Digital India is a government initiative launched in 2015 to transform India into a digitally empowered society. It has three core components: creating digital infrastructure, delivering services digitally, and increasing digital literacy. The program aims to connect rural areas to high-speed internet, provide public access to the internet through villages and post offices, lay broadband networks along highways, and ensure mobile connectivity nationwide by 2018. It also focuses on e-governance, IT training, manufacturing electronics domestically, and developing BPO sectors in northeastern states. The initiative is led by the Ministry of Electronics and IT and partners with companies like Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm and Facebook.
