Sarah has been a member of the NBS team for 14 years. During this time she has been involved in the development, sales and marketing of products including NBS Building, NBS Create, NBS Scheduler and NBS Contract Administrator. More recently her role has extended to include new additions to the NBS portfolio – NBS BIM Toolkit and Uniclass 2015, which complete the BIM Level 2 suite of tools for the UK Government’s BIM Task Group. As one of 3 Product Managers at NBS, Sarah’s role is to ensure that the future development of NBS products respond to the needs of those operating in the construction industry.

Too many people are killed and injured in our industry each year, despite the best efforts of all parties concerned. While many are utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) for efficiency gains and improved profit margins, perhaps fewer are considering health and safety. Even in times of economic downturn, construction is still one of the largest industry sectors. It is also one of the most dangerous and hazardous, and, despite the rate of injuries over the last 20 years being significantly reduced, construction remains a high-risk industry in which to work. Although it is not new, BIM has seen a huge uptake in interest in recent years. This is partly as a result of government mandates, but mainly due to great leaps in technology. The incorporation of health and safety into BIM is neither something which is the exclusive preserve of the “technology generation,” nor is it something which is beyond designers. It is, as modern parlance would have it, a no-brainer.

Part 1 – Building Your Project Plan
You and your project team must develop a new project (product or service oriented) for your organization. Company Background
Tell the story (who, what, when, where, how) of the company or organization for which this project is being done.
· Who founded this company? Who are its leaders?
· What does this company make or do? What is its target market? What is its financial performance?
· When was the company founded? Where was/is it located?
· How does the company operate? How effective is the company in its industry? How are its competitors placed in the market?
If using a company website, be sure to cite the source!Current Process
What is the current process or existing scenario for accomplishing the company’s goals? In other words, how does the company conduct business? If, for example, it is a construction business building new homes, what would be the process that encompasses the company’s procedure from advertising through getting customers, doing the project and closing out the project deliverable. This current process might be something like:
1) Receive customer specifications
2) Design preliminary floor plan and elevation
3) Send preliminary documents to customer
4) Receive and execute customer changes
5) Create bid for customer contract
6) Run bid through technical and legal departments
7) Ship bid to customer

Your project must fit within the framework of the company’s business. In other words, if the company builds single family residences, your project would not be for an office building. It must be related to a specific type of single family home/townhouse. Project Overview
The project overview is a report on the project undertaking and a discussion of the general situation management finds itself in. This provides important context for the project management team to use in determining methods, approaches, and timeframes, as well as a scope.
For example, if building a new home, you should state whether it will have one or two stories, three or four bedrooms, and any other rooms that are to be included. There may be important details regarding the lot, area of town, and other issues such as landscaping. Be as detailed as possible, since this will assist the instructor in understanding and ultimately approving your project based on his/her belief that you have a viable project topic for a team of 3-4 persons. Objectives describe concrete outcomes that a project will meet so as to be deemed a success. Goals need to be described as specifically as necessary-but no more specifically than that. PROJECT PROPOSAL PRESENTATION
You are a company offering project-related services to a potential client. The client expresses an interest in your company and requests a proposal from you. The idea of the proposal is based on your choice. Your objective is to convince the client getting the deal.
This activity will take action in two parts: proposal and planning.
The first assignment is embracing the first one, i.e. proposal submitted to outsider client. Hence, assignment 2 is covering the second part, i.e. planning submitted to the company’s top management.
TASK:
As a professional company provide a proposal that includes the following elements:
1. Project Overview: What is the project? What is the aim/objective? Briefly.
2. Company profile: Who you are? Products/services? Company name? Company’s logo, mission and values? What do you offer special to your customers?
3. Project description and features. And how is going to address the client’s issue?

6. Price: how much the client would pay for your service

1. Using the District4WarehouseMove WBS.xls provided, create a Microsoft project plan for the District 4 Warehouse Move project. Use the PDF document, Project Plan Check – District4Move, to check your work to be sure you have created your starting project plan correctly. Microsoft Project is required for this task. Project Planning – Developing the Project Plan and Determining Critical Path
1. Using the District4WarehouseMove WBS.xls provided, create a Microsoft project plan for the District 4 Warehouse Move project. Use the PDF document, Project Plan Check – District4Move, to check your work to be sure you have created your starting project plan correctly. Microsoft Project is required for this task. Please follow directions on MGT402_OpenProj_Directions.docx to download Microsoft Project.
Note: you will need to insert a column to include your WBS codes, then you will need to sequence the tasks to show tasks by work package. It may help to review the Microsoft tutorial, Sequencing tasks in a project: http://www.project-open.org/en/project_tutorial
2. Based upon the details in the WBS and the project case, determine which tasks need to be completed first and which tasks are dependent upon other tasks to be completed prior to starting. Using this information identify predecessors in your project plan’s predecessor column. Complete the predecessor column by entering the line number of tasks that must be completed in order for each task to start. This will create your project timeline.

3. Using the View Network Diagram functionality within MS Project, determine the critical path for this project. In a MS Word document, list the activities that are on the critical path. Considering the risks identified in the risk table below, identify which risks would be most likely to increase your project timeline. Justify your responses.
