3. Development of Ayurveda
• The education of Ayurveda was suppressed by the British by
establishing western system of medicine
• Later to uplift the Ayurvedic education in 1907
• All India Ayurvedic conference, was held under the leadership
of Shri Shankardaji Shatri Pade
• Later during 1908-09 Nikhila Bharata varshiya Ayurveda
Vidhya Peeth was established followed with Guru-Shishya
tradition of education with a goal to organize regular teaching
& exams throughout India

6. Comon Committee
• After the establishment of Kanyaka Parameswari Ayurvedic
college & pharmacy at Madras by Pt . D. Gopalacharyalu in
year 1905, people realized importance of Ayurveda &
awareness towards the system of Ayurvedic medicine
• Due to effort of eminent Ayurvedic physician & different
organization
• The Govt of Madars constituted a single member committee
named “Comon Committee” headed by Dr Comon in year
1917, to submit a report regarding the usefulness of
Ayurvedic system of medicine

7. Recommendation (Approval)
• There is no need for establishment of separate Ayurvedic
hospital, college & dispensaries.
• It is enough to supply useful medicine of Ayurveda, Unani
& siddha to the modern hospitals to cater the needs of
public

8. Usman Committee
• The Govt of Madaras appointed a committee on indigenous
system of medicine on 17th Oct 1921, which was headed by
Khan Bahadhur Sir ND Usman Saheb
• Secretary was captain G Srinivas Murthy, Dr U Rama Roa
& others were members
• They submitted report to Govt of Madaras on 17th Feb 1923

9. Recommendation:
• The Govt should take necessary step for recognition &
encouragement of Indian system of medicine
• The Govt should start good number of Ayurvedic college,
hospital, immediately to produce sufficient number of
practioners to serve public
• The teaching methodology should be practical oriented
• The institute should produce Best Doctors for medical
relief, PG for teaching, Research Scholars for develop of
science
• CCIM should establish for registration

10. Action taken by the Govt:
• Established Govt school of Indian medicine at Madras on
6th Jan 1925 to import teaching in Ayurveda, Siddha, &
Unani medicine along with the essential of modern medicine
• 1926 established hospital with OPD & IPD facilities
• 1930 PG course FIM (Fellow of Indian Medicine), ALIM
(Associate Licentiate of Indian medicine) started
• Duration of course must be 5 years
• Teachers of Ayurvedic college should be well paid
• Rural dispensaries established

11. Bhore Committee
• Govt of India appointed Bhore committee under the
chairmanship of Sri Joseph Bhore on 25 Dec 1943 &
submitted report on 18th Dec 1945

12. Recommendation
• Not consider the matter of Indian system of medicine & left to
Govt for decision
• After the representation & agitation Govt of madaras passed
following resolution
• To start diploma, degree & PG course in indigenous system of
medicine
• Practinors of Indian medicine should be absorbed into state
health organization by giving scientific training

13. Chopra Committee
• After 1st health minister conference held at Delhi in 1946
• The Govt of India appointed a committee on 19th Dec 1946 on
indigenous system of medicine under
