I Am Pleased With My Leadership Style
Balance is something many leaders do not take into account when leading a group of people.
Having excellent leadership skills sometimes is not enough if a leader cannot effectively find a
balance in their leadership style. According to the assessment, my leadership style is a combination
of procedural and participative. Although these leadershipstyles are very different from one
another, they are very fitting to the type of leader that I am and that I aspire to be. A successful
leader cannot be 100% strict and controlling 24/7, this would lead to unhappy team members.
However, allowing team members to voice their opinions and regularly consulting with them can
taken be taken as a sign of weakness. Therefore, I am pleased with my leadership style results I
consider them to be well balanced and great sign of the leader I hope to become.
Assessment Results Although I am not surprised that the assessment described me as procedural
and participative, I am surprised they are classified as two separate l styles. I find the
combination of the two to be ideal, but analyzing each one separately allowed me to see the
strengths and weaknesses of each style. First, the procedural leadership style is a lot stricter and
controlling while the participative is a lot more flexible. The reason the results do not surprise me
is because I can be strict and controlling but I am also flexible and reasonable. Depending on the
situation and the person I m dealing with, I know when it is

Cgi Lesson Plan
How did my teaching/learning activities help students reach the goals for today?
My goal for my CGI lesson was to have students solve a word problem using anyone of their
math strategies that they have been working on with the master teacher. However, I also wanted
them to add an equation sentence to their strategy because that is what they will be doing in 1st
grade rather than just drawing pictures. When I was grading their work, I can say 81% of the class
met the objective for the day, which means only 5 students got the problem wrong and 22 students
showed a strategy with the correct answer. Out of the 22 students who used a math strategy and got
the right answer, only 3 didn t show an equation sentence. Grading students work made me ... Show

Each student has a magnet with their number on it and they can either move it up for good
behavior or down for bad behavior. When I am trying to get everyone to look at the TV for
instruction and students are not engaged, that is when I call on a few students to move their
magnet up, which gets the other students attention because they want their magnet moved up. I feel
this is the best strategy that I learned, however, when the master teacher does it, it works a lot better
than when I do it. Once students start to get comfortable with me, I feel that the classroom
management strategies that I use, just like the master teacher, will work a lot better.
To try and get my students under control, especially when they re talking, I have been using chants
to get them focused on the task at hand. This is something that the master teacher does often, so I
want to continue the routine. However, when she does the chants, I feel like the class responds
better, but I am hoping that students will feel comfortable with me soon. Some chants include: I
say macaroni and they say cheese or When I say voices you say? and the students say, shhh and we
continue that until everyone is

Elliott Holt s An Open Letter To Alice Munro
The letter An Open Letter to Alice Munro by Elliott Holt is a fan letter written to Alice Munro.
In the letter Holt is praising Munro s working and saying how much Munro s writing has
affected her life. Holt sees Munro as a friend and teacher. Holt also seems to feel like Munro s
work had shaped her into the person she is, which could be true because authors words do have a
large effect on readers but I think she is being extreme. I completely disagree with Holt s
emotions toward Munro. This letter was almost a thank you note to Munro, but Munro hasn t had
that effect on my life so I can not relate to that feeling of gratitude. Before I began my English
short stories class I had never read any of Alice Munro s work. The one piece from her

Organizational Leadership And Human Resource Management
Management is the art, or science of achieving goals through people. More broadly management is
the process of designing and maintaining an environment in which individuals, working together in
groups efficiently accomplish selected aims (Kontz and Weihrich 1990, p.4). Therefore
management refers to the development of bureaucracy that originates its importance from the need
for co ordination, strategic planning and directing and controlling large and complex decision
making processes. Managementis concerned in the key areas of: administration, problem solving,
organisational leadership and human resource management.
Management decision making has traditionally been based on objectives such as sales, costs,
efficiency and benefits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The evaluation can be based on the direct assessment of their top management, by means of
interviews and questionnaires. This approach, would yield highly accurate outcomes
Management that takes care and acknowledges the importance of employees skills tends to achieve
superior management outcomes. The term affect is defined as being capable of involving a person
s mind or as being capable of provoking deliberate responses in a person s mind (Umemuro, 2009).
Employees are the fundamental mechanism that drives and maintains an organisation. The study,
based on the Hawthorne effect, have indicated that employees who experience more positive
affects are more productive, and thus people are at their most productive when experiencing
positive moods (Harter, Schmidt, and Hayes 2002). Positive affect is associated with the process of
motivating employees (Fisher, 2010, Frederickson, 2003). Studies indicate that organisations with
strong employer employee engagement achieve higher profits (Harter et al., 2002, 2010).
The humans relation theory is an approach to management in which employees are not only
motivated by financial reward but also by a range of social factors such as praise, feelings of
achievement and pride in one s work. This theory was developed through research in the 1920s and
1930s at the Western Electric Company (in the Hawthorne studies). Observed by Elton Mayo and

Up Movie Analysis
In the Pixar film, Up, one of the main characters is the grandpa. His name is Mr. Fredricksen. He
is a stubborn old man and is even more stubborn/mean since his wife passed away. He decides to
live one of his life long dreams and ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the
South American wilderness. But Mr. Fredricksen s worse nightmare comes true. Another main
character, Russell, is aboard his house and is flying with him. Russell spends the rest of the
movie slowly getting to know Mr. Fredricksen peeling one layer of his stubbornness at a time.
He shows that older people may be mean/stubborn for a reason and not older adult is stubborn.

Due to the fact that he lost his wife, I would portray him to be down to earth and live for the

3.) a) The negative explicit that this movie communicates to the audience is that older men are
men and grumpy all the time. They portray Mr. Fredricksen has an unapproachable old man. b)
They make it seem that all old men are grumpy. Viewers may not want to approach older men or

Compare And Contrast Ho Chi Minh And Hitler
Two very different leaders, one liked by many and one despised by many, are Ho Chi Minh and
Adolf Hitler. Hitler s hatred of communists completely opposes Ho Chi Minh s ideas. However,
both Minh and Hitler wanted liberation and independence for their countries to be able to function
independently. They both spent their lives attempting to gain their wishes of attaining the
government they viewed as best for the countries. Minh s goal was to get Vietnamese independence
from the French and to blend Communism with Nationalism. When Minh was forced to leave
China because the nationalists wanted to get rid of left wing radicals, he decided to go to Russia,
joined the Comintern, but continued travelling back and forth. He became the leader of the
Vietnamese communist party and started a revolution with the end goal of the independence of
Indochina. Like Hitler, he was placed in prison for his wishes that went against the governmental
ideas that he hoped would result in freedom. After his time in prison, he founded the Viet Minh in
order to finally gain independence for Vietnam. The Japanese gave up Northern Vietnam, and Ho
Chi Minh established himself as president of the Democratic state of Vietnam. Hitler also
established himself as a leader and decided to take matters into his own hands. Ho Chi Minh and
the Vietcong were then able to defeat the anti communist French controlled South Vietnam in the
battle Dien Bien Phu. Minh fought for the freedom of others, did not let his power get to his head,
and was able to get the people what they wanted, and was not fighting on behalf of himself, rather
for others.
Just like Minh spent his life attempting to make his vision come true, so too did Adolf Hitler. Adolf
Hitler was a powerful and influential leader in Nazi Germany, before and during the time of the
Second World War. He fought for Germany during World War I, and then joined the Nazi s. Hitler
believed in nationalism, and did not like the way that the government of Germany was handling
the situation they were placed in after World War I. Hitler and some of his followers attempted to
overthrow the government but failed miserably. Hitler, like Minh was placed in prison, but did not
stay for his full sentencing, and

