This document discusses effective strategies for conducting online research. It identifies three key search strategies: 1) identifying search terms by examining keywords and alternative phrases related to the topic, 2) using keywords alone or in search strings to find more specific information, and 3) leveraging Boolean logic operators like "and", "or", and "not" to refine search results. The document also provides tips for planning search strategies like allocating time and resources to different tactics. The overall aim is to teach future teachers how to efficiently obtain reliable information online through strategic searching.
What is a keyword? Well, let’s say a keyword is a key which opens the door to your paper. It is one element which enables the dissemination of your paper –along with tile and abstract which will be discussed in future articles- and without these, readers would not be able to find or cite your paper. Keywords lead other researchers to your paper which may not be visible to them during their process of reading or, as mentioned above, in the journals they follow. The problem is that and there are many journals and papers out there, so chances are that when you publish a paper in one journal only a limited number of researchers may notice it. And even when these researchers notice your paper in that journal, again chances are that the the title you have selected will fail to indicate any relevance. What is a keyword? Reed Library Comp 250 Presentation for Spring 2017Ginger Williams
This presentation is given in library instruction sessions for COMP 250 to help students learn how to search the library's resources, why to use them, how to evaluate what they find, and how to pull those sources together into a bibliography.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. General aim
By the end of this
task, I will be able to
apply searching
strategies to obtain
reliable information
in any topic online.
2
3. 3
How to achieve personal aim
There are many ways to retrieve information online, but it is very important to
know the resource that provided that information. Almost every day we have to
research different topics or concepts, as future teacher I need to know what are
the best ways to research and since we are in a time where technology is very
important we need to take advantage of different tools available in the internet.
5. Specialized Web sites
maintained by subject
experts
They provide detailed
and specific responses
to your questions.
There are
generally two
types of
reference sites
Generalists (often
reference librarians)
They don't necessarily
answer your question
but point you to the best
resources for conducting
your own search.
5
6. Search Strategies
A search strategy is used to retrieve reliable
information about any topic using technology.
Of course every database works differently
hence the need several strategies.
6
8. “
1.Identifying search terms
Look for words or phrases in relation to the researched topic.
Examine the abstract of articles and look for terms and
alternative words related to the topic.
Resource: The article or book used to obtain information.
Materials: Online
article, ebook, pdf, etc.
8
9. 2. Using
keywords
A keyword search generally only looks for your search terms in
the title and abstract of a reference in the research database.
Some databases will only find the word exactly how it is written,
so we need to make sure to write them correctly. When reading
articles make notes of any useful keywords to improve the search.
Resource: To find an expert in a specific category, the following
search string at Google or any other search engine can be really
helpful:
"Expert + subject" (substitute your own keyword for "subject")
Material: Computer, any search string like: google, Internet Public
Library, Ask an Expert Locator, Answers.com, Encyclopedia.com,
etc.
9
10. 3. Boolean logic
Using the words and, or and
not will help refine the
research. Connecting
keywords with and reduces
the number of results and
make them more relevant.
Using or increases the number
of results and making them
more comprehensive. Not
reduces the number of results
retrieved by excluding a
search term. It should be used
with caution because it
excludes relevant information.
10
Resource: Use this
method in the
previous search
strings provided
(google, Internet
Public Library, Ask
an Expert Locator,
etc).
