CONTROL DEPARTMENT
QA/QC deals with the all test of minerals which
are using in construction at the site i.e. soil,
aggregate, cement, sand etc and check their
quality also because quality is major pillar of
strength and serviceability after which site
means highway construction comes in which
different layers of the crust spreaded over each
other so that distribution of load should be
uniform , this part comes under Highway
department

MOISTURE CONTENT AND DENSITY OF SOIL:
This test is conducted on the soil to calculate its
moisture content and dry density, so that, the
control on settlement of layer can be done

This test is done for getting the failure of soil in
condition arises in which water get stagnated for long
period of time and settlement occurs in the layer.

GRAIN SIZE ANALYSIS:
This test is done to found the percentage of gravel, sand ,
silt and clay in soil sample. Gravel (75mm - 4.75mm),
sand (4.75mm – 0.075mm ) and silt & clay (0.075mm
passing)
PROCEDURE:
1. Take soil sample and wash it to remove dust
2. Sieve it with 0.075mm sieve
3. Dry the sand and weight it W gm
4. Do sieve analysis

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE CUBES:
This test is conducted to check the compressive strength of
concrete cube after 3rd day, 7th day and 28th day of casting
PROCEDURE:
1. Cast the cube of 150mm*150mm*150mm
dimension mould by using fresh concrete which
is mixed according to design.
2. Remove the cubes from mould after 24 hours

and put it in water tank for curing
3. Take out the cubes after 3rd day , 7th day and
28th day of casting
4. Put the cube immediately in the machine and
applied the load , record the loadat failure ,L

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Highway department deals with all the
construction related to the road that can be
embankment and crust construction. Before
cutting or excavating the land , the most
important part is to know the reduced level of
land where we have to start working.
Page 21
Page 22
Reduced level:
Step 1: Height of instrument (H.I.)= back sight(B.S.)+ temporary
bench mark (T.B.M.)
Step 2: Reduced level (R.L.) = H.I. – I.S.
Page 23
EMBANKMENT:
After acquaintance of land , process of clearing and grubbing
is done i.e. cutting of tree and root removal from land. Then,
the process of embankment filling by soil works in which we
calculate reduced level of land at 8 points and then, average
it, A. Let crust thickness be C , then , embankment thickness,
E comes to be
E=A-C
After calculating E, the numbers of soil layer, N in embankment is calculated by
taking each layer of 200 mm thickness such that each layer can be compacted
tightly as
N=E/200
Page 24
CRUST:

Page 27
After settling the layer by roller (fig.17), there is test conducted
under the supervision of costumer for calculating:
1.Wet density
2.Moisture content
3.Degree of compaction

STRUCTURE DEPARTMENT
This department deals with the construction
of all the structures related to road i.e.
1.Flyover
2.Railway over bridges

PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Planning department plays a major role in controlling all the
activities which are related to the project. This can be usage
of material, machines, manpower each and every thing related
to project always pass through this department. The five
major things which I had learned in it :
1.Drawings
2.Daily Progress Report
3.Bar bending Schedule
4.Strip Chart
1. Drawings: All the drawings of pavements,
culverts, pedestal under pass, vehicular under pass and
flyover.
Page 34
2. Daily progress report: This report
consist an excel chart which tells about
all the daily work to be completed and
how much work completed. This chart
forwards to heads so that they can easily
examine the project progress easily.
3. Bar bending schedule: This consists of
the information about bars shape , size
and dimensions that are used in
construction.
4. Strip chart: This chart is representation
of road on an excel file which tell us
about the section progress of road
Page 35
CONCLUSION
As day by day number traffic volume is
increasing ,so , this road is widening which is very
necessary because it decrease the rush and
accidental chances on road. Also from all the staff
of L&T ltd. I learned that doing work with proper
dedication, responsibility and honesty makes the
person successful.