The right to die debate has been an ongoing dispute between opposing sides of this controversial
topic. The right to die is the decision made by an individual to die with dignity when they are still
capable of continuing their life with the necessary support and equipment. It is a voluntary decision
by an individual who is regarded as terminally ill to commit suicide with the refusal of any type of
life support that sustains their life. Fatally ill patients who choose to end their own life can do so
through physician prescribed medications.
Brittany Maynard who supports the right to die movement was diagnosed with brain cancer and
when her matter became intolerable and untreatable she took advantage of the death with dignity
law that was passed in Oregon. She made the trip to Oregon where her physician prescribed fatal
drugs and died quietly surrounded by family and friends. Before her death she initiated a campaign
regarding choices by the terminally ill. After the death of Brittany Maynard who became the face of

Definition The term social networking does not exclusively belong to digital technology on the
Web. On the contrary, social networks had been studied from the beginning of 20th century with the
aim to comprehend how the members of a certain community interact and which mechanism can
determine the interaction itself. Today social networking commonly refers to all those activities
that are carried out within specific online services that provides free space and software tools which

subscribing to specific services that offers specialized platforms for video, blog, photos, etc.
Applications for ITDE Social networking represents a big resource for e learning, because of its
big impact on the World Wide Web. In fact, the social networking online services implemented a
new model of knowledge management, totally based upon the worldwide voluntary contribution of
users. But to what extent is social networking powerful for distance education? It is very
interesting to point out that the average age of social networking users is strongly and quickly
decreasing; the new generations seem to be extremely familiar with this kind of approach to the
Web. According to a January 2007 survey by the Pew Internet

American Life Project, 55 percent of teens (ages 12 to 17) report having created a personal profile

Transhumanism And Open Bionics
Freddie Mercury once asked, with the voice of a whistling rocket, Who wants to live forever? [1].
This song was written for the sci fi action film Highlander (1986), the story of immortal swordsmen
fighting in New York City [2]. However, this is a work of fiction and fantasy. To truly surpass the
bounds of humanity, to live potentially live forever, we must look to science and technology.
Research into prosthetic bodies and implants provides the scaffolding for controlled evolution.
Nevertheless, such enhancements are not amoral. We must examine the implications of human
enhancement before taking our first steps into Transhumanism.

Obstacles In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The course of true love never did run smooth , Lysander had told Hermia. (1.1.136) In the play, A
Midsummer Night s Dream written by William Shakespeare, it is evident that the story is based
on love. To be more specific, love s difficult flaws. To be more specific the obstacles that love
throws at you. This essay will tell why the theme of this story is that The path of true lovenever runs
smoothly; there are always obstacles put in the way of true love. There are so many different
examples of this in the story. Hermiaand Lysander s fight to stay together, Helenaand Demetrius non
existing attachment and even Titania and Oberon s love mishap.
Firstly, Hermia and Lysander demonstrated this theory indicating the obstacles that come with true

After all, the two lovers just wanted to be together, so much. That they d risk their lives for one

this wall in the attempt to stop them from loving each other and have to fight their hardest to be
together. The two are immensely in love, yet aren t allowed to even be together. Instead, they are
faced with some strongly unbearable options.
In addition, Demetrius and Helena s love never ran the way they wanted and portrayed the
difficulties of love with their painful love encounter. Ever since Helena and Demetrius had ended
things between them due to Demetrius falling for Hermia, Helena has continued to be deeply in

Capital vs Liquidity
Liquidity, liquidity, liquidity.....
In the context of the events of the last few years just how important is liquidity to the survival and
well being of Financial Institutions? Some believe it has a greater influence on events than Capital!
Discuss. (In this assignment you need to outline the role of liquidity, issues arising when liquidity
is scarce and compare the role of liquidity to that of Capital but most importantly give your own
view on these matters)
Role of Liquidity
Liquidity can be defined as 1) the ability of a business to meet obligations without disposing of its
fixed assets or 2) the degree to which assets of a company can be easily converted into cash.

Typical assets that can be sold this way are mortgages, credit card debt, car loans or student debt.
This model was used by Northern Rock (NR) in the UK where they originated mortgages that were
then securitised. This enabled them to churn their balance sheet and issue more mortgages. There
was an inherent liquidity risk run by NR with this model as their funding was not diversified
sufficiently aligned with a failure to realise that market conditions for mortgage backed
securities (MBS) would deteriorate in stressed markets. Between issuing a mortgage and
securitising it, there will always be a time lag and to cover that NR relied on wholesale interbank
funding in the short dates (up to 3 months). This source quickly disappeared as banks pulled any
limits. The building society had then to go to their lender of last resort, the Bank of England, and
with that news hitting the headlines, ordinary depositors queued up outside branches to get their
own money out. This was the first run on a UK bank in 150 years. Eventually NR was taken over
by the state. In the context of this case it s interesting to note that the run was caused by what I
would consider over transparency . The Bank of England had a rule that obliged them to publish
the names of institutions that used its liquidity support facility and allied with a lack of satisfactory
deposit insurance their depositors took their money and ran. Maybe the rule is not so suitable in

Inequality And Oppression
The aim of this essay is to address the problem of inequality and oppression through three separate
texts, The Second Sex, The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage. The Second Sex focuses on the
woman and her role compared to man. The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage are both texts
that describe experiences about the constant racism felt by blacks. To thoroughly examine these
texts and how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each
mean. Oppression and inequality each have different definitions but they go hand in hand.
Oppression is the state of being subject to prolonged unjust treatment. While inequality is defined
as lacking equality, equality is the state of being equal especially in status,... Show more content on

Simone de Beauvoir focuses on women and their permanent otherness, women will always be
this other . They are never the subject or absolute like man is. This constant oppression of
women is different of others, women are not a minority, they are numerically almost equal to
man and yet man has still been able to create dominance over them. Man is the superior, they are
the absolute and women are the other. Oppositely, bell hooks and Patricia Williams speak on the
inequality of minorities, specifically blacks. Racism and killing rage are heavily connected.
Racism is strong and deep; it is the phantom in the room. Killing rage is a rage that is felt after
constant unjust treatment, it is a rage that is healing. This killing rage should be viewed as a
passion for freedom. I think a passion for freedom should be the forefront change. This passion for
freedom can be connected to each author. A passion for freedom can aid in changing the permanent
otherness women have faced and continue to face. Otherness is expressed through inequalities in
pay and the way women are viewed. Simone de Beauvoir s text brought up important and relevant
inequalities women and minorities face. Patricia Williams text focusing on the inequality blacks
face is relevant and important. Again a passion for freedom from oppression and inequality should
be expressed. By Patricia Williams continually

