Teaching Methods
Produced by David Carvalho
to keep
in mind
ü Approach is axiomatic, method is procedural, and
technique is implementational.
ü Online classes demands its own taxonomy over
program content, activities and evaluation.
ü Interactive Teaching techniques are key to
perform a successful on-line classes.
ü Strive for 30% / 70% split, which means:
- 30% lecture + 70% Interactive Teaching.
Interactive teaching
is all about teaching students in a way they are actively involved with their learning process.
apply different ways to create an
intense involvement use as much as
possible teacher-student interaction or
student-student interaction
techniques can include the use of
audio, visuals, video, hands-on
demonstrations, exercise, debates,
brainstorming, virtual resources,
research, interviews and others.
Interactive teaching
Interactive teaching techniques must
encourage students to be active members of
your class, thinking on their own, using their
brains, resulting in long-term memory
retention.
Not only the students' knowledge will
improve, but their interest, strength,
knowledge, team spirit and freedom of
expression will increase as well.
TÍTULO PRINCIPAL (pressione tab entre o
título e o subtítulo) SUBTÍTULOTeaching Techniques
Story telling – Stories teach us
about life, about ourselves and
about others. Storytelling is a
unique way for students to develop
an understanding, respect, and
appreciation for other cultures, and
can promote a positive attitude to
people from different lands, races
and religions.
Brain Storming - a large or small group
activity that encourages students to
focus on a topic and contribute to the
free flow of ideas. The teacher may
begin a brainstorming session by posing
a question or a problem, or by
introducing a topic. Students then
express possible answers, relevant
words and ideas. Which will be
classified by groups of subjects and
consolidated into group conclusions.
Flipped Classroom - is a “pedagogical
approach in which direct instruction
moves from the group learning space
to the individual learning space, and
the resulting group space is
transformed into a dynamic,
interactive learning environment
where the educator guides students as
they apply concepts and engage
creatively in the subject matter.
Deductive classroom, the teacher conducts lessons by
introducing and explaining concepts to students, and then
expecting students to complete tasks to practice the concepts;
this approach is teacher-centered
Inductive and Deducting teaching
Inductive instruction is a student-centered approach and
makes use of a strategy known as noticing, which become
students aware of a concept, making students understand it
by noticing what those examples have in common.
Task Based Learning (Task Based
Instruction) - focuses on the use of
authentic language and on asking
students to do meaningful tasks using
the target language. Examples: visiting
a doctor, conducting an interview, or
calling customer service for help. It is
especially popular for developing
target language fluency and student
confidence.
Responsive Teaching (scaffolding) -
is the process of stepping in and out
of a learning activity to support the
student’s individual needs and
growing independence. Responsive
teaching involves observing
students carefully, as already said
“figuring out where they are going
and then help them get there.
Business Case - is a teaching approach that uses
decision-forcing cases to put students in the role of
people who were faced with difficult decisions at
some point in the past. It could be real experiences
of build situations. Focus is making students to
face a working scenario looking for reinforce the
program contend, or practice, to use methodology
or tool and others.
Project based learning - is a teaching method in
which students gain knowledge and skills by
working for an extended period of time to
investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging,
and complex question, problem, or challenge.
Game Based Teaching (GBT) - is a type of game play
that has defined learning outcomes; generally, is
designed to balance subject matter with gameplay
and the ability of the player to retain and apply said
subject matter to the real world.
Blended Learning (Hybrid learning) - that
combines both traditional classroom and online
courses. Massively improve the way you deliver
your training programs. Personalized Experience.
Peer tutoring: is a teaching strategy
wherein students are paired together to
practice academic skills and master
content. It is used to help accommodate
a classroom full of diverse students who
need more individualized attention.
Co-operative Learning - is the instructional
use of small groups so that students work
together to maximize their own and each
other's learning.
Think-Pair-Share (TPS) - is a
collaborative learning strategy in
which students work together to solve
a problem or answer a question about
an assigned reading. This technique
requires students to (1) think
individually about a topic or answer to
a question; and (2) share ideas with
classmates.
Buzz Sessions - is a cooperative learning
technique consisting in the formation of
small discussion groups with the
objective of developing a specific task
(idea generation, problem solving and
so on) or facilitating that a group of
people reach a consensus on their ideas
about a topic in a specific period of
time.
Differentiated Instruction - is a technique for
effective teaching that involves providing all
students within their diverse classroom
community of learners a range of different
avenues for understanding new information
in terms of: acquiring content; processing,
constructing, or making sense of ideas; and
developing teaching materials and
assessment measures so that all students
within a classroom can learn effectively,
regardless of differences in ability.
Incident Process - A critical incident is
any unplanned event which takes
place during the class. ... Teachers can
critically analyze any of their lessons
and can make a particular event
critical by reflecting on it. The
teachers ask not only what happened
but also why it happened
