The document contains 100 short passages related to DevOps culture, practices, and humor. Many passages joke about tensions between development and operations teams, the benefits of automation and continuous delivery, as well as popular DevOps tools and concepts.
The ultimate objective of a DevOps approach is to deliver quality products to your customers as efficiently as possible. DevOps shops that achieved this state point to continuous testing as a key contributor to their success. However, QA and testing have become forgotten orphans in the DevOps journey of many organizations. For groups that have incorporated testing, many have a release cadence that resembles something more like waterfall. The culprit is often the inability to incorporate stable automation into their testing practices.
In this talk, Lee will discuss how organizations can address these issues, and move towards continuous testing within their DevOps practices. Specifically, the discussion will touch on key practices and methods for implementing effective test automation in a DevOps pipeline including test suite & test scope, automation approach/methods, and test environment and data management.

In computer science, all-pairs testing or pairwise testing is a combinatorial method of software testing that, for each pair of input parameters to a system (typically, a software algorithm), tests all possible discrete combinations of those parameters.
A test automation framework defines an organization's way of doing things. It is a set of assumptions, concepts and tools that provide support for automated software testing.
Verification is the process of checking that a software achieves its goal without any bugs.
Validation is a dynamic mechanism of Software testing and validates the actual product.

Deja vu security Adam Cecchetti - Security is a Snapshot in Time BSidesPDX ...adamdeja
As the air gap between our daily lives and the Internet continues to shrink the security of our personal data and devices grows in importance. We are facing the daily threat of putting 2000s era computers bolted to toasters online while expecting them to defend against 2017 capable attackers. This talk will explore the continuing trend of IoT, discuss how we’ve been here before, and layout strategies for keeping pace with attackers in the future. This talk will focus on enumerating this risk, discuss the challenges involved, and explore solutions.
First, we will examine this history of how we got here, and what it means to say “security is a snapshot in time.” We then introduce the idea of shared ken – the range of one’s knowledge or sight – and how it impacts security. Third, we discuss the influence of data as code, the meta game, and secrecy as a way of mastering impact and ken.
This talk will allow attendees to walk away with
A holistic view of the history of computer security and how it impacts them today
The importance of extending the range of collective vision to reduce blind spots
Practical advice for BSiders to grow their mindset and improve their impact

Red Hat User Group (RHUG) - Chicago 2019Brian Gracely
Introduction to the Red Hat User Group (RHUG) in Chicago, 2019.
- Red Hat Learning Subscriptions
- Other ways to learn about OpenShift
- Some basics of Kubernetes and OpenShift
Kubernetes is the Platform. What's Next?Brian Gracely
Abstract: In 2017, the industry standardized on Kubernetes as the de facto container orchestration
technology. Kubernetes is an open source project, originally developed at Google, and now managed by the
Cloud Native Computing Foundation. (CNCF). An orchestration engine is the basis for how operations staff
deploy and manage containers at scale.
In this webinar, we'll take a look at what Kubernetes as the de facto container orchestration technology
means. Learn from Red Hat's leadership in the Kubernetes community and from many years of Red Hat®
OpenShift customer deployments. Topics will include:
• What Kubernetes delivers now.
• What else is still needed to operate and maintain a container application platform.
• How an application platform can optimize developer productivity, security, and multicloud
deployments.
Culture, Containers and DevOps - Innovation in an Open Source WorldBrian Gracely
As the center of technology innovation has shifted to open source communities, companies are looking for ways to harness this technology and adjust their internal cultures to better compete in a software-centric world.
This talk is intended to give technical professional a framework to discuss the use of technology to transform business, in a format that the business leaders will understand.
Interop 2018 - Understanding Kubernetes - Brian GracelyBrian Gracely
In the world of containers, Kubernetes has emerged as the dominant standard for managing how containers are deployed, monitored and managed. This talk will provide fundamental knowledge of how Kubernetes interacts with containers, storage, networking, security and application frameworks. The audience will learn about the core element of Kubernetes, including etcd, the Kubernetes API, the various types of controllers, and the Kubelet. In addition, we'll discuss the broad ecosystem of projects and technologies that make Kubernetes usable within the Enterprise, and across multiple cloud environments.
Culture, Containers and accelerating DevOps - The Path to Digital TransformationBrian Gracely
Part of a series of DevOps events with Gene Kim (The Phoenix Project, The DevOps Handbook), this looks at how Linux containers and container platforms (e.g. Red Hat OpenShift) play a role in helping companies adopt a DevOps culture, and ultimately deliver better software, faster, for their business to compete in the marketplace.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