The Mexican American War Of Mexico
The Mexican American War was the war between the United States and Mexico that took place in
1846 through 1848 over disputes of land. By the time that the United States invaded Mexico,
Mexico had very few resources left to defend its nation, causing the United States to win the war
and making it possible for it to claim half of New Mexicos national territory. However, prior to the
Mexican America War, tired and exhausted Mexico was fighting a few battles of its own. The
City of Mexico was living in fear due to the destruction Comanche Indians and their allies
brought upon Mexico. During the 1830 s through 1840 s, prior to the Mexican American War,
Comanche Indians, Kiowa s, and other Indian allies invaded and attacked Mexican settlements
by using tactics such as raids. These raids claimed the lives of many Indians and Mexicans,
destroyed most of Northern Mexico s economy and slowed down Mexico s growth. The raids by
the Comanche Indians were what eventually shaped the outcome of the Mexican American war.
Indian raids by the Comanche and their allies like the Kiowa s generated many problems for
Mexico s agricultural, commercial and ranch life during the 1830 s. As a result, Mexico s ability
to defend itself declined when centralism, militarism, and American imperialism were devastating
the nation. Development on both sides of the Rio Grande in the 1830 s through the 1840 s, like
Mexico s swing to dictatorship in 1835, and the power struggle between civil and military

The Theories Of A Scientific Research
It comes in no surprise that only those theories which make accurate predictions as well as
fitting the empirical data count as being adequate and deemed good science. In relation to the
confusion associated with the unobservable mechanisms, anti realist offer the view that just
because the concepts of observable and unobservable are vague, it does not automatically mean
they are not useful or false (Okasha 2002). The dependence of observation in proposing theory
makes it hard and sometimes even impossible to come up conclusively falsify theories all the
time. Not to mention that observable and unobservable mechanisms are not that difference after
all (Okasha 2002). Correspondingly, as long as they are able to clarify and explain phenomena,
all we need to do is to choose the best available. Once we have a theory in hand, as a result, we
should have certain ability to predict the future, which is one of the key motivations for
performing scientific research. Model is one of the most popular methods adopted by researchers
to predict the future. The models of animal flocking behaviour, San Fransisco Bay model, and
climate model are just few of the models which are regularly used to represent and explain the
world in a simplified and mathematical way (Smith 2008; Weisberg 2013). Due to its countless

intellectuals; conversely there has been no major counter revolutionary movement without
intellectuals. Intellectuals have been the fathers and mothers of movements, and of course sons and

their importance to all of the various modern day revolutions and counter revolutions. However, it
is also significant to notice how this also relates to the black intellectuals and the importance of the

how this call was expressed in both CГ©saire s writings and Fanon s book Wretched of the Earth.
Meanwhile, they constantly remain engaged in public conversation and discussion. One term that

Flashbulb Memory Paper
The research article Tv or not Tv? Does the immediacy of viewing images of a momentous news
event affect the quality and stability of flashbulb memories? was authored by Evelyn G.
Schaefer, Micheal K. Halldorson, and Cheryl Dizon Reynante at the University of Winnipeg in
Canada. These researchers sought to investigate if the time in which an individual these images of
traumatic events would affect the formation of flashbulb memories (Schaefer, 2011). A flashbulb
memories as defined by Brown Kulik are, an extremely vivid and detailed recollection of one s
contextual personal circumstances on first learning of an extraordinary, shocking event either
public or personal (Schaefer, 2011) . These vivid types of memories rely on canonical categories
when being recalled, such as the activity preformed when the event took place, who told them about
the event, and where they were when it happened (Schaefer, 2011).... Show more content on

The results of the studies vary tremendously some finding that visual images increase the
preservation of the story in memory or completely misrepresenting it (Schaefer, 2011). The
improvement in flashbulb memories in these studies has been credited to the vivid way in which
these event was covered. Yet, on the other hand researchers also credit the dispassionate way the
news anchors are trained to disassociate with the topics they are reporting on as negatively
affecting flashbulb memories (Schaefer, 2011). The majority of these findings in previous research
find that media such as the news has an undesirable effect on the construction of flash bulb
memories. What was not available in these studies were how many of the people who participated

Mountains Beyond Mountains Summary
Dokte Paul. the first part of the book titled Mountains Beyond Mountains, begins when author
and journalist Tracy Kidder first met Dr. Farmer in Haiti. Kidder describes Dr. Farmer as a big
shot Boston doctor who has chosen to do humanitarian type work in Haiti even though he could
have an easy career as a lecturer back in Boston. Kidder realizes that Dr. Farmer is the atypical
doctor who would rather get to know his patients as people and cares about their healthholistically
instead of just treating the symptoms and moving on. The next year, Dr. Farmer invites Kidder
back to Haitiwith him, and Kidder begins to observe Dr. Farmer at work. Kidder notices that Dr.
Farmer s patients and co workers call him Dokte Paul; the word dokte is Haitian Creole for
doctor. Kidder also observes the unsanitary conditions of life in the Cange region of Haiti. There,
Dr. Farmer established the charity called Zamni Lasante, which is Haitian Creole for friend health.
This charity not only provides low cost or free medical care, it also builds houses and schools. Dr.
Farmer often uses his own money to help keep the charity going, and lives very modestly despite
being a successful physician. Dr. Farmer begins educating journalist Kidder about the Haitian
people, the health issues they face, and some of their superstitions. He also explains the Haitian
proverb, mountains beyond mountains, which means that for every metaphorical mountain a person

The 18th Street Gang
The 18th Street Gang is a street gang that originated around 18th Street and Union Avenue in the
Rampart District of Las Angeles during the 1960s (unitedgangs, 2017). The exact location of the
gangs origination is debated however, most academic sources accepts this general area. The people
who made up the gangwere mostly second generation Hispanic immigrants (unitedganga, 2017).
This gang was originally part of the Clanton 14 but some members wanted to separate in order to
form their own gang calling themselves the Clanton 18th Street. In addition, they also wanted to
give new immigrants the opportunity to join. Separating into their own gang allowed for
exponential growth of its members and even more so once they became more established... Show

In addition, many leaders of 18th Street Gang also report to the Mexican Mafia (InSightCrime,
2017). Authorities allege that these gangs together run drugs from Central America to the United
States. Furthermore, they also have allegedly linked up with some of Mexico s most notorious drug
trafficking networks (InSightCrime, 2017). The 18th Street Gang is like most gangs and has semi
autonomous cells, called cliques. There is a hierarchy within these cliques but it is unlike the
military with a top to bottom chain of command that spreads across to all members through North
and Central America. The gang is more decentralized and horizontal in structure. On the street, there
are Shotcallers, their Lieutenants, and the foot soldiers beneath them. Each clique generally
function independently however they will combine groups when fighting rival gangs or law
enforcement. It is unknown who is at the top of their organization.
Even today the 18th Street Gang is considered the largest gang in Los Angeles, California. It is
estimated that there are thousands of members in Los Angeles County alone and approximately 200
separate individual autonomous gangs which operate under the same label in other counties
throughout southern California. It is considered one of the most violent gangs in the United

