Differences between collectivistic and Individualistic Societies
Collectivistic and individualistic societies are two different dimensions which cast different effects on the individuals who are living in these different societies. Hofstede was the first researcher who had discriminated between these two types of cultures and had defined them fully. According to him, the individualistic cultures are those cultures in which the ties between different individuals are quite loose. Expectations from such individuals are that they are responsible for taking care of themselves and their immediate family if necessary. On the other hand, collectivistic societies are those societies in which there is more integration and cohesiveness. They need to look after each others in larger groups and people keep o doing it lifetime with questioning the loyalty of other individuals (Uicol. Kim). Still, there are contradictions in the literature about which of the cultural system is more appropriate (Lynch).
Research shows that people in individualistic society have personal motivations in life whereas; people from collectivistic societies show a shared sense of experience while achieving their goals (Banani and Vryonis). Usually the literature calls the individualism an American style of leading the life where every individual is responsible for what he/she does (Kallen). In addition to that, it has been said that there may be lesser chances of responsibility of motherhood in individualistic societies as compared to collectivistic societies. There are various differences in the individuals who are living in these two different types of societies that is; people from collectivistic society consider them responsible for what is going on in their groups and their success and failure are associated with success and failure of their related group. On the other hand, the feeling of success and failure in people of individualistic societies are related to their personal pursuits contradictorily (U. Kim).
Not only, both of the cultures types are different in their attributes but they are also different when they are seeking help. The matter becomes more complex when an individual needs to seek out help for some psychological issue. It has been observed that people from Asian countries are more reluctant when it comes to seeking help for their psychological problems. The reason is that a stigma is attached to psychological problems in collectivistic societies where the individual is integrated into the larger group and may contaminate the larger art of the society. On the other hand, no such stigmatization is attached to psychological problems in collectivistic societies where people are on their own (Papadopoulos). Another study conducted in Korea also revealed that people from collectivistic societies are more defending when they are stigmatized for the.

Right now the community faces a struggle of a different kind ... One of survival in the face of the worst economic crisis in living memory.
Unemployment is rife in New Brighton, crime and violence is on the rise and prospects are looking bleak.
Since the economic downturn began in 2008, many workers have been laid off. Many are parents of Cowan learners. Their financial capacity has come under pressure and many can no longer afford to pay school fees. Cowan has come under massive financial pressure.
Consequently Cowan pupils suffer through inferior education … the SGB does not have the funding necessary to pay for the services of desperately needed additional temporary teachers. Several teachers are sacrificing their time to voluntarily assist the learners without realistic expectation of remuneration.
Down the years Cowan has excelled in the areas of art and culture, but the deteriorating educational environment has had a detrimental impact on academic performance, which is reflected in a deteriorating pass-rate.
Although Cowan has been very successful in attracting funding for infrastructural projects … donors draw the line when it comes to salaries and wages which they see as a government responsibility.
A Department of Education representative made it very plain during the recent Strategic Planning process that Cowan should NOT expect the Department to bail them out ... because THAT is highly unlikely to happen.
The onus is thus on the Cowan Community: If you want a decent education, take responsibility for funding it yourselves.
It is a challenge which several learners have already shown a willingness to accept and confront.
It is from these humble beginnings that a GREAT idea was born. An idea set to transform a community.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Infrastructure Challenges in Scaling RAG with Custom AI models
Building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems with open-source and custom AI models is a complex task. This talk explores the challenges in productionizing RAG systems, including retrieval performance, response synthesis, and evaluation. We’ll discuss how to leverage open-source models like text embeddings, language models, and custom fine-tuned models to enhance RAG performance. È stata un membro attivo dei progetti Fedora e openSUSE e ha co-fondato l'Associazione LibreItalia dove è stata coinvolta in diversi eventi, migrazioni e formazione relativi a LibreOffice. In precedenza ha lavorato a migrazioni e corsi di formazione su LibreOffice per diverse amministrazioni pubbliche e privati. Da gennaio 2020 lavora in SUSE come Software Release Engineer per Uyuni e SUSE Manager e quando non segue la sua passione per i computer e per Geeko coltiva la sua curiosità per l'astronomia (da cui deriva il suo nickname deneb_alpha).

Defining ubuntu
- 1. DEFINING “UBUNTU” In 2005 I developed a fascination for UBUNTU. Somehow this traditional African philosophy seemed to me to have a truer ring than our conventional models. My research exposed me to a philosophy fundamentally out of tune with contemporary Western thinking. This was about WE … not ME. Its an approach that sets out to build and maintain a true sense of community through compassion, reciprocity, dignity, harmony, and humanity. Here is what I uncovered … (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.

- 3. UBUNTU … AND BEING “HUMAN” Through UBUNTU we affirm our humanity when we acknowledge the humanity of others. Through our interaction with others we discover our own human qualities. Through mutualsupport and a positive outlook we overcome hardship and misery and promote the well-being of the individual, the community and ultimately of society at large. - 4. UBUNTU … THE COLLABORATION PRINCIPLE … UBUNTU encourages participation and extolls the virtues of building consensus and a common vision which all participants accept and buy into … a sound foundation for COLLABORATION (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 5. UBUNTU AND THE INDIVIDUAL … UBUNTU asks us to think of the individual not as a solitary, self-sufficient entity who exists independent of the rest of society ... but rather as individual human beings in relation to the rest of Creation. (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 6. UBUNTU AND RELATIONSHIPS … • UBUNTU considers our interconnectedness, our common humanity, our shared knowledge and wisdom. • According to UBUNTU, relationships are fluid and change with time, as do the characters of the individuals concerned. Thus each individual in effect has a host of personalities corresponding to the multiplicity of relationships in which the individual is involved. (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 7. UBUNTU AND CAPITALISM … The Cartesian conception of individuality does not take cognisance of relationships … and instead exaggerates the solitary aspects of human existence while largely ignoring the relationship aspects. (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 8. UBUNTU AND SOCIALISM … Collectivism makes the same mistake, only on a larger scale. For the collectivist, society is nothing but a collection of separately existing, detached individuals (Dirk, 1998). (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 9. UBUNTU … THE THIRD PATH … UBUNTU treads a third path that is neither collectivist (socialist/communist) nor individualist (capitalist). Instead it is COLLABORATIONIST, relying on a flexible group of people working together towards a shared goal and for their common good. (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
- 10. A NEW FOCUS … In so doing UBUNTU asks us to shift focus … • from SOLITARY … to SOLIDARITY, • from INDEPENDENCE … to INTERDEPENDENCE, • from individuality VIS-À-VIS COMMUNITY … to individuality À-LA COMMUNITY (Dirk, 1998). (C) IAN FALCON BENTLEY, 2013.
