IAQM Guidance on Mineral Dust
What do we mean by
Residual Source Emissions?
• Emissions after accounting for the designed-in mitigation
• Evaluated for each operational activity, for each zone
• Emissions magnitude can be Small/Medium/Large
• Examples are provided for all seven activities (Refer to Section
6.2.1 of the Consultation Document)
• Not prescriptive; Decision is left to the professional judgement
2RSK Environment Ltd
Designed-in Mitigation
• Design Measures (Table 4, Section 7 of the
Consultation Draft)
• Operational Measures (Table 5, Section 7 of the
Consultation Draft)

Next steps
• The magnitude of Residual Source Emissions for each
operational activity, for each zone is summarised.
• S-P-R is established.
• Assessment is carried out to identify the potential dust
disamenity effects at specific receptor locations.
• Depending on the significance of dust effects, additional
mitigation measures are identified where necessary.
