DEFORESTATION
DEFINITION
BY MICHELE LUPI
CLIMATE CHANGE
• The climate is influenced by
natural activity like: volcanic
eruptions, changing solar
activity, orbital
variations, climate
oscillations, and natural
intake and emission of
carbon ,CO2, by animal and
plant respiration, volcanic
activity, and oceanatmosphere exchange.

DEFORESTATION DEFINTION
• So what is deforestation? Deforestation
is mankind cutting and removing trees
from woodlands or forests in order to
use the land for commercial property
or maybe logging reasons but
whatever purpose it may serve it is
usually for a profit. GREED. The almighty
dollar. Deforestation has been around
for millions of years since the caveman
days. The cavemen built fires that
required wood. Wood was also used
for shelter and eventually paper and
other products.

CARBON DIOXIDE
• Carbon is a natural greenhouse
gas but ever since the Industrial
Revolution there has been way too
much carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. Humans are now
considered a non natural influence
to the control of climate. We burn
too many fossil fuels and use them
for transportation, deforestation is
another phenomenon caused by
humans.

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
• There is evidence that some 4000 years
ago people would bald a forest by
setting it ablaze and then use the
barren land for agricultural reasons. It
seems that maybe at that time the side
effects weren't significant because
there wasn't a big population 4000
years ago. The Industrial Revolution
caused the rate of deforestation to rise
dramatically. Timber was in great
demand for shipbuilding so the
business of logging boomed. Also
houses needed wood for construction.

GREED
• When these people are cutting down
trees they never replace them
somewhere else. This idea wouldn't make
the slaying of our forests any better, but if
they did replace the trees they cut down
then deforestation wouldn't be as much
of an issue. Now we are suffering the
consequences of deforestation and so is
our beautiful Earth. It is difficult to put a
stop to deforestation and greed is only
growing worse. People also fail to realize
that when you burn the forests you are
releasing carbon into the atmosphere. So
DOUBLE WHAMMY. Kill trees that absorb
carbon and while you burn them release
even more into the air.

OXYGEN
• Mankind truly believes that the
woodlands and forests are there to
cater to them but they assume another
role. A very important one. Trees are
essential for us. We would never be
able to live without them. We humans
and all kinds of others species need
oxygen to breathe and develop and
trees are the giver of this oxygen, but
that is not all trees do. Did you realize
that trees absorb carbon dioxide.? The
same carbon dioxide that is causing
the planet to be in such disarray.

NATURE
• Let me teach you something.
Nature is a complex system made
up of little eco-systems. In most
places trees, plants, the earth,
water, and animals exist together in
a delicate balance. Humans come
in and disrupt this balance and it's
not only the trees that are affected
it is the entire planet and the
ultimate outcome is eventual
human extinction.

SIX WAY DEFORESTATION AFFECTS
MOTHER EARTH
• Ecosystems are destroyed or altered, natural
habitats are destroyed, take deer as an
example. Why do you think there are so many
deer running around in suburban areas?
.....because we are destroying their natural
habitats by cutting down trees.
• Biodiversity is affected. Biodiversity is specific
animals and plant life in certain regions.
Deforestation forces some plant life to die and
certain species of animals to go elsewhere.
• Erosion occurs when trees are cleared
because tree roots hold soil together and the
trees leaves shade the soil from excess sun.
With no shade it dries out and washed away by
wind and rain.

SIX WAY DEFORESTATION AFFECTS
MOTHER EARTH
• Earth's Climate is affected. Since there
are less trees to absorb carbon dioxide it
goes into the atmosphere. This has
caused a greenhouse effect, a natural
phenomenon that causes the earth's
core temperature to rise. Melting ice
caps, cause flooding. Eventually they will
melt so much that the entire earth will be
covered in water.
• Trees are nature's air purifier, the trees
absorbs toxins and pollutants and release
air or oxygen.
• Erosion eventually causes the terrains to
change.
