Communication involves the exchange of words through various means including body language, tone, and attitude. Language disorders in children can make it difficult for them to develop speech normally or learn skills fully. Parents first realize there is a problem when a child cannot understand or follow simple directions. Children with language disorders often struggle to form sentences and have a low vocabulary for their age. Delayed language differs in that the child eventually develops skills, while disorders persist. Parents of children with language disorders experience feelings of pity and increased sympathy for their child but little positive impact. The first step is accepting the child, while also supporting siblings who may experience problems. Raising awareness and treating children with love can help improve outcomes. The document provides information about a workshop on speech sound disorders presented by Fouzia Saleemi. It discusses various types of speech sound disorders including articulation disorders, phonological disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, and dysarthria. It outlines the stages of the speaking process and various classification systems and intervention approaches for treating speech sound disorders in children, including core vocabulary therapy, cycles therapy, dynamic temporal and tactile cueing, and minimal pair therapies.
Effective listening skills are important but often underdeveloped. Listening is an active process that involves hearing, attending, comprehending, and responding. It accounts for over 50% of communication skills. However, people often retain only a short message or 25% of what they hear after 48 hours. Barriers to effective listening include environmental distractions, psychological factors like biases, physiological issues, and information overload. Some strategies to improve listening include showing interest, making eye contact, being patient, listening without bias, taking notes, and asking questions.
This document discusses considerations for students with speech/language delays or communication disabilities as well as those who are deaf or have hearing loss. For speech/language delays, early intervention is important for equal language development compared to peers. Teachers should reduce distractions, use visual aids and written directions, and allow flexible grouping. For deaf/hearing loss students, teachers must be trained in communication strategies and an interpreter or assistive technology may be needed. Noise should be reduced and visual communication modes incorporated for deaf students to learn best.
The document describes an internship at The Care Center, a pediatric therapy practice offering speech, occupational, physical, and aquatic therapy. It provides details on the facility, staff, and different therapy settings observed. Key lessons learned include the variety of diagnoses treated, importance of nonverbal communication methods, breadth of skills addressed in speech therapy, and role of initial evaluations and carryover at home in the therapy process.

This study used fMRI to investigate the neural circuits involved in capsaicin-induced pain in awake rats. Capsaicin was injected into the hindpaw of wild-type and TRPV1 knockout rats during scanning. In wild-type rats, capsaicin activated brain regions implicated in the pain pathway as well as regions involved in emotion and memory. Capsaicin did not elicit significant activation in TRPV1 knockout rats, as expected. However, formalin still activated some pain-related regions in knockouts, and capsaicin may have antinociceptive effects independent of TRPV1 signaling. This study demonstrates the potential for awake animal neuroimaging to inform our understanding of full

Code smells are symptoms of poor design solutions applied by programmers during the development of software systems. While the research community devoted a lot of effort to studying and devising approaches for detecting the traditional code smells defined by Fowler, little knowledge and support is available for an emerging category of Mobile app code smells. Recently, Reimann et al. proposed a new catalogue of Android- specific code smells that may be a threat for the maintainability and the efficiency of Android applications. However, current tools working in the context of Mobile apps provide limited support and, more importantly, are not available for developers interested in monitoring the quality of their apps. To overcome these limitations, we propose a fully automated tool, coined aDoctor, able to identify 15 Android-specific code smells from the catalogue by Reimann et al. An empirical study conducted on the source code of 18 Android applications reveals that the proposed tool reaches, on average, 98% of precision and 98% of recall. We made aDoctor publicly available.

Обучение с результатом. как сделать, чтобы участники не попрактиковались, а н...Natalia Sintsova

A developmental delay is when a child does not reach expected developmental milestones. Common types of delays include speech, motor, cognitive, vision, and social/emotional skills. Signs of delays include lack of babbling, grasping, following objects, walking, and interacting with others by certain ages. If suspected, parents should speak to their pediatrician who may screen the child and refer them for early intervention services to address any delays.
Connie is concerned about a child in her care who may have special needs and asks how to identify if this is the case. The most common special needs seen in young children are speech/language delays, autism spectrum disorder, cognitive delays, social/emotional disorders, and learning disabilities. The document provides information on warning signs for each of these and recommends that caregivers document observations, share concerns with parents, and request a developmental evaluation if needed. Early identification and intervention is important to help support the child's development.

Speech-language therapy is based upon individualized goals and objectives. Each child’s learning rate is different and therefore, a specific time period of therapy cannot be predicted.
This document discusses child development milestones and delays. It notes that developmental milestones are skills achieved by children between birth and 5 years of age. Milestones are used to track average ages that children learn specific tasks, and delays in reaching milestones could indicate developmental problems. The four main domains of development are gross motor skills, fine motor skills, speech/language, and social/emotional skills. It provides examples of important milestones within each domain and notes that delays may be caused by various genetic and environmental factors.
This document discusses child development milestones and delays. It defines developmental milestones as skills achieved by children at average ages, covering four domains: gross motor, fine motor/vision, speech/language, and social/emotional. Certain delays may indicate conditions like cerebral palsy, but some children simply develop at their own pace. The document outlines typical milestones and ages children meet them, as well as causes and treatment of developmental delays.

