2. Everyone has a pancreas in his/her
body. The pancreas makes insulin.

3. Your body needs insulin to make
energy from the food we eat.

4. My pancreas stopped working and so I
had to go to the hospital.

5. Since my pancreas doesn’t make
insulin anymore, I have to give my
body insulin.

6. Now, I get my insulin from a pump.

7. Before I eat, I have to test my blood
with my meter.

8. And, I have to know how many carbs
are in the food I’m going to eat.

9. When I go low, I have to have 15 carbs
of sugar.

10. When I have too much insulin and not
enough sugar, I go “low.” I can feel……..

11. When I go “high,” I have too much
sugar in my blood and I need insulin.

12. Taking care of my diabetes keeps me
healthy!

13. This is how you can help me………..
• Please understand that I can’t share my food.
I need to eat everything that we planned so
that I don’t go low.
• Please don’t give me food. I can’t eat extra
food without insulin.
• If I tell you I feel low, please tell an adult.
