Walk Wisely, be Filled - Ephesians 5:15-21David Turner
Believers are called Children of Light! But Children of Light must walk in the light and have wisdom to know that they can be drawn in to darkness. The Spirit is the guide that keeps us from darkness. Ephesians 5:15-21 warns Children of Light to depend on the Spirit and not be drawn back into the darkness they once walked. This is the greatest verse in the bible, it demonstrates the Love of God for man and how God was willing to give the very best thing he had to save us from our sins...
Before Christ came into our lives, we were children of darkness. But even as God is light, and Christ is the light of the world, so also are we are children of light. As such, we ought to walk in the light and behave in a manner consistent with our calling. Wake up oh Christian and let your light shine.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

29. God or Angels?
Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 Bible Accuracy
• God or Angels?
• Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 Bible Accuracy
• Q. I have heard many teachers claim that in Psalm 8:5 and Hebrews 2:7 the word “angels” is mistranslated and
should be God resulting in the text reading: “… a little lower than God” with the idea being to bolster man’s
dominion status. The notion that there’s an error always generates in my mind thought of well if this translation is
wrong what else is wrong and that leads to the doubt of the Bible being infallible, the breathed, and inspired Word
of God. Others I have heard say that you have to be a Hebrew/Greek scholar because God spoke to his man using
these languages and translators have taken liberties. I would like your opinion. Thanks.
• A. The Hebrew word “elohim” in Psalm 8:5 is almost always translated “God” or “gods” depending on whether it is
speaking of deity or not (it’s a plural word), although it can mean “angels”. Psalm 8:5 is the only time it’s translated
that way in the Old Testament and then only in some English translations.
• But the Greek word “aggelos” in Hebrews 2:7 is almost always translated angels. This could be due to the fact that
it is an accepted meaning of the Hebrew word and the context of Hebrews 1-2 is the superiority of Jesus over
angels. The writer was using the phrase “son of man” to refer to Jesus and worded the Greek translation of Psalm
8:5 so it could be read, “You made him for a little while lower than the angels”. This is confirmed in Hebrews 2:9
where he mentioned Jesus by name. Some study Bibles carry this alternate translation in a footnote.
• His point was when Jesus became man, He became lower than the angels for a little while, but he was then crowned
with glory and honor, implying that after His resurrection He was raised above them again. You can see how this
changed the focus of Psalm 8:5 from man in general to the Son of Man in particular.
• It is true that some liberties have been taken with the English translations, mostly to accommodate the theological
biases of the translators. But they only become problematic in a small percentage of cases. For most people any
legitimate English translation will be more than sufficient. It’s only when someone embarks upon a serious study
that knowing the actual meanings of words in their original language becomes helpful, and there are a number of
study aids available that can help those who lack a formal education in the Bible’s original languages.

30. Created Moon, Young Moon
• Lunar formation—collision theory fails
• by Ronald G. Samec
• Figure 1. Stars in this cluster appear to be formed out of the surrounding nebula, illustrating the author’s ‘In-place formation’.
• A recent study of moon rocks1,2 calls into question the present lunar formation theory and may bring us back full circle to one of the earliest theories—that of George Darwin’s ‘fission hypothesis’. Other early theories included the lunar capture theory and the
condensation hypothesis.3 The fission hypothesis claims that the early earth rotated faster, as more dense elements sunk to its core. When the earth exceeded breakup velocity, the material that would become the moon tore from Pacific Ocean Basin, leaving
a scar (Ridges). The problem with this is that the initial spin or angular momentum is not conserved in the present earth–moon system (50% loss). Also, the orbit of the moon and the obliquity of the ecliptic (likewise the inclination of the earth) should
coincide, and they do not. The earth’s inclination is about 23.5° to the orbital plane (the ecliptic) and the moon’s orbit is inclined by some 5°.
• Another theory is that the moon was captured by the earth as it passed by in an earth-crossing orbit. One major problem with this idea is that capture is an extremely rare event. Even if this unlikely event took place, the moon would likely have swung by in a
parabolic or an elliptical trajectory, which is a higher-velocity orbit than that of the near-circular orbit of the present day moon. The big question is what caused the moon to slow down? Also, we would expect the present moon to have a larger eccentricity and
inclination. The resulting fantastic tidal dissipation would have also resulted in major distortions and destructiveness of the earth. Finally, if a near-collision brought the object within the Roche limit, the moon could have been shredded into rings encircling the
earth.
• The big question is what caused the moon to slow down?
• The third lunar formation hypothesis is an extension of the Laplace nebular hypotheses: the moon formed from the solar nebula. As the sun’s nebula condensed, conservation of angular momentum caused a disk to form, and within the disk, eddies or
whirlpools developed. At the centre of these, the planets formed. Secondary eddies led to satellites or moons of the planets. The earth and the moon supposedly formed in an eddy and a secondary eddy. Again, the strange earth-moon orbital inclination
would not result—the moon’s orbital plane and the earth’s equator should coincide.
• A fourth lunar formation theory is more recent.4 It involves an earth collision with a two Mars-mass planet. This seems to solve all of the aforementioned problems except for the low probability of such an event. In fact, it is much more improbable than a near
collision of a lunar mass dwarf planet as in the capture hypothesis. However, the odd orbit of the moon is easily explained by the initial orbit of the planet since it does not have to follow a particular path (except that it should be near the ecliptic). However,
Zhang et al.2 and Meier1 have now cast doubt over even this model. Zhang et al. confined their study to a rare form of titanium (using the 50Ti/47Ti ratio) which is known to occur in widely varying amounts throughout the solar system. After correcting for the
difference caused by the continued exposure of the lunar surface solar radiation, the scientists found that the abundance in moon rocks was identical to that of earth. This implies that the moon came only from the same materials as the earth and not a once-
distant alien planet that collided with the earth. There is therefore no evidence of the Mars-mass object in these data. So the collision theory has apparently failed.5
• Why should the moon and the earth be so alike? A clue to this is supplied by the following verses:
• “Let the earth bring forth grass …” (Genesis 1:11).
“Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature …” (Genesis 1:20).
“Let the earth bring forth the living creature …” (Genesis 1:24).
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground …” (Genesis 2:7).
“And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air …” (Genesis 2:19).
“And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man” (Genesis 2:22).The real explanation of the moon’s existence and orbital configuration is that God designed and created the moon and set it in place, with
a number of important purposes.
• It is possible that God formed the first living creatures, and possibly other complex objects like the first stars and planets, from already created locally available elements. Thus, sea creatures were formed from materials found in the oceans, land animals and
men were formed from elements found in the earth’s crust. Probably even the earth, the planets, and the stars were formed from local condensations of gasses and dust found in the immediate area of their formation. In the beginning, there was a ‘creation’
of elementary materials followed by in-place formation of complex forms. Today, stars found in groups called clusters are found to be of similar ‘age’ and chemical content. This could be offered as evidence for this idea. It appears that God made products
from previously created basic ‘building blocks’. I call this the ‘in-place formation’ hypothesis (figure 1). It may be an important piece to the creation puzzle.
• Regardless, the real explanation of the moon’s existence and orbital configuration is that God designed and created the moon and set it in place, with a number of important purposes. These include the gyrostabilization of the earth, cleaning of its shorelines
by tidal forces, giving light in the evening, and the revealing of the Sun’s corona and chromosphere to scientists during solar eclipses. Helium was discovered because of the last listed design feature. We read in Genesis 1:16–18 (KJV):
• “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
“And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
“And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.”