(Ballard 25). At dawn, Joseph Hooker led approximately 8,600 men to battle. However, Hooker
stopped the infantry unit upon noticing that the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia concealed
a range of bayonets in a cornfield (Ballard 30). Thus, a fiery battle erupted along the Antietam
Creek. Soldiers beat their fellow man with rifle butts and pierced their bodies with bayonets.
Additionally, The Dunker Church at Antietam became a bloody remembrance of the battle (Ballard

sunken street, known as Bloody Lane, was emblazoned with the bloodshed of 5,600 casualties. On
the evening of September seventeenth, the battle had concluded. According to historians, the Battle
of Antietam yielded more casualties than any other day in the history of the nation s military.
Specifically, over twenty thousand casualties were accounted for. However, President Abraham
Lincoln expressed disappointment in General George B. McClellan s military performance during
the Battle of Antietam. For example, he stated that a rationalist mindset that permeated McClellan s
strategic acts led him to miss a great chance to destroy Lee s army (Lincoln 19). Furthermore,
Lincoln grew increasingly disenchanted with McLellan s militant skills as he declined to attack
General Lee along the Potomac River. On November seventh of 1862, President Lincoln dismissed
General McClellan from the Army of the Potomac and the Maryland Campaign was dissolved.
Consequently, the Battle of Antietam was strategically deemed a Union

Chemical Structure Of Hydrogen Bonds
Introduction Water ( ) has a simple molecular structure. It is composed of one oxygen atom and
two hydrogen atoms. The water properties are, adhesive forces, cohesive forces, it is a universal
solvent, also has a boiling point of 100В°C and has a freezing point of 0В°C. Adhesive forces
are the attractive forces between unlike molecules. Dipole dipole is a common type of adhesive
force. Dipole dipole forces account for water being attracted to most substances. Dipole dipole
forces are attractions and repulsion between polar moles. These are forces that attract partial
positive and negative charge. Dipole dipole interactions and dipole ionic interactions accounts for
solubility of substances in water. A special type of dipole dipole interaction is hydrogen bonds.
Cohesive forces are intermolecular forces such has those from hydrogen bonding which cause a
tendency in liquids to resist separation. Cohesive forces exist between molecules of the same
substance. Hydrogen bonds occur when hydrogen is bonded with either a nitrogen, oxygen or
fluorine. So in water hydrogen is bonds with oxygen. Hydrogen bonds accounts for water
molecules being attracted to each other. Water molecules consist of two hydrogen atoms bonded to
an oxygen atom, and its overall structure is bent, form a V shape. This is because the oxygen atom,
in addition to forming bonds with the hydrogen atoms, also carries two pairs of unshared electrons.
Due to this hydrogen bonds water has a high melting

The Actions Of President Hindenburg
The actions of president Hindenburg were the most important reason why Hitler came to power
in 1933. Discuss. From 1928 to 1932, the Nazi Party went from 12 seats in the Reichstag to 230.
This was due to a number of factors including the Wall Street crash and the depression that
followed, the weaknesses of the Weimar Constitution and Hitler s public speaking skills. The
actions of President Hindenburg and the crippling nature of Article 48 were certainly important
factors in assisting Hitler and his rise to power but perhaps not the most important. One of the
main factors in Hitler s rise to power was the Economic Depression of 1929. After the Wall Street
crash, the U.S. called in its loans to Germany thus increasing both poverty and unemployment
levels. The Weimar government did not understand how to reverse the situation so the general
public became angry and lost confidence in the relatively new democratic system. During a
depression, political trends become extremist and so the Nazis flourished; Hitler offered both a
scapegoat and himself as a strong leader to look up to. The depression gave Hitler the edge he
needed to gain ninety five[1] seats in the Reichstag and ultimately progress from the leader of a
minority party to the Dictator of the Third Reich. The Depression also drew attention to the
weaknesses of the Weimar Constitution; as poverty and unemployment increased, respect for the
democratic system drastically decreased. The German population did not want to

United States. Yet it does not come close to the resources needed for it to be a successful city,
nevertheless, a creative one. But the city wasn t always relinquished from being prosperous. Back
in the late 70 s and early 80 s, there was no better place to be in then Chicago Heights. The
factories and businesses were booming, and the unemployment rates were declining. At least that s
how Elizabeth Fushi Peterson, teacher at Bloom High School, remembers it. I spoke with her
earlier last month in regards to Richard Floridas theory on the Creative Classand the idea of a
creative city.
In his book, The Rise of The Creative Class Revisited, Richard Florida introduces the Creative
Class as individuals who engage is work to create new forms (38). Florida s Creative Class
theory is that if the creative class was aware of how powerful they are, they could impact our
economy and our culture. In accordance to how Richard Florida explains who would be in the
Creative Class theory, Mrs. Fushi Peterson belongs to it. Yet she decided to move from a creative
city to Chicago Heights, a not so creative city. This contradicts Florida s ideas of a creative
lifestyle that is attached with the membership of being a creative. Which brings me to explore how
important location to creative individuals, and how cities try to attract the Creative Class members.

parties have majorly influenced political and social changes. Abolition, child labor laws,

have their origins in third party movements (Cramm, Ness XIX). Many of these ideas were left

Third parties can breathe life into American politics, stirring the political enthusiasm of groups

characters and importantly themes. The main themes that interacts between the two worlds are
Love and Conflict which is illustrated amongst that characters as they mature along the story. To
roughly summarise both story plots, there are two equally match gangs in constant war

The Harmful Effects of No Child Left Behind
The Harmful Effects of NCLB
The No Child Left Behind act is the Bush administration s sweeping educational reform, aimed at
improving the performance of the nation s public schools by introducing accountability. Supporters
of the act claim that it will increase the performance of all school children by raising the standards
and allowing parents greater freedom in choosing the school they want their child to attend. The act
also puts in place a system of punishment for schools if their student body does not perform to the
standards set down by the National government (NCLB act). As well as increasing standards, this

She had wanted to tell him that he didn t have to take the test, and that he could do something else

teachers from catering to lower performing students; it also prevents them from challenging the
exceptional students. When a teacher is required to teach all of the children at the same level, it
prevents many kids from learning to their potential; instead forming an environment in which every
child strives for mediocrity.
Many teachers complain that all of the joy of teaching, the very reasons why they went into the

teacher from Ohio describes how she teaches words by pointing at each letter and having the
kids tell her the sound, and then asking the class as a whole what the word is (this lesson

they will be unable to cater to specific children s needs, instead pushing them all toward the same,

The Importance Of Geographic Literacy
Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what,
where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about
understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that,
While the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of
the decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geographyis
something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around
them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the
consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools
throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic
geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about
geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young
adults making them geo illiterate.
Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding
human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a
geo literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the
Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects.
They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their
interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe
Geographic Literacy would mean to be better equipped to better understand the complexity of the
world, how our decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so
large world. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily.
(Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or
Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime
that requires geo literacy. ( What is Geo Literacy? ) Whether these decisions are riding a bike or

The During The Elizabethan Era Essay
The Elizabethan theater became a central part of social life in Shakespeare s time and was a form
of entertainment that took people s minds off the daily hardships during the Elizabethan era. The
Elizabethan era is known for its English nationalism and advancements of arts during the English
Renaissance. Because of this, the Elizabethan erais considered to be the height of the English
Renaissance.
England s working class had a difficult life. Powerful lords owned and governed local districts
that were usually made up of a few hundred peasants. Nearly 95 percent of England s population
lived in these types of districts. Almost all of the labor was performed by the peasant farmers.
They farmed about one third of the land for the local lord, a portion for the local church, and the
rest for their own usage. They typically worked from sunup to sundown and their daily lives
were regulated by the different growing seasons. They rarely traveled beyond their own village.
The sick and elderly relied greatly on the kindness of their local lord for survival. The death rate
was high and life expectancy was low because of frequent outbreaks of the plague. The life of a
peasant was usually fairly stable but there was almost no chance of escaping the rut of belonging to
this class of people from one generation to the next.
Elizabethan entertainment was important to people who lived in the Elizabethan era. People used
forms of Elizabethan entertainment whenever there was something to

How Children View Apologies
Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view
apologies, specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different
considering their emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies.
Previous research on apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view
them. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children
view apologies on an emotional level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a
transgressor expressed their remorse and the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral
transgression took place.

