2. This is me, Ally.
I have Type 1 Diabetes.

3. Type 1 Diabetes means that my
pancreas doesn’t work.

4. You cannot get
Type 1 Diabetes
from eating too
much sugar and
you also can’t
catch diabetes
from anyone
else.
Type 1 Diabetes just happens.

5. I have to
check my
blood sugar
8 to 10 times a day.
That’s why you will
see me going to the
clinic often.

6. This is my insulin pump. I wear it all
the time, even when I sleep.
Everybody needs insulin to turn your
food into energy. People with diabetes
get insulin from a shot or an insulin
pump.

7. My pump is always connected to my
arm or my leg.
I wear my pump in a
pouch or on a clip .

8. I can eat most everything you can eat.
I just have to count the carbs and get
insulin before I eat.

9. Sometimes my blood sugar can get
too high or too low and I don’t feel
good.

10. When my blood sugar is low, I need to
eat or drink more carbs.
When my blood sugar is high, I need
more insulin.
