This document discusses two digital preservation tools developed by the National Library of Australia (NLA) called Mediapedia and Prometheus. Mediapedia is a repository for information on different media carriers that helps identify carrier types and their access requirements. Prometheus is a system for ingesting "at-risk" digital materials stored on media carriers into the NLA's storage system. It uses a decentralized, modular approach to handle different carrier types semi-automatically and generate metadata for future access. Both tools aim to address the growing problem of preserving content accessible on obsolete media carriers in the NLA's collections.
