information to the instructor about the learner’s experience in that particular course. In this paper we have designed an automated scaffolding technique to hold these vital information’s about the learner which can be accessed and used by the instructor in the synchronous tutorial session to make the system more adaptive.

courses, technologies and infrastructures to provide an effective learning environment. The Learning
Management System (LMS) is the core of the entire e-learning process along with technology, content, and
services. This paper investigates the role of model-driven personalisation support modalities in providing
enhanced levels of learning and trusted assimilation in an e-learning delivery context. We present an
analysis of the impact of an integrated learning path that an e-learning system may employ to track
activities and evaluate the performance of learners.
The e-learning contained many educational resources are generally used in learning systems like Moodle, It’s free open source software packages designed and flexible platform to create Learning Objects (LOs) and users’ accounts. The author demonstrates how to use semantic web technologies to improve online learning environments and bridge the gap between learners and LOs. The ontological construction presented here helps formalize LOs context as a complex interplay of different learning-related elements and shows how we can use semantic annotation to interrelate diverse between learner and LOs. On top of this construction, the author implemented several feedback channels for educators to improve the delivery of future Web-based learning. The particular aim of this paper was to provide a solution based in the Moodle Platform. The main idea behind the approach presented here is that ontology which can not only be useful as a learning instrument but it can also be employed to assess students’ skills. For it, each student is prompted to express his/her beliefs by building own discipline-related ontology through an application displayed in the interface of Moodle. This paper presents the ontology for an e-Learning System, which arranges metadata, and defines the relationships of metadata, which are about learning objects; belong to academic courses and user profiles. This ontology has been incorporated as a critical part of the proposed architecture. By this ontology, effective retrieval of learning content, customizing Learning Management System (LMS) is expected. Metadata used in this paper are based on current metadata standards. This ontology specified in human and machine-readable formats. In implementing it, several APIs were defined to manage the ontology. They were introduced into a typical LMS such as Moodle. Proposed ontology maps user preferences with learning content to satisfy learner requirements. These learning objects are presented to the learner based on ontological relationships. Hence it increases the usability and customizes the LMS. In conclusion, ontologies have a range of potential benefits and applications in further and higher education, including the sharing of information across e-learning systems, providing frameworks for learning object reuse, and enabling information between learner and system parts.

used in commercial Web Services to the e-learning context. To adopt Web Services technology
towards the reusability and aggregation of e-learning services, the conceptual Web Services
architecture and its building blocks need to be augmented. The objective of this research is to
design broker based registry architecture for e- Web services which facilitates effective elearning
content/service discovery for the consumption or composition. The implementation
followed by experimentation showed that, the proposed e-learning discovery architecture
facilitates effective discovery with moderate performance in terms of overall response.

These learner can find many free e-learning web sites from the internet easily in the domain of interest. However it is quite difficult to find the best e-learning content suitable for their learning based on their domain knowledge level. User spent most of the time figuring out the right content from a plethora of available content and end up learning nothing. An intelligent framework using machine learning algorithms with random forest Classifier is proposed to address this issue, which classifies the e-learning content based on its difficulty levels and provide the learner the best content suitable based on the knowledge level .The frame work is trained with the data set collected from multiple popular e-learning web sites. The model is tested with real time e-learning web sites links and found that the e-contents in the web sites are recommended to the user based on its difficulty levels as beginner level, intermediate level and advanced level.

