Understanding the psyche of the disadvantaged student can assist greatly when
trying to engage them in the curriculum.
The five basic elements of a quality relationship are trust, forgiveness, integrity,
hope (optimism), and compassion. Each of these are important individually, but
together they substantiate the relationship. Each is established upon ‘giving’ for
