2. What is a digipak?
Before starting research on this particular
ancillary text I had no idea what a digipak was,
you can even see throughout my planning and
research I have just been referring to it as a CD
cover. A digipak is the patented name for the
style of CD and DVD packaging, so it is
essentially the fancy name for a CD cover. It is
also something that I have to produce for my
ancillary text and so here I will be researching its
conventions so that I can apply it to my product.
3. Front
The front of the digipak conventionally
features a large eye catching picture which
tends to relate to the artist.The album title
will also be featured.These conventions are
very similar to the conventions of a magazine
ad for the album (see Ancillary texts:
Magazine ad conventions analysis).
4. Back
The back holds more information on the
album as opposed to the front which is more
about aesthetic appeal (it must look good on
a shelf in order to attract potential consumers
into purchasing the album) therefore the
back features the barcode, track list, album
artwork, etc.
5. Inside
This is where the actual CD will be.There is
usually more album artwork.The front, back
and inside will feature similar artwork and the
same colour scheme to provide continuity.
There may also be personal messages, song
lyrics or information on the artist features on
the inside.