Although of the semantic web technologies utilization in the learning development field is a new research area, some authors have already proposed their idea of how an effective that operate. Specifically, from analysis of the literature in the field, we have identified three different types of existing applications that actually employ these technologies to support learning. These applications aim at: Enhancing the learning objects reusability by linking them to an ontological description of the domain, or, more generally, describe relevant dimension of the learning process in an ontology, then; providing a comprehensive authoring system to retrieve and organize web material into a learning course, and constructing advanced strategies to present annotated resources to the user, in the form of browsing facilities, narrative generation and final rendering of a course. On difference with the approaches cited above, here we propose an approach that is modeled on narrative studies and on their transposition in the digital world. In the rest of the paper, we present the theoretical basis that inspires this approach, and show some examples that are guiding our implementation and testing of these ideas within e-learning. By emerging the idea of the ontologies are recognized as the most important component in achieving semantic interoperability of e-learning resources. The benefits of their use have already been recognized in the learning technology community. In order to better define different aspects of ontology applications in e-learning, researchers have given several classifications of ontologies. We refer to a general one given in that differentiates between three dimensions ontologies can describe: content, context, and structure. Most of the present research has been dedicated to the first group of ontologies. A well-known example of such an ontology is based on the ACM Computer Classification System (ACM CCS) and defined by Resource Description Framework Schema (RDFS). It’s used in the MOODLE to classify learning objects with a goal to improve searching. The chapter will cover the terms of the semantic web and e-learning systems design and management in e-learning (MOODLE) and some of studies depend on e-learning and semantic web, thus the tools will be used in this paper, and lastly we shall discuss the expected contribution. Educator’s knowledge about the likely students’ achievement in blended courses prior to sitting for
examinations provides room for early intervention on students’ learning process, especially to those at risk.
Unfortunately, Leaning Management Systems (LMSs), Moodle in particular lacks an environment to assist
educators access such knowledge from time to time before undertaking their examinations. This raised the
need to propose a model, of which from time to time would be providing the likely students’ achievement
based on activities in Moodle and previous achievement, taking a case of postgraduate programmes at the
University of Dar es Salaam.
This study applied artificial neural networks in building a prediction model. Simulations were conducted in
Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) utilizing seventy eight instances (78) of students’ logs of three blended
courses extracted from Moodle for 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 academic years.
Mean Square Error (MSE) and Coefficient of Determination (R
2
) performance metrics were used to find
the best prediction model considering ten possible models. The study revealed a model with architecture of
4:10:1 trained with Bayesian Regularization (BR) to be the best model resulting to least MSE of 0.0170 and
high R
2
of 0.93 on training. During testing, the model successfully predicted 78% of the students’
achievement with risk and pass status.

interoperability between heterogeneous applications over the Web. To adopt Web services technology
towards the reusability and aggregation of e-learning services, the conceptual Web services architecture
and its building blocks need to be augmented. In this paper, a well formed functional semantics approach
is proposed to describe e-learning Web services providing variety of learning objects/resources. The
paper presents an extendible functional knowledge to map the learner’s or provider’s versions of service
descriptions into a standard form called Abstract Description. The authors propose a broker based elearning Web service architecture which facilitates effective e-learning service publishing and discovery
mechanisms. The paper explores a scheme to extend the WSDL 2.0 document in order to incorporate
functional semantics of e-learning Web services and their operations. The paper presents an e-learning
service knowledge called Learning Operation Tree (LOT) for the quick e-learning service discovery. The
experimentation shows that, the proposed broker based architecture for e-learning Web services
facilitates effective discovery with moderate performance in terms of recall and response.