Resonance or voice disorders are issues with the pitch, volume, or quality of the voice that interrupt the message. A child in these circumstances may experience distress or torture while speaking.
Early detection and treatment can meet the child's developmental needs and prevent further delays. TalktoAngel helps people improve their communication skills through a variety of methods. The language teacher is powerful for the two youngsters and grown-ups.
This document discusses slow learning children. It defines slow learning as developmental delays in areas like speech, memory, and processing information. Slow learners may struggle socially and with emotions. Causes can include trauma, premature birth, medical issues, and overparenting. Challenges for slow learners include keeping up academically and socially. The best ways to help are setting small achievable goals, accepting failure as part of learning, staying supportive through praise and encouragement, and keeping the child motivated.
The document discusses signs and symptoms of common language and speech disorders in children that should be observed and addressed early through testing and treatment. It covers delays in babbling, gesturing, understanding, vocabulary, sentence formation, reading/writing skills, sound production, fluency and other areas that may indicate disorders like apraxia, dysarthria, aphasia, intellectual disability, or other communication issues. Early detection is important so disorders can be properly diagnosed and treated.

Atypical development can occur in motor skills, social/emotional development, cognitive abilities, or language. It requires therapy and assistance to help the child reach their full potential. There are biological and environmental risk factors for atypical development such as genetic conditions, injuries, pollution, abuse, or poverty. Teachers can use developmental milestones and sequences to identify skills requiring extra support and make appropriate referrals to services to aid children's development.
This document discusses cognitive developmental delay and mental retardation in children. It defines mental retardation as significantly below average intellectual functioning and deficits in adaptive behaviors. Common causes include genetic conditions like Down syndrome, environmental factors like exposure to toxins, and brain injuries. Symptoms in infants may include poor feeding and muscle tone issues, while toddlers may show delays in skills like walking, language, and self-care. Diagnosis involves developmental assessments, medical exams, and psychological testing to measure cognitive abilities. Management requires a team approach and treats any underlying medical conditions while providing family support, education/therapy programs, and community resources.

This presentation discusses late talkers and specific language impairment. Late talkers are identified at age 2 when they produce fewer than 50 words and do not combine words. Specific language impairment is a language impairment without other issues, where nonverbal skills are normal. It affects around 7% of children and persists into adulthood. The presentation reviews predicting, diagnosing, and helping late talkers versus those with specific language impairment. Parents and teachers can help late talkers through techniques like self-talk, parallel talk, and expanding on a child's words. A speech pathologist diagnoses specific language impairment through language testing.

The Evolution and Impact of OTT Platforms: A Deep Dive into the Future of Ent...ABHILASH DUTTA
This presentation provides a thorough examination of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, focusing on their development and substantial influence on the entertainment industry, with a particular emphasis on the Indian market. We begin with an introduction to OTT platforms, defining them as streaming services that deliver content directly over the internet, bypassing traditional broadcast channels. These platforms offer a variety of content, including movies, TV shows, and original productions, allowing users to access content on-demand across multiple devices. The historical context covers the early days of streaming, starting with Netflix's inception in 1997 as a DVD rental service and its transition to streaming in 2007. The presentation also highlights India's television journey, from the launch of Doordarshan in 1959 to the introduction of Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television in 2000, which expanded viewing choices and set the stage for the rise of OTT platforms like Big Flix, Ditto TV, Sony LIV, Hotstar, and Netflix. The business models of OTT platforms are explored in detail. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) models, exemplified by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, offer unlimited content access for a monthly fee. Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) models, like iTunes and Sky Box Office, allow users to pay for individual pieces of content. Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) models, such as YouTube and Facebook Watch, provide free content supported by advertisements. Hybrid models combine elements of SVOD and AVOD, offering flexibility to cater to diverse audience preferences.
Content acquisition strategies are also discussed, highlighting the dual approach of purchasing broadcasting rights for existing films and TV shows and investing in original content production. This section underscores the importance of a robust content library in attracting and retaining subscribers. The presentation addresses the challenges faced by OTT platforms, including the unpredictability of content acquisition and audience preferences. It emphasizes the difficulty of balancing content investment with returns in a competitive market, the high costs associated with marketing, and the need for continuous innovation and adaptation to stay relevant.
The impact of OTT platforms on the Bollywood film industry is significant. The competition for viewers has led to a decrease in cinema ticket sales, affecting the revenue of Bollywood films that traditionally rely on theatrical releases. Additionally, OTT platforms now pay less for film rights due to the uncertain success of films in cinemas.
Looking ahead, the future of OTT in India appears promising. The market is expected to grow by 20% annually, reaching a value of ₹1200 billion by the end of the decade. The increasing availability of affordable smartphones and internet access will drive this growth, making OTT platforms a primary source of entertainment for many viewers.