(2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing
information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would
be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not
involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4
year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative
feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when
formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young
children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They
came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the
transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive
feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998)
found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings
for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings;
secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the
transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. Also, they believed the happy

what is right. Unlike Jim, Tom is educated, but has little sense of what is right and wrong. Huck
is more like Jim than Tom because Huck has an innate sense of what is morally right, much like
Jim. Tom, on the other hand, seems to have no sense that his actions are detrimental to others. At
the end of the story, Jim is imprisoned at the Phelp s farm. Huck wants to execute a simple and
effective plan to free Jim, who is shackled in a hut as a punishment for running away. Tom,
however, wants to make this event into a story they can remember, just like in the books he
reads. Tom proposes an elaborate plan to have a pie send to Jim s hut with a rope ladder inside.
Huck goes along with it, despite knowing that the plan is completely unnecessary and cruel to
Jim. This scene shows how Tom challenges Huck s maturity; Jim ain t got no use for a rope
ladder, He has got use for it, (Twain 239). Tom is telling Huck that they need to find a way to get
Jim a rope ladder that he can use to escape. The rope obviously not necessary because they can
simply go and get Jim themselves, but Tom says it is. They end up baking a pie and putting the
rope ladder inside of it, and having the pie delivered to Jim. When the situation with Jim is over,
Huck does not want to go back to the evils of civilization, as he prefers the freedom on

Characterization Of One Dimensional Vapex
Characterization of one dimensional VAPEX
Figure 1 shows a model of Vapex Process modeled in a vertical thin sandpack (cylindrical), which
is saturated with heavy oil. Solvent Injector and oil producer are placed at the bottom of the
sandpack. When solvent is injected, it moves upwards due to buoyancy and comes in contact with
the heavy oil and heavy oil is extracted and diluted and drained downward by gravity force.
We make these following assumptions for our 1D VAPEX Process:
1.We have 2 areas: 2 phase area and 1 phase area, and they are divided by the interface between
solvent chamber and transition zone;
2.The solvent chamber is filled with diluted oil (saturated oil) which is in liquid phase and the
gaseous solvent vapor;

The correlation between diffusion coefficient and the concentration of solvent (light hydrocarbon)
in crude oil is usually expressed via the viscosity of the heavy oilв€’solvent mixture. The
dependence of the viscosity on the solvent concentration was proposed by Lederer [3] (3) where
Shu [4] formulated the following correlation to determine the weighting factor, О», for a mixture of
heavy oil and light hydrocarbons where Оіo and Оіs are the specific gravities of the crude oil and
liquid solvent, respectively.
The diffusion coefficient is usually correlated with viscosity as

DпЂЁuпЂ©пЂЅauпЂb (4) where a and b are both constants depending on the properties of oil and
gas sample as well as the operation condition (pressure and temperature). Hayduk and and
Dasв€’Butler proposed different correlations for normal paraffin solute/solvent system and propane
/heavy oil system, respectively.
Symbol v in Eq. (2) denotes convection velocity between solvent vapour and diluted oil in the
transition zone. Darcy s law [5] is commonly used to depict the fluid flow rate in porous medium,

Heavy oilв€’solvent mixture is commonly
treated as ideal solution and its density, ПЃm, is calculated by

Moving boundary of transition zone
The transition zone is assumed bounded by two interfaces [6]: one is next to the solvent chamber
and the other is neighboring the untouched heavy oil zone. The former interface is defined as the

Medium(s) OF THIS PORTRAYAL: The mediums of this potrayal would be mosly movies, such

Every title that I have have listed involves a girl getting courted by a boy because he saw her one
time and was taken away by her beauty, an they immdiatly knew that he had to have her, without
ever speaking to her. Like in Cinderella, when she arrives at the ball, the prince instantly falls in
love with her because she is so beautiful and stands out from everyone else, and he doesn t even
know who she is. Another great example of this is Twilight. Bella has a certain scent to her that
Edward immediately falls in love with, without even knowing her. My favrotie example is the
movie Say Anything because the main character Lloyd experiences love at first sight with a girl
that is the complete opposite from him and is completely out of his league. I love that he just knew
that she was meant him.

Anthropology In Sports
My personal interest in sports is based on how my parents and other family members nurtured
me as a child and youth. My continuous interest in sports has influenced my choice of this topic
to provide me a field experience and a deeper understanding. I have always been interested and
engaged in play and sports. Volleyball is my favorite sport and was the first organised sport I
played in junior secondary school at age 12. I have been involved in several competitive sports
at from the amateur to the national/elite level. I have participated in team sports (e.g., volleyball
and soccer), field events (e.g., high jump, long jump), and track events (e.g., 100m, 200m,
400m, 800). I chose to focus on volleyball for this project because it is a sport with which I am
most comfortable and familiar. 1.4 Justification of Study The anthropology of sports is a cross
cultural sub discipline that focuses on analyses of sports related social problems (Blanchard
1995:23). Although physical anthropologists for decades have done studies on body types,
morphology, and functions, less work has been done in the area of cultural, social and
psychological settings with regards to the way individuals live and also perform (Malina 1972).
There are virtually unlimited opportunities for additional research to be done (Coakley and

How Does Tim O Brien Use Of Conceit
The Use of Conceit In The Things They Carried, conceit is used by taking two totally unrelated
ideas or symbols and making them relate to each other. Throughout the entirety of this novel,
conceit is a way for the readers to come to appreciate each character and story in a new light. The
chapters, In the Field, and The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, use this literary device to truly
paint a better picture of the over all feeling of the book. These extended metaphors help the
audience feel what the author, Tim O Brien, was feeling as he lived and wrote about his
experiences. The use of conceit in the chapters, In the Field and The Sweetheart of the Song Tra

Conceit is shown through Mary Anne s character and mindset. She could be compared to all the
soldiers in Vietnam, especially since she becomes a shell of her former self and joins the foreign
world. She was different than the other soldiers, considering that the violent atmosphere of
Vietnam didn t affect her. She seemed comfortable and entirely at home; the hostile environment
didn t seem to register. (92) Mary Anne was comfortable in the country, and the fact that a war
was going on did not affect her in the slightest way. However, this quote foreshadows what
happens to her, seeing as many soldiers would be unnerved at Vietnam, yet Mary Anne, on the
other hand, accepts her surroundings. There was no emotion in her stare, no sense of the person
behind it (105). As a result of her acceptance, Rat comments on her having ...a necklace of human
tongues (105). The end result of Mary Anne s transformation is finally shown here. It ties back to
Tim O brien s belief that the solders had, ...no sense of the person behind [their stare]. Mary Anne