Assessing students’ continuance intention in using multimedia online learningTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The study aims to assess the students’ continuance intention (SCI) in using multimedia online learning including students’ perceived usefulness (SPU), students’ ease of use (SPE), and students’ flow experience (SFE). There is no, so far, assessment of students’ activity in using multimedia online learning within the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).There were 523 students as the samples. They learned and examined the content of online English learning resources as well as multimedia aspects.TAM was used to predict the SCI. The results indicate that the students’ intentions are influenced positively by perceived usefulness, ease of use, and the flow experience. The SPU influenced more students’ motivation than SPE. It is recommended that designers of online learning should be more specific in determining target users. The online learners’ skill on ICT, pedagogical principles, and technological barrier in different region are among the determinant aspects for receiving positive enduring intention.
Online Teaching Learning (OTL) systems are the future of the education system due to the rapid development in the field of Information Technology. Many existing OTL systems provide distance education services in the present context as well. In this paper, several types of existing OTL systems are explored in order to identify their key features, needs, working, defects and sectors for future development. This paper describes an agent-oriented approach that aims to create learning situations by solving problems. The proposed system is designed as a multiagent that organizes interfaces, coordinators, sources of information, and mobiles. The objective of this approach is to get learners to solve a problem that leads them to get engaged in several learning activities, chosen according to their level of knowledge and preferences in order to ensure adaptive learning and reduce the rate of learner abundance in an e-learning system. The search for learning activities procedure is based on evolutionary algorithms typically a genetic algorithm, to offer learners the optimal solution adapted to their profiles and ensure a resolution of the proposed learning problem. In terms of results, we have adopted “immigration strategies” to improve the performance of the genetic algorithm. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach we have made a comparative study with other artificial intelligence optimization methods. We conducted a real experiment with primary school learners in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed approach and to set up its functioning. The experiment results showed a high rate of success and engagement among the learners who followed the proposed adaptive learning scenario.

towards the reusability and aggregation of e-learning services, the conceptual Web services architecture
and its building blocks need to be augmented. In this paper, a well formed functional semantics approach
is proposed to describe e-learning Web services providing variety of learning objects/resources. The
paper presents an extendible functional knowledge to map the learner’s or provider’s versions of service
descriptions into a standard form called Abstract Description. The authors propose a broker based elearning Web service architecture which facilitates effective e-learning service publishing and discovery
mechanisms. The paper explores a scheme to extend the WSDL 2.0 document in order to incorporate
functional semantics of e-learning Web services and their operations. The paper presents an e-learning
service knowledge called Learning Operation Tree (LOT) for the quick e-learning service discovery. The
experimentation shows that, the proposed broker based architecture for e-learning Web services
facilitates effective discovery with moderate performance in terms of recall and response.

Assessing students’ continuance intention in using multimedia online learningTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The study aims to assess the students’ continuance intention (SCI) in using multimedia online learning including students’ perceived usefulness (SPU), students’ ease of use (SPE), and students’ flow experience (SFE). There is no, so far, assessment of students’ activity in using multimedia online learning within the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).There were 523 students as the samples. They learned and examined the content of online English learning resources as well as multimedia aspects.TAM was used to predict the SCI. The results indicate that the students’ intentions are influenced positively by perceived usefulness, ease of use, and the flow experience. The SPU influenced more students’ motivation than SPE. It is recommended that designers of online learning should be more specific in determining target users. The online learners’ skill on ICT, pedagogical principles, and technological barrier in different region are among the determinant aspects for receiving positive enduring intention.
Online Teaching Learning (OTL) systems are the future of the education system due to the rapid development in the field of Information Technology. Many existing OTL systems provide distance education services in the present context as well. In this paper, several types of existing OTL systems are explored in order to identify their key features, needs, working, defects and sectors for future development. For this, different aspects, types, processes, impacts, and teaching–learning strategies of various OTL systems were studied. In addition, the paper concludes with some future insights and personal interest in the further development of OTLs on the basis of previous research performed.
Integration of evolutionary algorithm in an agent-oriented approach for an ad...IJECEIAES
This paper describes an agent-oriented approach that aims to create learning situations by solving problems. The proposed system is designed as a multiagent that organizes interfaces, coordinators, sources of information, and mobiles. The objective of this approach is to get learners to solve a problem that leads them to get engaged in several learning activities, chosen according to their level of knowledge and preferences in order to ensure adaptive learning and reduce the rate of learner abundance in an e-learning system. The search for learning activities procedure is based on evolutionary algorithms typically a genetic algorithm, to offer learners the optimal solution adapted to their profiles and ensure a resolution of the proposed learning problem. In terms of results, we have adopted “immigration strategies” to improve the performance of the genetic algorithm. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach we have made a comparative study with other artificial intelligence optimization methods. We conducted a real experiment with primary school learners in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed approach and to set up its functioning. The experiment results showed a high rate of success and engagement among the learners who followed the proposed adaptive learning scenario.

