DISASTER
A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that seriously
disrupts the functioning of a community or society and
causes human, material, and economic or environmental
losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to
cope using its own resources. Though often caused by
nature, disasters can have human origins.
TYPES OF DISASTERS
HAZARD HUNT
1 2
Natural Man-Made
Earthquake Cyber-attacks
Drought Pollution
Floods and Flash Flood Explosions
Typhoons Civil Unrest
Landslide
Fire
Hazards Notes
1. Doorknob of CR 1 is
damaged
Replace old doorknob with a
new one.
2. LPG tank
Always turn off gas tank
when not in use.
3. Some tiles at the 2nd
floor of the house lift up
overtime
Replace tiles with new ones.
EARTHQUAKE
BEFORE
• Prepare a Go-Bag in case of evacuation.
• Familiarize yourself with the emergency exit routes.
• Don't leave heavy objects on shelves (they'll fall during a
quake).
• Participate in earthquake drills.
DURING
• Stay calm!
• If you're indoors, stay inside and do the “Drop,
Cover, and Hold”.
• If you're outside, stay outside—preferably in the
open—but stay away from buildings/any
infrastructure and from power lines.
• If you're in a car, stop the car and stay inside the car
until the earthquake stops.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE, DURING, AND
AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE
3 4
AFTER
• Check water, gas, and electric lines for damage. If any
are damaged, shut off the valves. Check for the smell
of gas. If you smell it, open all the windows and
doors, leave immediately, and report it to the
authorities (use someone else's phone).
• Stay away from beaches. Tsunamis and seiches
sometimes hit after the ground has stopped shaking.
• Expect aftershocks.
FIRE
• Electrical accidents or neglect (such as misuse of wiring
and electrical appliances)
• Smoking
• Kitchen accidents
• Heating equipment
• Hazardous goods (such as paints, adhesives or other
chemicals)

HOW TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER
MAJOR CAUSES OF HOUSE FIRES:
BEFORE
• Keep emergency numbers on easy accessibility
• Store matches and lighters in secure places
• Don’t overload electrical outlets
• Keep fire extinguishers and blankets near the
emergency exit
WHAT TO DO BEFORE, DURING,
AND AFTER AN FIRE
7 8
TYPES OF EXTINGUISHER
DURING
• Immediately inform the nearest fire station when
fire occurs
• Remain in the room if you are unable to exit. Keep
the door closed and await assistance or notify
rescue Personnel of your location with something
like a bright cloth from the window.
• Close the doors before leaving the premises as this
would help in slowing the fire and decreasing the
damage
• Avoid collecting personal items before moving out
of the fire exit.
AFTER
• Once in a safe place, call or report about the fire
outbreak and inform about your safety/assistance
required
• Await further instructions from the fire emergency
department and stay safe in the refuge area
• Don’t panic or hinder the evacuation or fire
exhaustion process