Malware Detection And Machine Learning
LITERATURE REVIEW
In this chapter, we do an extensive study of malware detection and machine learning. This includes
malware types, life cycle of a malware, malware analysis and detection, strategies for malware
detection as well as machine learning and its types. MALWARE
Malware has been given different names and definitions. The word Malware is used to describe any
form of malicious code also called malcode, malicious software or programs. One common
definition of malware is the definition by McGraw and Morrisett (2000), that defines a malware
as any code added, changed, or removed from a software system in order to intentionally cause
harm or subvert the intended function of the system. Vasudevan Yerraballi (2006) also describe
malware as a generic term that encompasses viruses, trojans, spywares and other intrusive code.
According to Christodorescu et al. (2005) any program that has a malevolent objective is a
malware. Malware are generally created to compromise the confidentiality, integrity, or availability
of the data/information in a computer system or network. MALWARE TYPES
One way of ensuring that the process of analysing malware is as fast as possible is by making
informed hypotheses about the malware and its function. These hypotheses can then be tested.
Since it is evident that better hypotheses can be made upon knowing what the malware does, some
of the categories in which most malware fall into as explained by Sikorski Honig (2012) are

Installing Bamboo Flooring Essay
Usually there are no instructions in the box on installing bamboo flooring, but it is done just like
ordinary hardwood flooring. The proper floor preparation is essential before any installation. It is
important that all sub flooring be flat with a tolerance of no more than one half inch over a twelve
foot span. If the sub floor is made of wood, staples are better to use than flooringcleats. Staples
hold better and do not squeak when stepped upon. If you decide to use a glue down installation,
use the adhesive that is specified by the manufacturer. Be sure to avoid water based adhesives at all
costs.

If you care about the environment, you should be installing bamboo flooring in every room in your
house. Bamboo is a renewable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil urethane wood finish supplies a highly durable coating that allows the beauty of the
wood to shine through while minimizing discoloration due to age. A lambs wool applicator is
required for even coating, and one gallon can cover over 600 square feet. The water based
urethane finish can be used only on previously sealed surfaces. The crystal clear coating shows
off the natural wood beauty, and it dries very fast. No mixing is required, and it is very economical
to use. One gallon will cover up to 1000 square feet.
5
Polyurethane hardwood floor finishes are blends of synthetic resins that protect the surface of
wood. They are moisture resistant and available in high gloss and semi gloss as well as satin and
matte. The finish is recommended for kitchens where splashing water may be a problem. The
polyurethane finish is the most common and it turns a lovely shade of amber as it ages. Do not
shake the polyurethane container because air bubbles will appear in the final finish. Instead, stir
the container to avoid any mishaps. The coating should be applied with a brush or roller going with
the grain to avoid marking the finish.
6
The types of hardwood floor finishes determine the kind of maintenance you must use to keep the
floor new looking. Most of the time all you have to do is sweep the floor with a broom or dust
mop, and clean up spills as soon as they

Police Authority, Police Power and Police Use of Force Essay
Abstract
This paper will describe police power and police authority. I will also talk about police discretion as
for as whom gets locked up and who is allowed to go free. This paper will discuss the different use
of police force. In this paper I will also talk about police attitude, police misconduct, and physical
abuse among police officers.
Most people confuse police authority with police power. What are police authority and or police
power? Souryal, (2007), stated, That Authority is the right to control the behavior of others within
legally determined parameter. These include constitutional and professional limitations, which are
designed to resolve conflicts in an orderly fashion. Authority stems from the practitioner s ... Show

The situation becomes more difficult when the practitioners feel threatened and stonewall the truth.
They perjure themselves, destroy evidence, or cover up significant facts . It is often said that no
one is above the law not even the police, although it seems that they appear to be at times. The
United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights protect the people from police brutality. Police use
of force is defined as the use of physical restraint by a police officer when dealing with a member
of the public. Law enforcement officers are authorized to use the amount of force that is
reasonable and necessary given the circumstances. Most officers are trained in the use of force and
typically encounter numerous situations during their careers when the use of force is appropriate
for example, when making some arrests, restraining unruly combatants, or controlling a disruptive
demonstration. Force may involve hitting: holding or restraining, pushing, choking threatening
with a flashlight, baton, or chemical or pepper spray; restraining with a police dog, or
threatening with a gun and some police use of force include handcuffing , according to
Schmalleger, (2008). A greater type of police force is excessive force. According to Schmalleger,
(2008), The International Association of Chiefs of Police defines excessive force as the application

Yoruba Tribe Research Paper
To what has become one of the largest African ethnic groups in the western hemisphere, the Yoruba
tribe must give acknowledgment to the brave deities that they have come to worship. It is said in
the story that has become the upbringing of this culture that the deities whom originally lived in the
sky, looked in hope to bring life to the water and marshland below. In this attempt, these deities had
unknowingly constructed the foundation of morals and values that are represented by millions of
Yoruba people today. In the beginning stages of the Yoruba culture, one adventurous deity, Obatala,
who was not content with current state of his existence took upon his powers to create something
more and produce an advantageous world in which he could share with other beings. Obatala
reached out to Orolun, the supreme being of all, to be granted the opportunity to fulfill his dream.
Impressed with the curiosity and desire to do something valuable with his powers, Orolun agreed to
let Obatala proceed on his adventure and sent him to another deity, Orunmila, the orisha who knows
the future. Upon meeting with Orunmila, Obatala requested information on the materials that he

Diversity In Classroom Diversity
Within the core of many educational institutions, diversity is a commercial tacit. While every
institution cannot offer the same kind of diversity, the endorsement of such exists through various
definitions. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges define diversity through the various
classes: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, national origin, religion, sexual
orientation, and age ( Statement on Diversity ) Diversity within an educational institution is crucial
to developing well rounded individuals through discussions and interactions with individuals of a
different class. Applications of diversity towards an Honors community are even more crucial, as
the universal mission of an honors program is to invigorate its students to think at a higher caliber
than those outside of the program. With discussions of diversity, different perceptions, ideas, and
ways of thinking are promoted. Josh Packard, a Ph.D. holding sociology professor at the University
of Northern Colorado, finds that white students bring no substance to the classroom, as they only
discuss about the white ethnic groups. However, black students tend to discuss their experiences
and tie them into the academic content. In doing so, over a majority of white [students] specifically
referenced comments made by minority students in the classroom (150) when writing in their
reflection journals. This shows the profound impact that one comment by a black student can have

