The document discusses trends in the construction industry and building information modeling (BIM). It notes that the world's urban population has grown dramatically from 746 million in 1950 to over 4 billion currently, and is projected to reach 6.3 billion by 2050. This urbanization will require building accommodation for around 1.2 billion new urban dwellers over the next 15 years. The UK government has a strategy to implement BIM across the construction industry by 2016 in order to reduce costs, emissions, and time needed for projects while improving exports. National BIM reports show growing adoption of BIM in the UK, with over 80% of construction firms now using it.

John Roberts, Laing O'Rourke
For decades Construction has doggedly resisted many of the changes that 'Manufacturing' has successfully adopted. Lack of an integrated supply chain, poor levels of investment in staff and construction's dirty-boots image are all parts of the problem. Can the adoption of modularisation alone change all this, or is more needed? Laing O'Rourke are well on the journey from constructor to manufacturer and assembler. John Roberts will describe some of the people, cultural and organisational issues that lie between us and maximising modularisation's impact.

The global modular construction market was valued at US$ 87.3 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach US$ 130.2 billion by 2028; growing at a CAGR of 5.9% during the forecast period from 2021 to 2028. Modular construction is a type of off- site construction of structural units which are assembled on the site to complete the construction of a building. It produces less waste and less site disturbances compared to traditional construction. Modular construction is used for permanent and temporary services particularly for military, hotels, educational institutes like classrooms and student residences and healthcare facilities. Furthermore, dissembling and shifting of these buildings can be done without any wastage of time and it can be renovated for new modular construction reducing the raw material needed and energy requirement for construction of new setup.
Modular Construction and 3D printed houses are becoming popular in GCC markets, but the real opportunity lies in Egypt. This presentation is useful for building material suppliers and contractors thinking about positioning themselves to sell effectively.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.
Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

22. So, in the 15 years between 2015 and 2030
1.2 billion people will need urban accommodation.
This works out as:
500 people per building 2.2M buildings
250 people per building 4.4M buildings
100 people per building 11M buildings
10 people per building 110M buildings
5 people per building 220M buildings
Urbanisation - 2030
27. BIM and Trends in the Construction Industry
• The world’s urban population has grown from 746m in 1950 to 4bn in 2015
• It’s projected to grow by 2.5bn by 2050, to 6.3bn in 2050 with nearly 90% of
the increase concentrated in Asia and Africa
• India, China and Nigeria are expected to account for 37% of the projected
growth
• India alone is projected to add 404m urban dwellers, China 292m and Nigeria
212m
• As the world continues to urbanize, sustainable development challenges will
be concentrated in cities, particularly in the lower-middle-income countries
where the pace of urbanization is fastest
• Integrated policies are needed to improve the lives of both urban and rural
dwellers

Buildings globally account for:
• 40 % of Primary energy use (50 % if we include embedded energy in
manufacturing the materials used to construct them)
• 30-40 % of Final energy use (the energy delivered after loss in production
and distribution of energy)
• In EU, 36 % of GHG emission comes from buildings

32. "This Government's four year
strategy for BIM implementation will
change the dynamics and behaviours
of the construction supply chain,
unlocking new, more efficient and
collaborative ways of working. This
whole sector adoption of BIM will put
us at the vanguard of a new digital
construction era and position the UK
to become the world leaders in BIM.“
