Waste Minimization and Energy Conservation in Gelatin Production by Raw Mater...ijsrd.com
Based on current manufacturing system of gelatin production, cleaner production opportunities are discussed considering aspect such as waste minimization, energy conservation, etc. Improving the utilization of inputs and minimizing the production of unwanted or low value outputs is fundamental to improving profitability. Adopting cleaner production also helps in awareness of consequences of environmental practices that are unfriendly and that are detrimental to the industry's bottom-line. Adopting cleaner production may require onetime investment or it can be done with zero cost. A few process changes and good housekeeping in production of gelatin may increase gelatin yield and reduces wastewater quantity. Process changes such as automatic handling of machines, direct packaging etc leads to environmental as well as financial benefits. Byproduct utilization and wastewater reuse are other benefits of cleaner production. This paper discuss about current process followed in gelatinization, suggestion of cleaner production opportunities throughout the process and cost benefit analysis for suggested cleaner production opportunities. Major advantages from cleaner production in gelatinization here is byproduct reuse and waste water reutilization.

Freezing is a unit operation in which temperature of a food is reduced below its freezing point (removal of sensible & latent heat of fusion), and a proportion of the water undergoes a change in state to form ice-crystals. Immobilization of water to ice and the resulting concentration of
dissolved solutes in unfrozen water lowers the water activity of the food. Lowering of temperature, lowers the microbial activity as well as suppresses the chemical reactions in the food. Generally,
we find two type of freezing method, quick freezing and slow freezing. In slow freezing, food products are introduced to low temperature for relatively longer time duration and hence the ice crystal formed are of larger in size, which are sometimes not at all desirable depending on
characteristic of food product. In quick freezing, relatively even lower temperature is used for food product but exposure time is less. Hence the ice crystal formed are of smaller size. Even though small ice crystal formed during quick freezing helps in preserving the texture and other characteristic of product, sometimes it may cause to temperature shock to product. Choosing the method of freezing is hence of utmost importance.

Spray drying for formulation of pharmaceutical, herbal and food productsFoodresearchLab
Spray drying is the mechanism of processing fluid into dry matter by spraying the fluid into a hot dry medium particularly as hot gas. The line of action comes into play as an atomizer breaks down the fluid into droplets of the right size and disperses them into the drying medium. The dispersed droplets mix with the hot dry gas.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. About Supercritical Fluid
Extraction
Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) is the
process of separating one component (the
extractant) from another (the matrix)
using supercritical fluids as the extracting solvent
SFE can be used as a sample preparation step
for analytical purposes.
SFE can be used on a larger scale to either strip
unwanted material from a product
(e.g. decaffeination) or collect a desired product
(e.g. essential oils)
4. Contd…
These essential oils can include limonene and other
straight solvents.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most used supercritical
fluid, sometimes modified by co-solvents such
as ethanol or methanol.
Extraction conditions for supercritical carbon
dioxide are above the critical temperature of 31 °C
and critical pressure of 74 bar.
Addition of modifiers may slightly alter this.
6. Advantages
3 S comply with environmental standards
Reduce-energy conservation and reduce pollution; Reuse-
repeated, repeated use; Recycle-sustainable resources,
recycling.
Inexhaustible Carbon dioxide is in fact industrial by-
products, such as the fermentation industry, the
petrochemical industry in the process will have a high
concentration of carbon dioxide, the collection of purified,
liquefied compressed can be stored after use.
sterile and can inhibit bacterial growth
non-toxic, safe
7. Principle
Supercritical CO2 extraction means CO2 goes to a
supercritical phase after pressurization and heating
temperature above critical points.
CO2 at supercritical phase have solubility powers
similar to liquid organic solvents, but with higher
diffusivities, higher transfer efficiency, lower
viscosities, and lower surface tension.
8. Contd…
With advantages of non-toxic, colorless, odorless,
incombustibility, non- photochemical reaction, eco-
friendly and easy recycling, CO2 is now considered as
the best solvent for Supercritical Fluid Extraction
technology.
9. Advantages
●Effectively bioactive ingredients extraction with lower
viscosity and higher penetration to the matrix
●No solvent residue in the extract. This means lower
operating costs for clean-up and the reduction in post-
processing steps.
● Non-toxic, high safety degree, non-flammable, non-
explosive.
●Selective extraction by manipulating the operating
conditions (temperature, pressure
10. Applications

12. About
Plants contain a broad range of bioactive compounds
such as lipids ,photochemical ,pharmaceutics , flavors
, fragrances and pigments.
Plant extracts are widely used in the food,
pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
Extraction techniques have been widely investigated
to obtain such valuable natural compounds from
plants for commercialization. Traditional methods,
such as Soxhlet extraction, which have been used for
many decades, are very time consuming and require
relatively large quantities of solvents
13. Contd..
. There is an increasing demand for new extraction
techniques with shortened extraction time, reduced
organic solvent consumption, and increased pollution
prevention.
Novel extraction methods including:-
ultrasound-assisted extraction,
microwave-assisted extraction,
supercritical fluid extraction, and
14. Ultrasonic Extraction of Caffeine
It is an effective method for the extraction of caffeine
and from coffee.
Powerful ultrasonic devices assist the extraction
process whilst maximizing yield and shortening
processing time.
Coffee – made from roasted coffee beans – is a very
popular drink that is worldwide consumed.
15. Extraction Techniques
Ultrasonic extraction is a frequently used technique for
the extraction of plant materials using liquid solvents and
is proven for a fast and more complete extraction process in
comparison with traditional methods because the surface
area between the solid and liquid phase is significantly
larger due to the cell disruption and particle dispersion.
Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) is a process of
using microwave energy to heat solvents in contact with a
sample in order to partition analytes from the sample
matrix into the solvent. The ability to rapidly heat the
sample solvent mixture is inherent to MAE and the main
advantage of this technique.
17. About
Pharma companies like Novartis, Glaxosmithkline and
Cadila healthcare has stepped into the dietary supplement
industry in recent years.
The FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) suppliers and
pharmaceutical companies are the key players in the Indian
Nutraceutical market.
Vitamin and mineral supplements are responsible for the
64% of the total Nutraceutical market in India
The pharmaceutical companies are focusing on expanding
the market of already existing Nutraceutical product by
boosting it to the consumers rather than concentrating on
the innovation and development of new Nutraceutical
products.