Abstract—Knowledge becomes a highly valuable shared commodity that once acquired can be exploited again and again for
the rest of our lives. Successful societies in 21st century are likely
to be determined by the efficiency and depth of their knowledge
transfer throughout their education systems and beyond. In this
work we try to address the challenge of how to maximise the
students learning efficiency in the typical educational system both
on the conceptual and practical levels. Inspired by the research
on peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing networks we define the arguably
optimal self-organising learning environment for education and
demonstrate several practical tools and systems supporting our
model within the holistic intelligent campus framework - iCampus

This is a comparison of Instructivist and constructivist pedagogical approaches and their applications in different situations, which make clear the comparative advantages of both approaches. Instructivist learning, places the teacher in authority while the constructivist shifted authority to no one in particular but shared responsibilities between learner and teacher in such a manner that the teacher no longer assumes the responsibilities of the passage of information/knowledge to the learner but only guides him to discover the ‘objective truth’ out there and in the attainment of learning objectives. Teaching and Learning process was redefined in the light of ‘new’ understanding in teaching and learning and practical applications of these pedagogical approaches were considered. I presented a study guide (Appendix 1) as an example of socio-constructivist pedagogy where emphasis in on learning rather than on teaching.

Nevertheless, spatial and temporal decorrelations of the interferometric couples used, limit strongly the precision of analysis results by these techniques. In this context, we propose, in this work, a methodological approach of surface deformation detection and analysis by differential interferograms to show the limits of this technique according to noise quality and level. The detectability model is generated from the deformation signatures, by simulating a linear fault merged to the images couples of ERS1 / ERS2 sensors acquired in a region of the Algerian south.

Universities offer software engineering capstone course to simulate a real world-working environment in which students can work in a team for a fixed period to deliver a quality product. The objective of the paper is to report on our experience in moving from Waterfall process to Agile process in conducting the software engineering capstone project. We present the capstone course designs for both Waterfall driven and Agile driven methodologies that highlight the structure, deliverables and assessment plans.To evaluate the improvement, we conducted a survey for two different sections taught by two different instructors to evaluate students’ experience in moving from traditional Waterfall model to Agile like process. Twentyeight students filled the survey. The survey consisted of eight multiple-choice questions and an open-ended question to collect feedback from students. The survey results show that students were able to attain hands one experience, which simulate a real world-working environment. The results also show that the Agile approach helped students to have overall better design and avoid mistakes they have made in the initial design completed in of the first phase of the capstone project. In addition, they were able to decide on their team capabilities, training needs and thus learn the required technologies earlier which is reflected on the final product quality

Using social media in education provides learners with an informal way for communication. Informal communication tends to remove barriers and hence promotes student engagement. This paper presents our experience in using three different social media technologies in teaching software project management course. We conducted different surveys at the end of every semester to evaluate students’ satisfaction and engagement. Results show that using social media enhances students’ engagement and satisfaction. However, familiarity with the tool is an important factor for student satisfaction.

