Lord. Accompanying people who are going to live out the values of God and speak with the insight and revelation of the Lord will be surely met with hostility and rejection. While this idea might be surprising to some it also reveals the lack of biblical literacy because this was that case with all the prophets (those who spoke on behalf of the Lord) and to the most important representative Jesus himself. Now, I will also say that not every situation gives rise to this hostility, but it is going to definitely something that Jeremiah has to be warned about and even built up by the Lord to defend against it, however only in the
  • 40. Exodus Decoded Essay The main argument in Exodus Decoded was that the Exodus actually happened and is not just a story in the Bible. There were many strengths and weaknesses in Simcha Jacobovici s experiment. In the movie, he was excavating a site where Moses followers had lived and before going to the sacred land and that was a strength in his experiment because he was where it began in the story. A weakness he had was that he never seemed to be wrong when it comes to finding where Moses and his followers ended up and to see if the Exodusreally happened. Another strength was that he had the Stella of Ahmose. This helped explain what the Exodus was. Pharaoh Ahmose s was an important person to find because in the exodus it was said that Ahmose went with Moses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because to me it seemed more dramatic than an actual experiment. Throughout the video he would say no one knew something that happened in the Exodus, or some proof of the exodus was never found until now. I feel that it was not impressive. I feel like he was a bit goofing off with the drama of the video. Also, when he brought up the Ark of Covenant and where it was place lasted. He had no solid proof as to where it was. No one knows where the Ark of Covenant is since the exodus and I believe if we knew where the exact one from the Exodus is, then we will be able to clearly stated that the Exodus happened. The Ark of Covenant is an important artifact when dealing with the Exodus. There were many areas in this video where I could not stay focused while watching it because of what I feel like was cliche to do to be dramatic when they thought they found something. In all the dramatic scenes, there was not one moment where he did not find something. This documentary just seem too good to be true. Some aspects of this video just did not really fit in. It jumped around a bit I feel. That made it a little confusing which did not make it compelling for me. Although I did enjoy watching the movie and learning a few things from

During the play, his two intentions are seen as complementary aspects. They suggest some kind of effort as if these names were trying to convince the writer himself and the readers. Marlowe s mood seems logical and scientific rather than imaginative. But there are passages in which the imagery gives the measure of part of Marlowe s poetry and Tamburlaine abounds in long passages of majestic description which, although they cannot be considered poetry, have a power that represents the highest of rhetoric. The first of these is the picture which Tamburlaine presents to Zenocrate of her life as his empress: the swift seeds, the Median silk, the jewels, the ivory sledge and the frozen mountain tops that dissolve at the sight of

However, the lecture cast doubts on the claim made by the article and opposes each of the reasons of the reading passage. First, the reading passage sustains the idea of endothermic dinosaurs on the fossils discovered in Polar Regions, meaning that only this type of animals could survived in such low temperatures. On the contrary, the lecture refutes this idea by arguing that the area where the fossils were discovered was warmer back in those days when dinosaurs were alive. Moreover, as many reptiles today that live in areas with cold winters, the dinosaurs could migrate or hibernate escaping

After all, Shia are a minority group that have been recently attacked by Sunnis. Shias are being targeted and killed for their beliefs. Yet, Sunni and Shia have many similar beliefs and customs, but their main difference is based on who should be the political figure. When the Sunni and Shia chose different political figures, they also came upon different ideology. Soon as the prophet Muhammad died in the seventh century, he did not designate a political ruler after his death. Thus, the country was left without an appointed figure leaving the Muslim community without a caliphate. Consequently, the people had to decide who was going to be appointed as the leader of the Muslim community. The Sunni believed that Abu Bakr should be the leader and was given the popularity of the vote, but Shia believed that the family of the prophet should be the leader. However, Shia argued that only Aliwas qualified to uphold the spiritual values that underpinned the whole future direction of Islam. (Rogerson 5) The disagreement of who should be the leader grew to the establishment of Shia, who supported Ali. Shia believed that Ali should have been the first caliphinstead of Abu Bakr being the first. Shia came to the conclusion that Sunni falsified hadith and Abu angered Fatima, in which Fatima was part of Muhammad causing Shia to believe that he does not have right to become first caliph. As a result, that left

Other historians say that The Jones Shafroth Act of 1917 made it a US Territory. Some might also say it was World War I. This essay will tell you about, Puerto Rico, all three things, and also which one is truly correct. Before starting to truly explain things, let me explain how this whole thing started. At the beginning is how Puerto Rico was discovered. Puerto Rico was found by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas, when he was trying to find his fort on Hispaniola called La Navidad which was destroyed. Then Juan Ponce de LГ©on stumbled across Puerto Rico again while on his search to find the mystical Fountain of Youth . In starting weeks, I get the overview of Indian power sector, understood the Indian power grid, functions of NLDC and many technical terms but later the project Short TermLoad Forecasting (STLF) using ANN Techniques was assigned to me. I have to forecast the load for Delhi using ANN Technique. Load forecasting is the technique for prediction of electrical load. It is much need for a generating company to know about the market load demand in a deregulated market for generating near to accurate power. If the generation is not sufficient to fulfill the demand, there would be problem of irregular supply and in case of excess generation the generating company will have to bear the loss. There are various factors which influence the behavior of the consumer load. These factors can be categorized as Time factor, weather, economy and random disturbances. Accurate forecasting can maximize the profit of producers and for consumers, it can maximize their utilities. STLF plays an important role in electric power system operation and planning. An accurate load forecasting not only reduces the generation cost in a power system, but also provides a good principle of effective operation. It is trained using back propagation algorithm and tested. The results obtained from neural network are presented and the results show that the neural network based
