introduction
In 1901, Lagidis Chandra Bose, a professor of physics in Calcutta, India, filed a U.S
patent for a galena crystal point-contact semiconductor diode for detecting radio
signals.
what is the diode
A diode is a two-terminal semiconductor device that allows current to flow through
in one direction only. It basically has negligible resistance on one end and high
resistance on another to prevent the current from flowing through both ways.
Thus, a diode is like a valve in an electrical circuit.
symbol diode
working p-n diode
A diode in which the junction emits light when current flows through the PN
junction. When electricity flows through the semiconductor, the holes and
electrons in the P-type semiconductor combine, and the energy is emitted as light.
It is sometimes used as both a power lamp and a rectified.
types diode
application
The application areas of diodes include communication systems as limiters,
clippers, gates; computer systems as logic gates, clampers; power supply systems
as rectifiers and inverters; television systems as phase detectors, limiters,
clampers; radar circuits as gain control circuits, parameter amplifiers etc.
