Presentation as part of the u!magine Supporting Learning Technology Innovation workshop. The presentation was aimed at providing some hints of how we can extend the current LMS, but also exploring the use of APIs. The use of APIs can be simply explained through services like IFTTT that empower users to connect services in combinations that suit them.

Big Data Stockholm v 7 | "Federated Machine Learning for Collaborative and Se...Dataconomy Media
Federated Machine Learning (FedML) is a distributed machine learning approach which enables training on decentralised data. A server coordinates a network of nodes, each of which has local, private training data. The nodes contribute to the construction of a global model by training on local data , and the server combines non-sensitive node model contributions into the global model. Federated learning addresses fundamental problems of centralized AI such as privacy, ownership, and locality of data. It extends, even disrupts, the centralized AI paradigm in which better algorithms always comes at the cost of collecting more and more sensitive data.
NYAI #26: Federated Learning: Machine Learning on Edge Devices w/ Alice Albre...Maryam Farooq
Federated learning enables us to build machine learning models using data collected by edge devices like smartphones and IoT devices, without moving data off the device. This minimizes concerns about privacy, data regulation, bandwidth, and storage, while providing similar results as centralized models. Examples include predictive text on cell phones, a person’s engagement with their own photos, and machine learning in the browser applied to corporate text archives such as a team Slack or Google Drive, and ML on low-powered field devices in energy, agriculture and logistics.
The principles of data minimization established by the GDPR and the prevalence of smart sensors makes these use cases more common, and the advantages of federated learning more compelling. In this talk we’ll cover the algorithmic solutions and the product opportunities.
This talk was presented by Alice Albrecht (Research Engineer, Cloudera) at NYAI #26 on Tues, 11/28 at Capital One Labs.

New Opportunites to Connect Learning with LIS and LTIJohn Lewis
Today's students and teachers are active in an ever-growing number of group-based learning and collaborative environments. From Facebook, Wordpress, Pearson MyLabs, Sakai, Moodle and more, there is a need to provide a reliable source of student, course and enrollment information to each of these various platforms. In addition, once the students and courses are provisioned into the group-based environments, the learning tools themselves need to be able to interact effectively in order to provide a seamless learning experience for both students as well as faculty. The IMS members have been working on 2 specifications to critical for enabling the interoperability of source learning information, as well as learning tools. After highlighting the current progress of both LTI and LIS, we will demonstrate a Sakai instance which can simultaneously get authoritative course and enrollment data via LIS (using Oracle's SAIP), and also connect seamlessly to external tools such as Wordpress via Basic LTI.
This talk about functionality mashup and IMS Learning Tools Interoperability was presented at the IMS Korea meeting on 22-Oct-2010 at the Vivaldi Ski Resort in South Korea. It looks at the challenges of having far too many accounts to make use of the "Web 2.0" software.
INTERFACE BASED PROGRAMMING ASSIGNMENTS AND AUTOMATIC ASSESSMENT AND GRADING ...ijiert bestjournal
As the knowledge base in the Computer Science is gr owing, many new programming languages are being introduced. On one hand the software industry, whil e hiring a computer programmer, expects him to be a proficient in computer programming. But on other ha nd there is deficiency of computer programmers who are skilled in programming. So to bridge this gap its crucial to assess the programming abilities of stud ents. Testing and grading programming assignments manuall y requires more time and are less efficient as far as its correctness is concerned. Today, many software systems are available for cond ucting choice based assessment that are capable of assessing a students knowledge but not his skills. We have implemented system for assessment which is based on programming assignments that are submitted by students. The system in turn compiles these programs online. After compiling it successfully th e teacher of the corresponding subject can test it using this system, and grades it based on how many tasks have been accomplished. This paper reports about the des ign and implementation of automatic assessment of progr amming assignments. Report of the sample usage of t his software system is included.
How often do you learn that you must deliver a new capability or correct a network issue and it needed to be implemented yesterday? Do you get extra resources to make it happen? Do these asks cut into your personal time?
Now, imagine a world where you can not only easily execute these asks but one where you can also prove to your leaders how the network can be a competitive advantage and help your company make money.
The latest World Wide Technology (WWT) TEC37 webinar focuses on the operational challenges in the data center that can be addressed by software-defined networking (SDN), including how WWT is implementing SDN, as well as the cost benefits of adopting a programmable network.

This is my Think Piece for 2014 tackling the development of the theme of the future CSU graduate. It addresses one of the key graduate learning outcomes - digital literacies - by discussing the concept of networks and how they apply in a variety of ways in education.
Presentation with audio is available here: http://youtu.be/6pdVeboAOLA
Part of the presentation given at the Ascilite 2013 conference it describes the work being done in the CSU mLearn project. The work around digital publishing and the Proof of Concept that has been developed for a flexible and adaptive provides a new model for Create Once Publish Everywhere workflows. While developed with particular attention to higher education it is applicable for all digital publishing scenarios.
This is my contribution the Think Pieces 2013 Project at Charles Sturt University. This project provides an opportunity for an ongoing, open dialogue about how some of the CSU community are thinking about the challenges and opportunities we face as an institution.
My talk is about the need to shift the context in which we view learning - away from the campus and to be come more student centred. This reframing and changing of perspective allows us to rethink the role of the university and as well how we think about pedagogy, practice, content and technology.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