DYNAMIC PHONE WARPING – A METHOD TO MEASURE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN PRONUNCIATIONS cscpconf
Human beings generate different speech waveforms while speaking the same word at different times. Also, different human beings have different accents and generate significantly varying speech waveforms for the same word. There is a need to measure the distances between various words which facilitate preparation of pronunciation dictionaries. A new algorithm called Dynamic Phone Warping (DPW) is presented in this paper. It uses dynamic programming technique for global alignment and shortest distance measurements. The DPW algorithm can be used to enhance the pronunciation dictionaries of the well-known languages like English or to build pronunciation dictionaries to the less known sparse languages. The precision measurement experiments show 88.9% accuracy.
INTELLIGENT ELECTRONIC ASSESSMENT FOR SUBJECTIVE EXAMS cscpconf
In education, the use of electronic (E) examination systems is not a novel idea, as Eexamination systems have been used to conduct objective assessments for the last few years. This research deals with randomly designed E-examinations and proposes an E-assessment system that can be used for subjective questions. This system assesses answers to subjective questions by finding a matching ratio for the keywords in instructor and student answers. The matching ratio is achieved based on semantic and document similarity. The assessment system is composed of four modules: preprocessing, keyword expansion, matching, and grading. A survey and case study were used in the research design to validate the proposed system. The examination assessment system will help instructors to save time, costs, and resources, while increasing efficiency and improving the productivity of exam setting and assessments.
TWO DISCRETE BINARY VERSIONS OF AFRICAN BUFFALO OPTIMIZATION METAHEURISTICcscpconf
African Buffalo Optimization (ABO) is one of the most recent swarms intelligence based metaheuristics. ABO algorithm is inspired by the buffalo’s behavior and lifestyle. Unfortunately, the standard ABO algorithm is proposed only for continuous optimization problems. In this paper, the authors propose two discrete binary ABO algorithms to deal with binary optimization problems. In the first version (called SBABO) they use the sigmoid function and probability model to generate binary solutions. In the second version (called LBABO) they use some logical operator to operate the binary solutions. Computational results on two knapsack problems (KP and MKP) instances show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and their ability to achieve good and promising solutions.
DETECTION OF ALGORITHMICALLY GENERATED MALICIOUS DOMAINcscpconf
In recent years, many malware writers have relied on Dynamic Domain Name Services (DDNS) to maintain their Command and Control (C&C) network infrastructure to ensure a persistence presence on a compromised host. Amongst the various DDNS techniques, Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA) is often perceived as the most difficult to detect using traditional methods. This paper presents an approach for detecting DGA using frequency analysis of the character distribution and the weighted scores of the domain names. The approach’s feasibility is demonstrated using a range of legitimate domains and a number of malicious algorithmicallygenerated domain names. Findings from this study show that domain names made up of English characters “a-z” achieving a weighted score of < 45 are often associated with DGA. When a weighted score of < 45 is applied to the Alexa one million list of domain names, only 15% of the domain names were treated as non-human generated.

The paper benefits from the current advances in Blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Specifically, the paper presents a Global Music Asset Assurance (GoMAA) digital currency and presents the iMediaStreams Blockchain to enable the secure dissemination and tracking of the streamed content. The proposed solution provides the data owner the ability to control the flow of information even after it has been released by creating a secure, selfinstalled, cross platform reader located on the digital content file header. The proposed system provides the content owners’ options to manage their digital information (audio, video, speech, etc.), including the tracking of the most consumed segments, once it is release. The system benefits from token distribution between the content owner (Music Bands), the content distributer (Online Radio Stations) and the content consumer(Fans) on the system blockchain.

discourse translation, the crucial step is Anaphora resolution and generation. In Anaphora
resolution, cohesion links like pronouns are identified between portions of text. These binders
make the text cohesive by referring to nouns appearing in the previous sentences or nouns
appearing in sentences after them. In Machine Translation systems, to convert the source
language sentences into meaningful target language sentences the verb suffixes should be
changed as per the cohesion links identified. This step of translation process is emphasized in
the present paper. Specifically, the discussion is on how the verbs change according to the

variable method (FVM) is proposed to seek the exact traveling wave solutions of two higherdimensional
space-time fractional KdV-type equations in mathematical physics, namely the
(3+1)-dimensional space–time fractional Zakharov-Kuznetsov (ZK) equation and the (2+1)-
dimensional space–time fractional Generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony

