This document discusses different models of individual and organizational decision making. It describes the rational approach used for programmed decisions and bounded rationality perspective used for non-programmed decisions. For organizations, it outlines four models: the management science approach, Carnegie model, incremental decision process model, and garbage can model. The garbage can model is used for extremely organic environments characterized by problematic preferences, unclear technology, and turnover. Learning organizations combine incremental and Carnegie models or use the garbage can model. Special circumstances like high velocity environments and escalating commitment are also addressed.
