The requirements to achieve these important benefits are discussed, and the concept that PM is a core competency required of all executives is presented
Programs and projects are of great importance to all banking, insurance, industry, governmental and other organizations.
They are the means by which companies, especially when delivering complex, advanced products or systems to their customers, earn a major share of their profit.
In all these various organizations there are a growing recognition that although many projects apparently exist within the organization they are often poorly understood and frequently not properly managed.
More organizations are now recognizing these facts, and more are approaching the management of these growth steps using proven project management principles and practices.
Essentially all enterprises realize their long range growth strategies through the creation, planning, and execution of unique efforts that we call projects.
In order for any enterprise to properly, effectively, and prudently manage their future growth, modern project management principles and practices must be applied.
Thus the application of these practices, methods, systems and tools is of great importance to every enterprise today.
The project management discipline is not anymore a separate management profession but rather it is a core competency that all executives must have in this Internet Age. It should be a way of life for all professionals.
The art and science of project management will continue to evolve, in particular with more complete project life cycle management, with closer linkage to the organization’s strategic management, with more specialization in life cycle models and individual certification.

Why Organizations Need Enterprise Project Management SoftwareOrangescrum
An enterprise project management software increases the trust factor between the organization and keeps everyone engaged right from the CXOs to the interns.
This document discusses modern project management trends, including:
1. Projects are increasingly global with dispersed teams across different time zones and cultures, challenging project managers. New communication tools help facilitate collaboration.
2. Projects are becoming smaller in size due to cloud computing and shadow IT. This increases the total number of projects to manage while integrating diverse technologies.
3. Cloud-based project management tools provide a centralized place for tracking progress, enabling collaboration between dispersed teams. This facilitates management of distributed global projects.
4. Outsourcing project management services is increasing but brings challenges around responsibilities and commercial negotiations that sometimes require the client to intervene.
Emerging trends in project management - 1) Increased Emphasis on Project Management Soft Skills - I've certainly noticed this in recruiting for Project Managers over the last few years.
The document discusses technology alignment across different departments at non-profit organizations. It examines what alignment looks like in early and late stages for executive leadership, finance, fundraising, operations, programs, and communications. In early stages, departments work more independently and technology is an afterthought. In later stages, there is cross-functional collaboration, technology is considered earlier in planning, and IT participates to help meet organizational goals.
DesignOps aims to increase efficiencies and impact across organizations. To measure this, KPIs that evaluate performance against strategic goals are used. However, defining the right KPIs is complex as value is contextual and relational. A systemic, hypothesis-driven approach is needed to understand how improving one area, like designer time, can impact other parts of the system by creating a ripple of efficiencies. For example, reducing recruiting time for user tests could increase designer quality and speed of delivery, benefiting both design teams and businesses. The key is focusing KPIs on the biggest pains to trigger broader impacts, not isolating parts which overlooks relationships between elements.

FROM PMO TO STRATEGIC PMO - AN INDIRECT APPROACHPhilippe Husser
Managing effectively a portfolio of strategic initiatives is a key success factor. However too often we, PMO, are considered as paper tigers. Truth to be told, too often we, PMO, also lack the required skills.
However, there is an approach which allows PMO to acquire skills and demonstrate benefits. This is the indirect approach. The indirect approach is the only one working in large complex organizations.
This presentation focuses on three points:
• First we will explore three key domains of knowledge I explored myself with great benefits
• Second we will share seven snapshots of what I experienced in terms of indirect approach as a PMO at Michelin
• Third I will share with you three takeaways for PMOs to learn and apply
The three domains to explore are:
• Complexity, and a few key characteristics of complex adaptive systems
• Indirectness, and two samples of direct and indirect approaches
• Strategy, and differences in two key schools of strategic thought
The indirect approach will then be walked-through seven real life snapshots:
• Program Cause and Approach
• Local Relays
• First Benefits
• Single Version of Truth
• Tipping Point
• Strategic Gap
• Strategic Initiatives
From this journey, we will share three key takeways to learn and apply by PMO:
• First, learn and apply Complex Adaptive Systems and Chaos Theory
• Second, learn and apply Dual-Mode Strategies
• Third, learn and apply Human Dynamics and how to develop an Appealing WIIFM Cause and an Alliance you Lead from Behind

We explored the power of visioning in creating effective UC&C strategies and getting beyond TCO to look at new measures of success.
Cisco vs. Microsoft: The Great Debate: We explored the latest Microsoft and Cisco UC&C solutions and provided the decision making framework on when organizations should choose a particular solution and the pros and cons for each.
The Art of the Possible – Using real life examples, we wrapped up the session discussing how Softchoice is helping clients augment their existing network, voice, presence, IM and video investments to deliver widely adopted collaboration experiences that drive enhanced productivity and new business opportunities.
ASAE Technology Conference and UNTECH10 case study. Tools and techniques I use to create a healthy project environment and effective governance for the membership systems platform of the Massachusetts Medical Society.
The document summarizes a presentation about capturing value through expanded cross-functional agile teams. It discusses how agile development teams can be optimized by having individual engineers communicate effectively, engineering managers help teams progress collaboratively, and using tools to aid development. It also discusses how agile organizations of the future will have cross-functional product, project, and requirements managers leading teams to better satisfy customers.
We could possibly all think about projects which have “failed” – probably process got worse instead of better, perhaps they were terminated due to cost overruns, or maybe techniques were released with essential mistakes.
This document discusses the importance of collaboration in delivering successful SharePoint implementations. It argues that focusing only on technology is not sufficient and that collaboration with executives, business users, and across teams is essential. Successful SharePoint delivery requires gaining executive buy-in, properly planning projects, engaging users, assessing organizational readiness, and iteratively releasing solutions.

This study examined student perceptions of relevance-increasing strategies used by college instructors. The researchers conducted interviews with students to identify strategies instructors use to demonstrate the relevance of course material. Student responses were grouped into five categories: outside course relevance, methods and activities relevance, teaching styles relevance, inside course relevance, and no relevance. The results supported some previously suggested strategies but also indicated that relevance may be more of an outcome of teacher behaviors than a predictor of student motivation.

Demystifying SharePoint Governance and User AdoptionWes Preston
Governance and User Adoption continue to be hot topics in the SharePoint community and are still adapting as the community matures. So, what do these buzzwords mean to you and your organization? In this session we'll explain what they mean, why they shouldn't be something to fear or over-think, and how to approach these topics as a part of your SharePoint planning, implementations and ongoing management.
This webinar discussed trends in SharePoint implementations after the initial phase. It found that SharePoint is improving collaboration for most organizations by centralizing information. However, search customizations and usage monitoring are not major focuses in early phases. Common challenges include ensuring central administration, user utilization, participation incentives, and measuring payback. Successful initiatives link SharePoint to business needs, look for other uses as a platform, and focus on change management and user experience.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