Since the mid of 1990s, functional connectivity study using fMRI (fcMRI) has drawn increasing
attention of neuroscientists and computer scientists, since it opens a new window to explore
functional network of human brain with relatively high resolution. BOLD technique provides
almost accurate state of brain. Past researches prove that neuro diseases damage the brain
network interaction, protein- protein interaction and gene-gene interaction. A number of
neurological research paper also analyse the relationship among damaged part. By
computational method especially machine learning technique we can show such classifications.
In this paper we used OASIS fMRI dataset affected with Alzheimer’s disease and normal
patient’s dataset. After proper processing the fMRI data we use the processed data to form
classifier models using SVM (Support Vector Machine), KNN (K- nearest neighbour) & Naïve
Bayes. We also compare the accuracy of our proposed method with existing methods. In future,
we will other combinations of methods for better accuracy.

In order to treat and analyze real datasets, fuzzy association rules have been proposed. Several
algorithms have been introduced to extract these rules. However, these algorithms suffer from
the problems of utility, redundancy and large number of extracted fuzzy association rules. The
expert will then be confronted with this huge amount of fuzzy association rules. The task of
validation becomes fastidious. In order to solve these problems, we propose a new validation
method. Our method is based on three steps. (i) We extract a generic base of non redundant
fuzzy association rules by applying EFAR-PN algorithm based on fuzzy formal concept analysis.
(ii) we categorize extracted rules into groups and (iii) we evaluate the relevance of these rules
using structural equation model.
PROBABILITY BASED CLUSTER EXPANSION OVERSAMPLING TECHNIQUE FOR IMBALANCED DATAcscpconf
In many applications of data mining, class imbalance is noticed when examples in one class are
overrepresented. Traditional classifiers result in poor accuracy of the minority class due to the
class imbalance. Further, the presence of within class imbalance where classes are composed of
multiple sub-concepts with different number of examples also affect the performance of
classifier. In this paper, we propose an oversampling technique that handles between class and
within class imbalance simultaneously and also takes into consideration the generalization
ability in data space. The proposed method is based on two steps- performing Model Based
Clustering with respect to classes to identify the sub-concepts; and then computing the
separating hyperplane based on equal posterior probability between the classes. The proposed
method is tested on 10 publicly available data sets and the result shows that the proposed
method is statistically superior to other existing oversampling methods.
CHARACTER AND IMAGE RECOGNITION FOR DATA CATALOGING IN ECOLOGICAL RESEARCHcscpconf
Data collection is an essential, but manpower intensive procedure in ecological research. An
algorithm was developed by the author which incorporated two important computer vision
techniques to automate data cataloging for butterfly measurements. Optical Character
Recognition is used for character recognition and Contour Detection is used for imageprocessing.
Proper pre-processing is first done on the images to improve accuracy. Although
there are limitations to Tesseract’s detection of certain fonts, overall, it can successfully identify
words of basic fonts. Contour detection is an advanced technique that can be utilized to
measure an image. Shapes and mathematical calculations are crucial in determining the precise
location of the points on which to draw the body and forewing lines of the butterfly. Overall,
92% accuracy were achieved by the program for the set of butterflies measured.

The anonymity of social networks makes it attractive for hate speech to mask their criminal
activities online posing a challenge to the world and in particular Ethiopia. With this everincreasing
volume of social media data, hate speech identification becomes a challenge in
aggravating conflict between citizens of nations. The high rate of production, has become
difficult to collect, store and analyze such big data using traditional detection methods. This
paper proposed the application of apache spark in hate speech detection to reduce the
challenges. Authors developed an apache spark based model to classify Amharic Facebook
posts and comments into hate and not hate. Authors employed Random forest and Naïve Bayes
for learning and Word2Vec and TF-IDF for feature selection. Tested by 10-fold crossvalidation,
the model based on word2vec embedding performed best with 79.83%accuracy. The
proposed method achieve a promising result with unique feature of spark for big data.
GENERAL REGRESSION NEURAL NETWORK BASED POS TAGGING FOR NEPALI TEXTcscpconf
This article presents Part of Speech tagging for Nepali text using General Regression Neural
Network (GRNN). The corpus is divided into two parts viz. training and testing. The network is
trained and validated on both training and testing data. It is observed that 96.13% words are
correctly being tagged on training set whereas 74.38% words are tagged correctly on testing
data set using GRNN. The result is compared with the traditional Viterbi algorithm based on
Hidden Markov Model. Viterbi algorithm yields 97.2% and 40% classification accuracies on
training and testing data sets respectively. GRNN based POS Tagger is more consistent than the
traditional Viterbi decoding technique.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

