Taoism originated in ancient Chinese spirit worship and philosophy. It has two schools - Taojiao which is the religious branch focused on gods/goddesses and pursuing immortality. Taojia is the philosophical branch founded by Laozi who authored the Tao Te Ching, which describes Tao as the natural order of the universe and advocates wu wei or non-action. Unlike Confucianism which emphasizes social order, Taoism focuses on living in harmony with Tao through nature and by taking no action against the natural flow of events.
