The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s
adventures. Upon their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of
her kingdom as like the rules of a game of chess, as a story and game of
advancement and promotion. Alice is like a pawn piece and can move up the
board in such a way that she too can become the queen, like as in chess the queen
can move effortlessly in whatever manner she likes. The queen perturbs Alice into
an endless run with Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and
meeting other strange characters along the way which develops her idea of the

The aviation industry is one that is consistently changing and the demand in air
travel is on the rise. With the rise in air travel, airports need to be able to handle the
traffic. But the problem is that service quality in an airport declines when the airport
has reached its design peak hour or even exceeded it. This simply means the airport
cannot handle the amount of passengers it has thus customer satisfaction decreases.
Today s air travelers have meaningful choices among airports and there is an
increasing urgency among airport marketers to differentiate themselves by meeting
the needs of customers better than the competition. While passengers perception of
airport service quality is only one of several variables (e.g. routes, scheduling, location
and prices) that contribute to overall airport attractiveness, it is nevertheless an
important variable because of the increasing importance of a customer orientation to
competitive advantage in this industry.(Fodness Murray, 2007)
Solving it would result in a more efficient airport which can reduce the amount of
delays at an airport whether is from aircraft landing or taking off or passenger traffic
within the terminal thus giving the airport an advantage over the competition by

Wings of Desire Wings of Desire is a German film by director Wim Wenders
released in 1987. The scene I want to focus on for the textual analysis is the scene
in which the angel Cassiel attempts to comfort a suicidal man, but his attempts at
comfort fail when the man jumps off of a building, causing Cassiel to descend into
a spiral of grief and anger. The scene starts with a sound bridge between a shot of
birds in flight and a shot of a man sitting on the edge of a building. The sound of the
birds mixes with non diegetic music and the sound of the man s thoughts. The
viewers can hear his thoughts, which is symbolized by his non diegetic stream of
consciousness monologue. The actor s mouth does not move, but the viewers still

Then there are a few interlude shots of Peter Falk, before the montage, which is a
maelstrom of quickly paced short shots. The short, confusing shots serve to
disorient the viewer and put them in the same headspace as Cassiel, who is
grieving, as well as to create symbolic meaning. In between the handheld shots that
progress through the city, there are shots of people that are vulnerable or hurt.
There is a shot of a woman lying on a staircase, a shot of a man on a bench,
possibly an index pointing at him being homeless, a fighting couple, a child crying
for his mother, and footage that seems to be from during the war, intercutting with
shots of a bird s wings. Bird s wings are symbolically associated with angels, and
these shots intercut with shots of war and destruction, linking the two together, the
angel is the powerless witness of the war. The viewer understands the shots in the
montage to be from the angel s point of view; he is the one who sees all that pain
and carries the burden of comfort. Jump cuts are used as well throughout the
montage, for example in the shot of the women in the staircase, further increasing the
sense of frantic confusion, and an example of poetic rather than practical language, as