  • 2. I Am Pleased With My Leadership Style Balance is something many leaders do not take into account when leading a group of people. Having excellent leadership skills sometimes is not enough if a leader cannot effectively find a balance in their leadership style. According to the assessment, my leadership style is a combination of procedural and participative. Although these leadershipstyles are very different from one another, they are very fitting to the type of leader that I am and that I aspire to be. A successful leader cannot be 100% strict and controlling 24/7, this would lead to unhappy team members. However, allowing team members to voice their opinions and regularly consulting with them can taken be taken as a sign of weakness. Therefore, I am pleased with my leadership style results I consider them to be well balanced and great sign of the leader I hope to become. Assessment Results Although I am not surprised that the assessment described me as procedural and participative, I am surprised they are classified as two separate l styles. I find the combination of the two to be ideal, but analyzing each one separately allowed me to see the strengths and weaknesses of each style. First, the procedural leadership style is a lot stricter and controlling while the participative is a lot more flexible. The reason the results do not surprise me is because I can be strict and controlling but I am also flexible and reasonable. Depending on the situation and the person I m dealing with, I know when it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cgi Lesson Plan How did my teaching/learning activities help students reach the goals for today? My goal for my CGI lesson was to have students solve a word problem using anyone of their math strategies that they have been working on with the master teacher. However, I also wanted them to add an equation sentence to their strategy because that is what they will be doing in 1st grade rather than just drawing pictures. When I was grading their work, I can say 81% of the class met the objective for the day, which means only 5 students got the problem wrong and 22 students showed a strategy with the correct answer. Out of the 22 students who used a math strategy and got the right answer, only 3 didn t show an equation sentence. Grading students work made me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each student has a magnet with their number on it and they can either move it up for good behavior or down for bad behavior. When I am trying to get everyone to look at the TV for instruction and students are not engaged, that is when I call on a few students to move their magnet up, which gets the other students attention because they want their magnet moved up. I feel this is the best strategy that I learned, however, when the master teacher does it, it works a lot better than when I do it. Once students start to get comfortable with me, I feel that the classroom management strategies that I use, just like the master teacher, will work a lot better. To try and get my students under control, especially when they re talking, I have been using chants to get them focused on the task at hand. This is something that the master teacher does often, so I want to continue the routine. However, when she does the chants, I feel like the class responds better, but I am hoping that students will feel comfortable with me soon. Some chants include: I say macaroni and they say cheese or When I say voices you say? and the students say, shhh and we continue that until everyone is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Elliott Holt s An Open Letter To Alice Munro The letter An Open Letter to Alice Munro by Elliott Holt is a fan letter written to Alice Munro. In the letter Holt is praising Munro s working and saying how much Munro s writing has affected her life. Holt sees Munro as a friend and teacher. Holt also seems to feel like Munro s work had shaped her into the person she is, which could be true because authors words do have a large effect on readers but I think she is being extreme. I completely disagree with Holt s emotions toward Munro. This letter was almost a thank you note to Munro, but Munro hasn t had that effect on my life so I can not relate to that feeling of gratitude. The term affect is defined as being capable of involving a person s mind or as being capable of provoking deliberate responses in a person s mind (Umemuro, 2009). Employees are the fundamental mechanism that drives and maintains an organisation. The study, based on the Hawthorne effect, have indicated that employees who experience more positive affects are more productive, and thus people are at their most productive when experiencing positive moods (Harter, Schmidt, and Hayes 2002). Positive affect is associated with the process of motivating employees (Fisher, 2010, Frederickson, 2003). Studies indicate that organisations with strong employer employee engagement achieve higher profits (Harter et al., 2002, 2010). The humans relation theory is an approach to management in which employees are not only motivated by financial reward but also by a range of social factors such as praise, feelings of achievement and pride in one s work. • 7. Compare And Contrast Ho Chi Minh And Hitler Two very different leaders, one liked by many and one despised by many, are Ho Chi Minh and Adolf Hitler. Hitler s hatred of communists completely opposes Ho Chi Minh s ideas. However, both Minh and Hitler wanted liberation and independence for their countries to be able to function independently. They both spent their lives attempting to gain their wishes of attaining the government they viewed as best for the countries. Minh s goal was to get Vietnamese independence from the French and to blend Communism with Nationalism. When Minh was forced to leave China because the nationalists wanted to get rid of left wing radicals, he decided to go to Russia, joined the Comintern, but continued travelling back and forth. He became the leader of the Vietnamese communist party and started a revolution with the end goal of the independence of Indochina. Like Hitler, he was placed in prison for his wishes that went against the governmental ideas that he hoped would result in freedom. After his time in prison, he founded the Viet Minh in order to finally gain independence for Vietnam. The Japanese gave up Northern Vietnam, and Ho Chi Minh established himself as president of the Democratic state of Vietnam. Hitler also established himself as a leader and decided to take matters into his own hands. Ho Chi Minh and the Vietcong were then able to defeat the anti communist French controlled South Vietnam in the battle Dien Bien Phu. Minh fought for the freedom of others, did not let his power get to his head, and was able to get the people what they wanted, and was not fighting on behalf of himself, rather for others. Just like Minh spent his life attempting to make his vision come true, so too did Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was a powerful and influential leader in Nazi Germany, before and during the time of the Second World War. He fought for Germany during World War I, and then joined the Nazi s. Hitler believed in nationalism, and did not like the way that the government of Germany was handling the situation they were placed in after World War I. Hitler and some of his followers attempted to overthrow the government but failed miserably. Hitler, like Minh was placed in prison, but did not stay for his full sentencing, and ... The right to die is the decision made by an individual to die with dignity when they are still capable of continuing their life with the necessary support and equipment. It is a voluntary decision by an individual who is regarded as terminally ill to commit suicide with the refusal of any type of life support that sustains their life. Fatally ill patients who choose to end their own life can do so through physician prescribed medications. It is very interesting to point out that the average age of social networking users is strongly and quickly decreasing; the new generations seem to be extremely familiar with this kind of approach to the Web. Between issuing a mortgage and securitising it, there will always be a time lag and to cover that NR relied on wholesale interbank funding in the short dates (up to 3 months). This source quickly disappeared as banks pulled any limits. The building society had then to go to their lender of last resort, the Bank of England, and with that news hitting the headlines, ordinary depositors queued up outside branches to get their own money out. This was the first run on a UK bank in 150 years. Eventually NR was taken over by the state. In the context of this case it s interesting to note that the run was caused by what I would consider over transparency . The Bank of England had a rule that obliged them to publish the names of institutions that used its liquidity support facility and allied with a lack of satisfactory deposit insurance their depositors took their money and ran. Maybe the rule is not so suitable in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Inequality And Oppression The aim of this essay is to address the problem of inequality and oppression through three separate texts, The Second Sex, The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage. The Second Sex focuses on the woman and her role compared to man. The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage are both texts that describe experiences about the constant racism felt by blacks. To thoroughly examine these texts and how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each mean. Oppression and inequality each have different definitions but they go hand in hand. Oppression is the state of being subject to prolonged unjust treatment. While inequality is defined as lacking equality, equality is the state of being equal especially in status,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simone de Beauvoir focuses on women and their permanent otherness, women will always be this other . They are never the subject or absolute like man is. This constant oppression of women is different of others, women are not a minority, they are numerically almost equal to man and yet man has still been able to create dominance over them. Man is the superior, they are the absolute and women are the other. Oppositely, bell hooks and Patricia Williams speak on the inequality of minorities, specifically blacks. Racism and killing rage are heavily connected. Racism is strong and deep; it is the phantom in the room. Killing