An object in grammar refers to someone or something involved in the subject's performance of the verb. A sentence with a verb may have both a direct object, which is what the action is done to, and an indirect object, which is the person the action is done for. There are two possible patterns - the direct object can come first followed by the indirect object with "for" or "to", or the indirect object can come first followed by the direct object.
