1) Dead in sins, people walk according to the world, devil, and flesh as escorts to eternal death. 2) The world, devil, and flesh are linked and take possession through lust of eye, flesh, and pride of life, leading people away from God. 3) To overcome, believers must not conform to this world and resist the devil, flesh, and ungodly lusts through faith in Christ who delivers from darkness.

1. Dead Man Walking
Text- Eph 2:1-2
1 And you hath he quickened,
who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked
according to
the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

In 1980 Lyle shuffled into the county jailwearing shackles,
a waist chain,
and cuffs around his wrists.
As the officer prepared to escort Lyle to his cell,
he called out,
"Clearthe corridor!

2. Dead man walking."
Lyle says, it was then "my gut just clenched up,"
with "The reality of what I was facing"

Men are unconscious of their death yet they pursue it.
The direction of their walk is away from God,
with their backs to him.
The downward spiral their life takes is
one act of defiled conscience
after another,
till their last breath on this earth
carries them to a more permanent
realization of God’s definition of death.
But hell is still one step away from the true manifestation of
death.
Death and hell will be cast
into the Lake of fire and this will be
the second and final death.
Those who would not choose to see
and trust the unseen God of the Bible
will be punished for eternity.

3. to their now unseen flesh that
they spent a lifetime pampering.
For [their] house inclineth unto death,
and [their] paths unto the dead. (Prov 2:18)
[Their] feet go down to death;
[their] steps take hold on hell. (Prov 5:5)
Man, by nature is a follower so the path to death is always
accompanied by a guide.
The three evil escorts to eternal death are clearly seen in our
passage.

the course of this world, the world
according to the prince of the power of the air, the Devil
the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: the flesh
These three are inextricably linked
till they take possession of
"the lust of the eye,
the lust of the flesh,
and the pride of life."
I THE WORLD.
Sinners walk "according to the course of this world”.

4. A. The world is a great counterfeit creator:
of opinion, sentiment, and habit,
thus positioning itself to become an immense obstacle to Life in
Christ Jesus.
B. The course of the world.
Every age has its own costume, conversation and
entertainment
but it is the same world,
and still carnal men live according to
the demonic dictates of
their escort of death.
C. The duty of the new creature
in Christ Jesus is, to oppose the course of this world.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will
of God.
Your life is an epistle written not with ink but actions and is
read by all who see you. The message should say “this is the
will of God”.
1Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world,
but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things
that are freely given to us of God.

5. Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify
yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for
that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in

Gal 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver
us from this present evil world, according to the will of God
and our Father:
1John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world,
even our faith.
II THE DEVIL.
This ancient enemy,
older than the world,
is the unseen controller
of this world’s trends
and enjoyments.
He is described by two names,
"the prince of the power of the air," this points to his
leadership over the fallen angels;
And ”the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience" this points to his leadership in relation to his
power as the "prince of this world."

6. The Scripture defines him as:
a murder from the beginning;
a liar and the father of liars,
a rebel,
the king of all the children of pride.
His name is expressly identified with
the sin of Adam,
the murder of Abel,
the treachery of Judas,
and with constant accusation of the brethren.
He is the accuser, tempter and corrupter.
Just as the power of Christ is to give life,
his power is to bring all manner of death.
Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of
flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the
same; that through death he might destroy him that had
the power of death, that is, the devil;
If God, who is a Spirit,
can have access to,
and influence our minds for good;
So may the Devil for evil.

7. He is said to have put "into the heart of Judas to betray
Christ". (Joh 13:2) Dead man walking
He can, like a bird, take away the good seed out of a man’s
heart; (Luk 8:12) Dead man walking
he can fill a man’s heart to lie to the Holy Spirit; (Act 5:3)

and he can dwell in a man’s heart, like a strong man in a

His actions are cloaked with “all deceivableness of
unrighteousness", (2Th 2:10) Dead man walking
He is so bent on destruction;
his every move is to destroy
any moral absolute of God.
Satan is the tempter,
but man, on his own,
takes the action to follow the escort of evil.

8. They are called "the children of disobedience,"
because they refuse to obey God, Dead man walking
and "because of these things cometh the wrath of God
upon the children of disobedience" (Eph 5:6). Dead man

The disobedient are ensnared and "carried away captive by
the devil at his will". (2Ti 2:26) Dead man walking
Believers are warned not "to give place to the devil"; (Eph
4:27) and
"to resist the devil". (Jam 4:7)
No Christian has any business becoming entangled in the devices
of, or exaltation of Death.
Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of
darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his
dear Son:
Eph 5:14-15 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that
sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give
thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as
fools, but as wise,

9. III THE FLESH.
The flesh, covers more than just sins of the body;
it includes "adultery, fornication, murder, drunkenness, and
revellings"
as well as hatred, variance, emulation, wrath, strifes,
seditions, heresies,". (Gal 5:19-20)
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh". (Joh 3:6) Dead

The lusts of the flesh culminate
in the desires of the flesh and of the mind.
They are described as "ungodly lusts", (Jude 1:18)

Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former
conversation the old man, which is corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts;

10. 2Cor 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly
beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of
the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of
God.
Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly,
in this present world;
We must learn to honor the body as the temple of the Holy
Ghost;
to make it the servant, not the master, of the soul;
to dedicate it as a vessel unto honor
sanctified and "meet for the Master’s use.
