Describe 3 hardware independent assembler features.
Solution
The hardware independent assembler features are:
1. Symbol defining statements:
2. Expressions: Expressions can be classified into two types, absolute expressions or relative
expressions.
MAXLEN EQU BUFEND-BUFFER. The BUFEND and BUFFER both are relative terms
indicating addresses within the program. he expression BUFEND-BUFFER represents an
absolute value. When relative terms are matched with reverse signs, the dependency on the
starting address of the program is canceled and the result is an absolute value. Multiplication or
division operations results in errors if used in relative expressions.
3. Control Sections and Program Linking: The control sections are used for subroutines or other
logical sub-divisions of a program. The programmer can gather, load and control each of the
control sections individually. The instruction in one control section refer to the instructions or the
data in another section. So that the control sections must linked together by some means.