rage is a rage that is felt after constant unjust treatment, it is a rage that is healing. This killing rage should be viewed as a passion for freedom. I think a passion for freedom should be the forefront change. This passion for freedom can be connected to each author. A passion for freedom can aid in changing the permanent otherness women have faced and continue to face. Otherness is expressed through inequalities in pay and the way women are viewed. Simone de Beauvoir s text brought up important and relevant inequalities women and minorities face. Patricia Williams text focusing on the inequality blacks face is relevant and important. • 16. The Mexican American War Of Mexico The Mexican American War was the war between the United States and Mexico that took place in 1846 through 1848 over disputes of land. By the time that the United States invaded Mexico, Mexico had very few resources left to defend its nation, causing the United States to win the war and making it possible for it to claim half of New Mexicos national territory. However, prior to the Mexican America War, tired and exhausted Mexico was fighting a few battles of its own. The City of Mexico was living in fear due to the destruction Comanche Indians and their allies brought upon Mexico. During the 1830 s through 1840 s, prior to the Mexican American War, Comanche Indians, Kiowa s, and other Indian allies invaded and attacked Mexican settlements by using tactics such as raids. These raids claimed the lives of many Indians and Mexicans, destroyed most of Northern Mexico s economy and slowed down Mexico s growth. The raids by the Comanche Indians were what eventually shaped the outcome of the Mexican American war. Indian raids by the Comanche and their allies like the Kiowa s generated many problems for Mexico s agricultural, commercial and ranch life during the 1830 s. As a result, Mexico s ability to defend itself declined when centralism, militarism, and American imperialism were devastating the nation. The Theories Of A Scientific Research It comes in no surprise that only those theories which make accurate predictions as well as fitting the empirical data count as being adequate and deemed good science. In relation to the confusion associated with the unobservable mechanisms, anti realist offer the view that just because the concepts of observable and unobservable are vague, it does not automatically mean they are not useful or false (Okasha 2002). The dependence of observation in proposing theory makes it hard and sometimes even impossible to come up conclusively falsify theories all the time. Not to mention that observable and unobservable mechanisms are not that difference after all (Okasha 2002). Correspondingly, as long as they are able to clarify and explain phenomena, all we need to do is to choose the best available. Once we have a theory in hand, as a result, we should have certain ability to predict the future, which is one of the key motivations for performing scientific research. Model is one of the most popular methods adopted by researchers to predict the future. The models of animal flocking behaviour, San Fransisco Bay model, and climate model are just few of the models which are regularly used to represent and explain the world in a simplified and mathematical way (Smith 2008; Weisberg 2013). From 1928 to 1932, the Nazi Party went from 12 seats in the Reichstag to 230. This was due to a number of factors including the Wall Street crash and the depression that followed, the weaknesses of the Weimar Constitution and Hitler s public speaking skills. The actions of President Hindenburg and the crippling nature of Article 48 were certainly important factors in assisting Hitler and his rise to power but perhaps not the most important. One of the main factors in Hitler s rise to power was the Economic Depression of 1929. After the Wall Street crash, the U.S. called in its loans to Germany thus increasing both poverty and unemployment levels. The Weimar government did not understand how to reverse the situation so the general public became angry and lost confidence in the relatively new democratic system. During a depression, political trends become extremist and so the Nazis flourished; Hitler offered both a scapegoat and himself as a strong leader to look up to. The depression gave Hitler the edge he needed to gain ninety five[1] seats in the Reichstag and ultimately progress from the leader of a minority party to the Dictator of the Third Reich. For example, imagine what it would be like to spend months writing an essay that you put all your effort into this essay is your one and only shot you have to pass English. Someone takes your essay and hands it in as theirs. It is infuriating and unfair to the writer to have their ideas and effort taken without credit. • 34. The Harmful Effects of No Child Left Behind The Harmful Effects of NCLB The No Child Left Behind act is the Bush administration s sweeping educational reform, aimed at improving the performance of the nation s public schools by introducing accountability. Supporters of the act claim that it will increase the performance of all school children by raising the standards and allowing parents greater freedom in choosing the school they want their child to attend. The act also puts in place a system of punishment for schools if their student body does not perform to the standards set down by the National government (NCLB act). As well as increasing standards, this act also encourages teachers to use a curriculum which the government developed with scientifically based research (a ... She had wanted to tell him that he didn t have to take the test, and that he could do something else until the other children were done, but because of the NCLB act, she had to make him sit there for the entire test period while he cried uncontrollably. This type of overarching test not only prevents teachers from catering to lower performing students; it also prevents them from challenging the exceptional students. When a teacher is required to teach all of the children at the same level, it prevents many kids from learning to their potential; instead forming an environment in which every child strives for mediocrity. Many teachers complain that all of the joy of teaching, the very reasons why they went into the profession, have been replaced by prescripted lessons and impossible standards (Tyre 1). One teacher from Ohio describes how she teaches words by pointing at each letter and having the kids tell her the sound, and then asking the class as a whole what the word is (this lesson coming from a book of 200 pre made lessons) (Wood 13). These types of universal instruction abound through all public schools. It is clear that when teachers are required to teach this way, they will be unable to cater to specific children s needs, instead pushing them all toward the same, standardized goal. • 35. The Importance Of Geographic Literacy Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geographyis something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young adults making them geo illiterate. Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that requires geo literacy. • 36. The During The Elizabethan Era Essay The Elizabethan theater became a central part of social life in Shakespeare s time and was a form of entertainment that took people s minds off the daily hardships during the Elizabethan era. The Elizabethan era is known for its English nationalism and advancements of arts during the English Renaissance. Because of this, the Elizabethan erais considered to be the height of the English Renaissance. England s working class had a difficult life. Powerful lords owned and governed local districts that were usually made up of a few hundred peasants. Nearly 95 percent of England s population lived in these types of districts. Almost all of the labor was performed by the peasant farmers. They farmed about one third of the land for the local lord, a portion for the local church, and the rest for their own usage. They typically worked from sunup to sundown and their daily lives were regulated by the different growing seasons. They rarely traveled beyond their own village. The sick and elderly relied greatly on the kindness of their local lord for survival. The death rate was high and life expectancy was low because of frequent outbreaks of the plague. The life of a peasant was usually fairly stable but there was almost no chance of escaping the rut of belonging to this class of people from one generation to the next. • 37. How Children View Apologies Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view apologies, specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different considering their emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies. Previous research on apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view them. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a transgressor expressed their remorse and the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral transgression took place. (2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. Volleyball is my favorite sport and was the first organised sport I played in junior secondary school at age 12. This includes malware types, life cycle of a malware, malware analysis and detection, strategies for malware detection as well as machine learning and its types. MALWARE Malware has been given different names and definitions. The word Malware is used to describe any form of malicious code also called malcode, malicious software or programs. One common definition of malware is the definition by McGraw and Morrisett (2000), that defines a malware as any code added, changed, or removed from a software system in order to intentionally cause harm or subvert the intended function of the system. Vasudevan Yerraballi (2006) also describe malware as a generic term that encompasses viruses, trojans, spywares and other intrusive code. According to Christodorescu et al. (2005) any program that has a malevolent objective is a malware. Malware are generally created to compromise the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of the data/information in a computer system or network. MALWARE TYPES One way of ensuring that the process of analysing malware is as fast as possible is by making informed hypotheses about the malware and its function. These hypotheses can then be tested. Since it is evident that better hypotheses can be made upon knowing what the malware does, some of the categories in which most malware fall into as explained by Sikorski Honig (2012) are ...
