Is future manufacturing open source? (MIT Innovation Lab - Dec 4 2018)Christian Villum
Presentation made at MIT Innovation Lab on December 4 on work done in the REMODEL program on using strategic design to explore new business models for manufacturing based on open source principles. See www.remodel.dk
I led a team in building a website for coworking where creatives, freelancers, and startups can find communal workspaces in their area. Another goal was to create a badge for the coworking community in Germany.
12 Lessons on Advertising 101 From an Architect Alex Goh
(This is Part 1 of 4)
Note: I'm not an Architect.
Content within this deck was discovered on a trip to Athens, Greece where I stayed at the home of an architect. Amongst the hundreds of books he had, I chanced upon this gem - "Letter to a Young Architect" - which I've collated and will share with you here.
Contained within that book was the author's life learnings, to be handed down to future architects. But what surprised me was that, on every page, each of those learnings could be directly applied to advertising as well. And such good lessons they were that I felt compelled to keep a record of those lessons, for my own learning and to share with others.
Hope it's as eye-opening for you as it was for me. Enjoy!
A short talk given at Drupalsummit in Genk, about the importance of giving people a good initial experience in using Drupal. With 3 suggestions for a more focussed and useful install profile.
AREAS OF INNOVATION: MIXED REALITY IN THE INDUSTRY AND OUR EVERYDAY LIFEsinnerschrader
The arrival of the HoloLens marks a turning point in creating applications that enrich the real world with virtual objects. The device’s immersive experience, which is referred to as Mixed Reality, opens up an entire world of potential uses in industrial enterprises as well as our everyday lives. Holograms not only enrich our environment – interaction with holograms also facilitates our daily activities. In this session we will give you an overview of what sets the HoloLens apart from other Augmented and Virtual Reality devices, what it can do and what you can do with it. We will also provide an outlook on the use cases we see for the device and discuss your own ideas for the HoloLens. And finally we would like to give you the opportunity for a short hands-on demo.

While working with Tumi’s global creative director we were able to take on the task of fabricating prototypes and then, with international partnership, mass production and worldwide distribution of a new line of VM props and displays.
At Livello 7 we help people design beautiful presentations that produce one simple outcome: reach the initial goal you had when you began thinking about that presentation.

What is a Creative Technologist? [February 2014, VCU Brandcenter Guest Lecture]Rachel Mercer
Edited subset of a presentation that I gave to VCU Brandcenter Master's Candidates in Creative Technology, only a portion of which I can share publicly. There has been a lot of ambiguity around the school and the field itself about their role in the future of advertising. I took a stab at giving them some direction here.

Open Innovation for the Internet of Things
Successful open product platforms for the Internet of Things can benefit from the creativity of the crowd. At the same time, it is challenging for platform owners to, for example, maintain control over the user experience. In this talk, Susan illustrates her latest academic research with a case study of the Philips Hue.

Energy efficiency business models: Fit to serve?
Most new business propositions are formed around a product-service combination. In energy efficiency, however, business models are still mainly product solutions, as shown in recent research by Duneworks and Ideate. Such ‘unfit’ business models might be the cause for a slow market uptake; in this talk Renske illustrates how to change that.

A visible architecture is a physical model of a software system created by architecture teams using Duplo® bricks, with strings representing data flows. Visible architectures enable teams to collaboratively understand the “as-is” architecture and make better choices on the “to-be” architecture. We use Visible Architectures and frameworks like Speed Boat and Prune the Product Tree to help teams succeed. This deck outlines a step-by-step process for how to create a visible architecture.

Agile and Design: creating and implementing products (in Italy) is possibleIlaria Mauric
The wiseman says: "A company specialized in IT consultancy cannot make products."
If you decide to break this taboo, the road is only one: understanding how that product can be realized and working hard to make it.
This is the story of Indyco, a tool born merging an agile dev team and a lean design team. Teams that didn't know each other before. And they made Indyco real in 6 months.
We will share the simple but powerful principles that lead us up to the go-live.
Now we are measuring and collecting data for next step.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

- World’s economy (and designer’s role
in it) is radically transforming.
Efficiency and aesthetics are not enough.
- Companies / societies will continue to

Innovation:
Imaginative activity fashioned to
produce outcomes that are both
original and of practical value.
(What designers naturally do!)
4. Digital Design

Students also keep a blog
as a work-in-progress archive and
a place to post two or three reviews
each week of posts from design
blogs as well articles from the
New York Times.
Periodically, all students will present
their blog reviews as well as
work-in-progress updates to the class.
