Numerical three dimensional simulation of turbulent flow in round and flat tube fin heat exchangers having two rows of staggered arrangement has been carried out to investigate fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics using ANSYS Fluent 14® software. HYPERMESH10® Software has been
used for the creation of models as well for meshing. The cases have been simulated for different fin side Reynolds number in turbulent regime to observe the effect of various parameters like fin pitch, tube pitch and fin temperature on Colburn j factor and Friction factor f for both round and flat tubes. Fin side flow has been simulated using various steady flow models in the software for same velocity range. As simulation using k-ε model resulted in close agreement with that of experimental in turbulent regime, it is considered for further analysis. The performance of round tubes is compared with that of flat tubes with same flow area and geometrical parameters. For both round and flat tube domains with all the geometrical configurations simulated in this work Colburn j factor varied inversely with the inlet air velocity. The heat transfer is more with the higher fin spacing for both round and flat tubes following the above said trend. On the other hand, the pressure drop across the tubes is more with the lesser fin spacing
in contrast to the heat transfer. Due to lesser turbulent intensity in flat tubes, they exhibit slightly lesser
Colburn j factor and considerably lesser pressure drop compared to round tubes. Although flat tubes
exhibit slightly lesser Colburn j factor, due to larger exposed tube area increase in the air temperature in
the fin side is comparable with that of round tubes. Higher fin temperatures result with lesser Colburn j factor and higher pressure drop across the tubes although the fin temperature affects the pressure drop to lesser extent.

The performance of round tubes is compared with that of flat tubes with same flow area and geometrical parameters. For both round and flat tube domains with all the geometrical configurations simulated in this work Colburn j factor varied inversely with the inlet air velocity. The heat transfer is more with the higher fin spacing for both round and flat tubes following the above said trend. On the other hand, the pressure drop across the tubes is more with the lesser fin spacing
in contrast to the heat transfer. Due to lesser turbulent intensity in flat tubes, they exhibit slightly lesser
Colburn j factor and considerably lesser pressure drop compared to round tubes. Although flat tubes
exhibit slightly lesser Colburn j factor, due to larger exposed tube area increase in the air temperature in
the fin side is comparable with that of round tubes. Higher fin temperatures result with lesser Colburn j factor and higher pressure drop across the tubes although the fin temperature affects the pressure drop to lesser extent.

Speech Recognition for Agriculture based Interactive Voice Response System
This document discusses the development of an interactive voice response system (IVRS) for agricultural assistance for farmers in Marathi. It summarizes:
1) A Marathi speech database was created related to agricultural applications, including names of crops, infection symptoms, and disease names and solutions. This database was used to train and test the IVRS system.
2) An IVRS model called AGRO IVRS was proposed that would allow farmers to get information about crop diseases and solutions by phone in their native Marathi language.
3) The system was experimentally tested and achieved an overall recognition rate of 91% for 260 sentences. The IVRS model has the potential to provide farmers with 24/7 remote access to
Microstructure Analysis of Inlet and Exhaust Valves used in LPG fueled Retrof...
Mechanically operated poppet valves are used, both as inlet and exhaust, for most conventional
automotive engines in passenger cars. These valves are subjected to high temperatures throughout their operating
cycle. A valve originally designed for a gasoline engine, when used for an LPG fueled retrofitted engine, goes
through considerable mechanical damage, corrosion, erosion, wear and tear. It also demonstrates significant
changes in its microstructure. This investigation focused on microstructure analysis and quantitative metallography
of such inlet and exhaust valves using Atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique. The surface morphology of the
valve material was studied and AFM measurements were used for quantitative characterization of the structure as
also to gain useful information about crystallographic orientation of individual grains, the formation of cracks,
identification of potential crack initiation and fracture sites, etc. A comparative evaluation of microstructure of worn
- out valves with new valves was also carried out.

The Impact of HIV/AIDS on Rural Household Welfare in Rukungiri District-Uganda
Many able bodied household members in Rukungiri district have died of
HIV/AIDS. Consequently there are many house heads (often young and married) whose partners
died. This study investigated the impact of HIV/AIDS on rural household welfare in Rukungiri
district. A control group approach was used. Data was collected by the use of questionnaires and
empirical observation from both the affected households and unaffected households. The study
aimed at finding out how HIV/AIDS has led to depletion of households’ productive assets. A
binary logistic regression analysis was used to establish whether there is a significant difference
in the sources of income for medical expenses between the affected households and unaffected
households with the aim of finding out the extent to which HIV/AIDS has led to depletion of
households’ productive assets and consequent deterioration in households’ welfare. The study has
established that HIV/AIDS has led to deterioration in the welfare of the affected households
through exhaustion of savings and increased borrowing, with the end result of depletion of
productive assets leaving the survivors with minimal means of survival. Productive assets
commonly depleted include; land, cattle, goats, chicken, sewing machines, wheelbarrows and
bicycles. However, affected households have adopted many coping strategies including those that
aim at improving food security, raising and supplementing their incomes so as to maintain their
expenditure patterns, and coping with loss of labour. Since emergency traditional indigenous
groups are already operating in all the communities in the district acting as a source of
psychosocial support to individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS with their activities
such as assisting with burial ceremonies, communal farming, supporting sick patients, rebuilding
dwellings and rehabilitating farms, supporting survivors and creating income generating activities
and providing material support, the study recommends government support in collaboration with
donor agencies to provide them with training in HIV/AIDS home care support and enough funds to
enable them meet their requirements. Government in collaboration with NGOs operating in the
area should introduce short-term training courses in the affected areas to empower the survivors
with practical skills and equip them with capital that can enable them create jobs for themselves.
Further, improving agricultural yields through teaching them modern farming practices, provision
of free anti-retroviral therapies by the government to all the affected households, accompanied by
provision of food rations for boosting nutritional requirements would reduce the depletion of
productive assets of these households.

A Review on Implementation of TPM in Manufacturing Industry
The intent of the study is to appraise the challenges faced by manufacturing industries to
implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). The scheme of this research is to critically
analyze the factors influencing TPM implementation in manufacturing organizations, and to
formulate comprehensive strategy for overcoming impediments to successful TPM implementation .
The introduction of several philosophies such as Corrective Maintenance (CM), Preventive
Maintenance (PM) or Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) have allowed extra solutions to a
process planning problem faced by company in comparison to the conventional fire-fighting syndrome.
This main purpose of this study was to focus on developing a framework of maintenance strategy
TPM initiatives to confront exponential global challenges.
Wireless sensor network system for inclination measurement using spirit level
Landslide is one of the major sediment disasters causing natural catastrophes frequently.
Monitoring the inclination of land is important to prevent and reduce the negative effects of landslide. While
considering the large scale installation, the monitoring system should be stable and inexpensive. This paper
deals with the development of a new low cost inclination measurement system and its application to a
wireless sensor network for disaster prevention .When tested, inclination with a gradient of 0.002°of
minimum accuracy was noted. Measurement data were compared with the data from commercial
inclinometer.
