The propeller shaft transmits power from the gearbox to the rear axle of a vehicle. It consists of three main parts: a spider universal joint, a sleeve and sliding shaft that allows for length variation, and main bearings. The propeller shaft is made up of these components, including a steel shaft of appropriate diameter and length for the vehicle model, and may have either one, two, or three shaft pieces depending on the vehicle's chassis construction.