• Zhang et al., ref. 2 suggest that the twin nature of lunar rocks and the earth could be explained by an “efficient impact ejection” by “exchange of material between the earth’s magma ocean and the protolunar disk”. However, it is very hard to imagine such a
thorough mixing of an alien planet and the earth’s crust.Return to text.
31. Waters Above, Solar System, Sun Moon
• Are Science and Creation Compatible?
• Think the story of creation, as described in the Book of Genesis, would hold water if subjected to scientific scrutiny?
“Our findings show that a significant fraction of our Solar System’s water, the most-fundamental ingredient to fostering life, is older than the Sun,” said
Conel Alexander of the Carnegie Institution for Science, who took part in the research.
The verses in Genesis talk about water, too—specifically, about what some say is the division between that water in space and the water here on Earth:
“And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament.”
That was on Day 2—predating the sun by two days, according to the biblical order of creation. (Or so it seems at first glance.)
What are religious Jews to make of such parallels between scientific findings and the biblical account of creation? That depends on whom you ask, of
course, with answers ranging, in essence, from “nothing” to “a great deal.”
“These are totally separate things,” says Rabbi Yehoyada Amir, who heads the Israel Council of Reform Rabbis and is a professor of Jewish thought at
Hebrew Union College. It doesn’t even matter if science supports religious tenets, in his view: the Bible is here to teach us values and the role of mankind
in the world, not to give us an accurate play-by-play of how the universe began.
But Nathan Aviezer, an Orthodox physics professor at Bar-Ilan University who grew up in Detroit and has written several books about the interplay of
science and religion, argues that contemporary cosmology has gone a long way toward clarifying the previously opaque opening verses of the Torah.
Take that seemingly confusing part about water beneath the heavens and water above, for instance. In the past, Bible readers had to shrug off that
heavenly water as esoterica that was beyond their understanding. Now we know that there is water in space—or, in the Bible’s words, “above the
firmament.” The current findings provide a further boost to scientific support for a literal understanding of Day 2 of creation, says Aviezer.
“It corresponds even more strongly with what is written in the Bible,” says Aviezer. “It’s good for the Jews.”

The theory of evolution is now considered a scientific fact throughout the academic world. Yet when faced with real scientific scrutiny, large holes are
exposed and usually answered with one word: “time.” Those believing in evolution simply claim that the earth is millions, even billions of years old and
evolved by itself.
Will man find the answer in his desperate search for the origin of life? The answer is yes, and the record is found in Revelation 6:15-16, “And the kings
of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves
in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the
throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.” That will be the end of the religion of evolution.

• “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”—Psalm 8:1
• by Rev. Richard Pike
• “O Lord our Lord, How Excellent is Thy Name.”
• About one thousand years before the birth of Christ, King David who reigned over all of Israel, wrote Psalm 8 to
celebrate God’s glory as Creator.
• This song of praise encourages our heart and mind to contemplate the One God who alone bears the Most Excellent
Name in all the earth.
• The Authorised Version reads “How Excellent is Thy Name”. The Berkeley, Version says “How glorious”. The Revised
Standard Version, the New American Version and the New International Version all translate the text “How majestic is
your Name”. God’s Name is that by which He is known. His nature is His Name. The Name He bears is the nature of His
being; that nature by which He reveals Himself to us. Men do not give God a Name—He gives Himself one, or rather,
many names as expressions of His relationship to His creatures. In this first verse of Psalm 8 two names of God are
mentioned and translated “Lord”. The first is Jehovah (or Yahweh) LORD, and the second name is Adonai, Lord.
• Men do not give God a Name—He gives himself one, or rather, many.
• God’s revelation fixed the meaning of the word Jehovah (Exodus 3:14). The context of this passage teaches that He who
declares Himself as the “I AM” (I AM the God of your father … ) is the One who in effect can say “I WAS” (Exodus 3:6).
