Adult ES/ESOL students asked a question:
“What’s difference between Speaking and Pronunciation" ?
Michelle Walker-Wade gives an answer that one ESL teacher said was the best she's ever heard!
2. Using the correct phoneme (which is the
smallest unit of sound within a word)
Being able to distinguish different words
that sound similar but may be differ by one
letter
• (example: pad, pat or bad, bat)
3. The ability to articulate (or make) the right
sound and put stress on the correct
syllable
The ability to speak with the correct
speaking pattern, pitch and tone.
5. The ability to put the correct words and
phrases together in the correct order, and to
say complete thoughts with fluidity and ease
Speaking also includes a more social context
such as politeness, use of appropriate
language for the situation/environment and
the ability to dialog
6. So speaking focuses
more on when, where,
and how to say words
together so they can
express your thoughts.
7. Pronunciation and Speaking
