DESCRIPTION OF FIRST ESCAPE OF GREATER AMBERJACK (Seriola Dumerili, Risso 1810) IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA BY MEANS OF GENETICS, GEOMETRIC MORPHOMETRICS AND SOCIAL MEDIA.
This document describes the first reported escape of greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili) in the Mediterranean Sea. Researchers used genetics, geometric morphometrics, and social media records to characterize the escaped fish. Genetic analysis found that the escaped fish did not have a genetic structure consistent with wild populations, suggesting visual identification of the escaped fish may have misidentified some as wild. The morphometric analysis also distinguished farmed and wild morphotypes. This multidisciplinary study provides evidence of aquaculture escapes impacting the Mediterranean marine environment.