their web learning environment. Then we have proposed construction of the scaffolding at
runtime for a cluster of students with similar attribute values. Finally we have proposed an
architecture that adopts and use this scaffolding for aiding the students in a personalized problem
solving in e-Learning.
2. RELATED WORK
Existing instructional websites record learner’s portfolios but they only collect the browsing time
and homepage information, without directly provide instructors with more data for further
analyzing learner behaviours. In an earlier work by Lee.Cet al. the investigation process of the
learners’ portfolio left in the e-learning environment is shown and it adopts “data mining”
techniques to establish for each cluster of learners the most adaptive learning path pattern, which
can provide a “scaffolding” to guide each cluster of learners[3].In another work an advanced Petri
Net model to analyze the workflow of a web-based multiple participant’s virtual environment has
been proposed. Scaffolding is created where behaviours of students are supervised by an
intelligent control system, which is programmed by the instructor under a generic interface. The
interface is built based on virtual reality and real-time communication technologies[4]. Use of the
scaffolding techniques these days are also adopted in mobile-learning environments. The
portability and immediate communication properties of mobile devicesindicate the pedagogical
potential of mobile devices. In a work learners’ behaviours on a website are recorded as learning
portfolios and analyzed for behavioural diagnosis or instructional planning. A student model is
then built according to the analytical results of learning portfolios and a concept map of the
learning domain [5].
3. TRACKING USER BEHAVIOUR IN ASYNCHRONOUS e-LEARNING
A rich and detailed user profile plays a key role during the learning activities. Adaptive e-learning
takes into account the profile, past behavior, preferences and needs of involved users, as well as
the characteristics of the learning environment that they exploit for these activities. In fact, it
should handle fairly rich and detailed profiles of users to play a key role in the success of the web
based learning programs. The learning portfolios of a learner are collected and stored in learning
database for further analysis to draw a nature of a learner. The following strategies are used for
this portfolio collection process:
A. User log:
Most contemporary e-Learning systems have the capability to collect, organize and report data on
learners’ activities. These may include data on time spent on a learning activity, when it was
started and completed, and number of attempts at an assessment item. It may be total time spent
on a particular course or average time spent on a particular page etc. In the e-learning system, a
learner simultaneously performs multiple learning activities. For example, learners may browse
the learning materials, while simultaneously searching for more information on a particular term.
So to correctly calculate the reading time, the system subtracts the time that a learner spends in
interaction, searching and downloading from the total time spent in the system. While a learner is
browsing a learning material, he may leave his browser on the same section and attend other
learning-related activities on different topics. Such behavior tends to be associated with a very
long reading time. Similarly, learners may browse a section find that they are not interested and
skip to other sections. In this case the reading time is very short. To prevent the reading times
from being recorded in the above cases, we propose to setlower and upper bounds on the reading

time. Restated, if a reading time is less than the lower bound or exceeds the upper bound, it is not
recorded in the system.
B. Learner’s preference:
The learner’s searching history within the portal and also on the web is recorded. The searching
style like searching of a particular key word repeated time implies that the place of interest is of
highest order. The navigation techniques that whether the learner skips some modules and wants
the portfolio to remember that indicates the competence level on that topic is high. Similarly
‘favourite’s’ list maintained by the learner can play a vital role to understand the learner’s desire
to use and apply the learning.
C. Learner’s interaction record:
There are three important actors in a formal e-learning context students, instructors, and content.
A runtime learning environment sees the interaction among the three actors and these information
are very important to the construction of the scaffolding.
a) Learner to Content interaction:
Today’s learning content in e-learning world is very much interactive with the user with
association of different multimedia data, animations, instructions, simulations, micro worlds, and
presentation creation tools. So, the nature of the request of content by learner, submission of
presentation and frequencies of file download and upload by a student help to draw the graph of
performance and confidence level of a learner.
b) Learner to Learner interaction:
The student-peer collaboration enabled the students to link up different ideas and to share
knowledge and it induced motivation that contributed to positive learning outcomes.
Collaborative and cooperative learning asynchronously through mail, messaging, blogging or
synchronously by chatting or video conferencing are available in modern adaptive e-learning
systems. The nature of asking questions, sharing answers and frequencies of doing these can help
to analyze a particular learner’s characteristic and interest of study.

c) Learner to Instructor interaction:
In e-learning environment one student can interact with the instructor via mail or blog. The nature
of question (e.g if it is subjective or objective), the frequencies of asking question and the
relevancy of it with the subject may judge a learner’s intellect. This type of interactions can be
arranged in a synchronous way by chatting, audio or video conferencing. In order to make this
more personalized sufficient information about the students’ learning behavior should be
provided to the Instructor.
D. Learning Path:
The adaptive release of content within e-learning courses enables the learner to experience an
individualized learning path. It also allows the facilitator to create rules for delivering content to
the learner upon specific tasks which leads to the achievement of the course learning objectives. It
can be implemented with prompts and cues that encourage learners to think about their learning
process and to utilize appropriate learning strategies, in essence developing the learners’ meta
cognitive skills. To improve learning performance, a “scaffolding learning paths,” is designed [3]
which provide different learning patterns based on the learning abilities of different learners, and
give learners an adaptive navigational learning map which describes the connected paths of time
sequence of a learner’s visit of the lessons of the teaching materials. Scaffolding learning theory
proposes that instructors should construct different learning scaffolding stands according to level
of ability development and learning progress of different learners [2]
E. Learner’s assessment:
In web-based e-learning system integrated assistance and assessment tools are required that offers
instruction to students while providing a detailed evaluation of their abilities by theinstructors [6].
Many studies have demonstrated that the records of student learning paths and learning
performance in the e-Learning system can be provided as a reference for instructors to evaluate
the learning accomplishments of students and diagnose their learning difficulties, hence, through
“learning portfolio monitoring” in the “intelligent e-learning system,” the investigation records
the learning path data of learners[3]. The assessment of student’s performance enables the
construction of a rich student profile that records student progress and characteristics.

4.DESIGNING THE SCAFFOLDING
Our proposed framework built the scaffolding by investigating the learner’s information as
described in section 3. As shown in figure 2 different activities are tracked from the asynchronous

web based learning environment. The students with similar track record and behaviour are
clustered together by application of data mining tools on the obtained data.

The scaffolding is created only at runtime after the Learner-Instructor interactive session is
initiated. It holds the necessary information about the learner or group of learners about their
subject competence, base- knowledge, weakness, preference etc. The instructor may reframe her
answer or illustration that suits the learner most.
5. USE OF SCAFFOLDING IN SYNCHRONOUS SYSTEM
Next we propose to use of this scaffolding for the synchronous interaction session between
learners and instructors. This can have its best result when it is used as tutorial session which is
supplemented to the self regulated learning by the learner. We propose to use different data
mining tools to classify the learners. For numerical data available from average time spent on
aweb page, number of uploads and downloads, assessment score etc. the Euclidian distance based
clustering algorithms like k-medoid, DBSCAN etc. can be used, where as for non numeric data
like searching, navigation path, blog data categorical clustering algorithms
likeSTIRR,ROCK,CACTUS are better suited. The objective of the clustering is to find out students
with similar comprehensive level and expertise which is very helpful for the instructors in
conducting live tutorial sessions for doubt clearance and question answering.
